I am not a picky person. I am not an unreasonable person. Sui Sha Ya is nicely located on the side of Metrotown Mall so it's a nice day trip.
I ate here several times before an incident 2 months ago, an incident that pushed me over the edge.
Historically, the service is... an now read carefully... absolutely dreadful. I have been here a few times with colleagues, and it became an ongoing joke of me having to actually get up and beg for my food to come. Terribly long wait times at night when the resturant was not even busy. Plus, the servers have no sense of courtesy and restuarant etiquette. But I mean, the lunch special was about $12, and their dinners were average at whatever price it was, and they had melt in your mouth dynamite, and great karage, so you let some things slide.
But on a busy Saturday I came down, and there was a line of people, where we waited for about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes 2 couples that arrived after had gone in before us. We had not been told that our names were needed. As soon as I tried to inquire about the problem, the hostess actually began to yell at me, saying things such as "I don't care". I failed in thinking the managers would be helpful, they essentially told me "what do you want me to do about it", and one even told me "use some common sense". This all happened for something as simple as go out and ask people "Party of 2?" etc.
I have absolutely no quarrel with the position of the hostess, but honestly it is not that hard to take names and greet people coming to your restaurant.
All in all, this restaurant and its service is horrendous and you might pay for it on any given day. You might as well get a good sushi deal and box somehwere else with better service.
DO NOT GO HERE
