Great food, only need a better location
Submitted Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 3:35am [Dine in]

This is one of the more authentic Italian place and has better pizza. I go there now and then.

Food: The food is great. You can't really go wrong with anything even if you blindfold yourself and pick from the menu. Their pizzas are a must have. Ranging from appetizers to desserts, each dish satisfies me nicely.

Service: Rather mediocre. I had to wave until a waitress walks out from the bar. However, they were very polite and smiling. Although the restaurant only had 5 tables occupied at the time, the waitresses somehow found a way to gather together and chat for a good deal around the bar area. I was sitting right behind them and their backs were all facing me. I called, but they were so drawn in into their conversation, practically outside noise was non-existent. However, they were quick in apologizing and checking our order when we said we got the wrong dish.

Value: Definitely worth it. Although the appetizers were not as good of a deal. Everything else, you can add an extra $2.25 or more to upgrade to a large size.

Ambiance: It is located within a mall. It has no outside view. The decor is nothing fancy. Steel chairs and tables. The washrooms were rather odd. Even it's efficiently equipped, it was hidden in the back hallway with tons of cardboard boxes stashed opposite to it. The most you can open the door to 45 degrees.

Are you sure they have a kitchen in the back?
Submitted Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 3:16am [Dine in]

I've been to Metrotown so many times, and each time I pass by this restaurant it gives me the chills.

Food: I'm starting to wonder do they really have a kitchen in the back, if yes, do they have a real chef in there? The food was disgusting. I went there around 4 or 5 times. and they were enough. Their pasta are never al dente. Their seafood alfredo, with bell peppers is more like alfredo sauce with seafood and bell pepper GARNISH. The one dish that really help me made up my mind was the chicken strips. When it come, it was cold and rock hard. As I took a bite, it tasted like ashes! Clearly it was refried multiple times, yet it's still cold? I just can't figure it out. I didn't even finish one piece. Due to the time being, I didn't even bother to ask them to replace it.

Service: We had to wait a good half an hour before we got a table. There were no line ups outside. Furthermore, we clearly see there are tables within the place. Well we were led in, we saw tons of empty tables. What's more, she brought us to the exact same empty table we saw 30 minutes earlier! We wanted a quieter spot, but she insist that we sit where she led us. Her reason, I can't be responsible for such a big area. I was just speechless.

Value: Totally not worth the price for the food that we are getting.

Ambiance: It has a rather interesting decor, but nothing fancy. Though authentic in its own way.

I'll never go back for their so called "food" again.

An extra lightbulb wouldn't cause too much
Submitted Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 2:42am [Dine in]

Food: The food was great! Out of all the dishes we ordered, we liked 90% of them. The only one I dislike was the mussels cooked with coconut. The mussels didn't have much flavour, what's worst the "coconut" sauce tasted and looked like skim milk. However, other dishes were tasty enough to make up for it.

Service: We didn't have much a problem, but then again, we had a reservation. Got seated, ordered instantly, so the waiter had nowhere to go. Although the waiters weren't too friendly or talkative, they met the basic standards.

Ambiance: I could hardly see what I was eating!! My friend did the ordering since she was much more familiar with the menu. So I didn't even bother to read the menu since it was practically impossible to see. I would have enjoyed my food much more if I could see the full colours of them. Everything that night looked gray.

A Long Time Friend
Submitted Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 2:31am [Dine in]

I've been to this restaurant for as long as I can remember. They renovated it several years back.

Food: Always great food, we go there sometimes to celebrate birthdays, especially for the elderly. A very typical Southern Chinese cooking.

Service: If you go in big groups, make sure you place a reservation. Usually without reservations we wait for 15~20 minutes during lunch and dinner periods. Staff are usually quick and everything I expect from a good restaurant.

Ambiance: A bit loud at times when the restaurant is crowded. A great place for family. The decor was updated, and lean towards modern Chinese designs.

Are you here to order food?
Submitted Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 2:22am [Dine in]

Seeing this was a new restaurant and heard some good words about it from a few friends, I decided to give it a try.

Food: Nothing special, we ordered mostly Dim Sum, but we could get it in any good Chinese restaurants.

Service: Horrendous! We went around 2:00pm. No one was standing at the front of the restaurant greeting customers, but then again, it was almost empty at that time. We got seated and we ordered our food. All was well up to this point. We were chatting away as we wait for what we thought had processed order. Only we got interrupted by a waitress all of a sudden: "Are you guys here to order food?". I quote her exact words! We were both surprised and felt offended.
As our food arrived, we noticed one plate was not what we had ordered. So we asked the waiters, who were all standing by the cashier laughing and chatting. I waved my hand, one came over, and she was holding on to the plate that we told her wasn't ours. Instead of apologizing and checking the order, she was standing there and gave us a senseless attitude. She was saying this dish was very similar to the one we request to replace and it's not going to make any difference. (The only difference is the dish we request to replace is $10 cheaper) We were both really taken back by what she said. Then another waiter came by and asked what the matter was. He didn't do anything more than just being nosy. Finally the manage walked towards our table and pulled them both away. I was about to scold the waitress in vain. Clearly they didn't have enough training. The waiters were imprudent and don't communicate well other than their gossips. Instead of filling up with Dim Sum we got fed up by their attitude!

Ambiance: Lean towards westernize designs more. A true Chinese restaurant would have big round tables. All tables were rectangular and a bit like Hong Kong Cafe style. No outside view.

I would go there for their food, but definitely not worth it if their service continues like that.

I've been to this restaurant twice and it had successfully scared me off the second time.

Food: From their pictures in magazines and outside I thought they were pretty delicious. Boy, how wrong was I. The food quality was not to standard. The proportions were small. I ordered fish and chips the second time, thinking it couldn't go wrong. The fish came, two fillets that were together the size of my palm, but half the thickness. They coated the fish with bread crumbs!! Clearly the fish was overcooked. The fries underneath really pushed my limits. They were cold, bland and must be worst fries I've ever tried. Furthermore all the fries added up to no more than the diametre of a cup. The plating was absolutely disgusting. It felt like they just threw the fries on the plate, baked it, and then threw the fish on top of them.

For dessert I ordered a tiramisu. Another wrong move. I asked the waiter does it contain any alcohol and if yes, what kind. He stopped for a minute and went to check, he quickly came back and mumbled a name which I didn't catch. When the cake arrived, the presentation was decent, but the quality was not. I couldn't taste a trace of alcohol in it.

Service: The service was slow. We sat there talking for a good 10 minutes before someone came to take our order. At the time, they only had 4 tables. The waiter was also unreliable. I ordered fish and chips, but when the dish came, it was deep fried chicken wings with fries. I asked them, and they said that was what's written down on the order. I was about to get into an argument with them, only my friends all said they clearly heard me ordering fish and chips. It was until then the waiter apologized.

Ambiance: The decor was nothing special. Due to the location of it within the Mall, the table we sat at gave us a enclosed feeling. Since the glass walls angled and joined together. The washrooms were quite odd. It was not part of the restaurant, instead you need to walk all the way out, and back into some hallway that belongs to the mall to find a washroom. When I first opened the door, I thought I was going into a sauna. It didn't have any open windows and even the handle inside was warm!

All in all, I think their food doesn't live up to what they advertise. I'll definitely not go back.

Chain Restaurants, what do you expect?
Submitted Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 1:23am [Dine in]

Service: Staffs were generally quick, helpful, and welcoming. I've been there many times and each time their staff members seem to switch a bit.

Food: Pre-made cakes, staff only need to defroze and serve. Even though the cakes taste the same every time, I do think their staff needs more training in how to present the food. The menu's pictures never appear in reality. All other drinks and gelatos were decent, but not too special.

Ambiance: It sits right outside one of the entrances of the Guildford Mall. The only view is shoppers entering and exiting the building and a lot of cars in the parking lot. The restaurant itself is rather small.
