Chewy Filet Mignon: tasted like liver
Submitted Saturday, September 24, 2011 - 6:05pm [Dine in]

I had walked by this place and was curious for a while. Dragged my unwilling partner there, trying to get him to try new things.
Ambiance is nice. clean. welcoming.

Greeted right away and were seated VERY close to another table. Asked if we could move, not a problem.

A man took our order. I ordered filet mignon kabob. Hubby, chicken cabob. A basket of pita bread and half an onion was placed on our table. Never found out what the onion was for. It was wrapped in saran wrap.

A woman brought our food and awkardly asked if we wanted anything else? Like what? I asked. She just smiled.
Chicken was good. Filet mignon tasted like liver. It was impossible to chew. I had to spit it in my napkin.
I told female server. She smiled and said it was the marinade. I sade no, its chewy. she said sorry and walked away....leaving our plates

Male server came and asked how everything was. I told him about the kabob. He sais sorry and walked away....leaving our plates behind.

Female server returned and I told her again. She said sorry and finally took our plates.

We paid our bill by debit and she hovered behind my husband while he used the portable machine.

We wanted it to be good....but it was not....good..won't be back.

Good prices thankfully since I had to pay for a meal I didn't eat.

Our favorite location
Submitted Thursday, July 23, 2009 - 2:34pm [Dine in]

As a previous reviewer mentioned, this is a new location with nicer decor. It has a decent patio. You don't really notice Marine.
The servers are very nice and yes nice to kids too!

The taste of BC choices are always good.

Small complaint:
I do miss the drinks being IN the pirate boat and not beside it. And the chocolate coins melt under the hot food in the boat.

New Owners,Same menu
Submitted Thursday, July 23, 2009 - 2:29pm [Dine in]

I used to love going here when I lived in the hood. I stopped by the other day and there are new owners for the past 2 years. The menu is basically the same with some additions. Same soup and perogies and smoothies.
My meal was solid. The asmosphere is meh...but clean.
The couple that owns it are SO nice :)

I am always happy when I find a place my son and I can both enjoy. Lucky for me, he loves fish and the halibut and chips are yummy.
Very good deal too with the all you can eat. I love the newspaper doggy bags!
A great place for the whole family. Friendly service too. The day we went was so busy which is always a good sign.

Need to be open later!

I have been to this location twice and both times had to wait a long time to place my order. There is only one register and they could benefit from a second one!
Service was friendly and the drinks are yummy....but on a Friday night, they close at 9pm and the place was packed! One more hour on the weekend would be nice :)

Great menu, great prices. I will return~ I have been twice and really enjoyed my vegetable curry and spaghetti....not together of course!
They even made my son a grilled cheese sandwich, which he loved.
The couple that runs it are super nice.

Yummy Burger!!
Submitted Sunday, August 5, 2007 - 10:12pm [Dine in]

After a hike. we saw this cafe and needed to sit down and have some good food.
The waitress was sweet. The burgers were very good. Juicy and tasty. The salad dressing was even delicious.
The iced drinks were a bit watery though. I had an Chai Frappe and hubby had a frozen hot chocolate. They looked good. but were too icy or something.
The service was quick and friendly.
The menu on the website was not the menu we had today. Much different actually.
Not sure why..
But I would eat there again for sure!

Went based on previous review
Submitted Sunday, July 29, 2007 - 12:08am [Dine in]

I live near Choppers, so looked it up and based on the other review, I gave it a try.
The cook was the waiter the day we went and it was soooo slow.
There were only a few parties in the place, but it took about an hour to get bacon and eggs.
no mention of turkey sausage or rye toast.

Now, the food was good. Certainly worth the 5 bucks with coffee.
but not worth the wait.

I may give it another go when they actually have staff.

I have been twice recently, both on a Sunday.
A bit of a wait for a table. This place is TINY.
The food came pretty quickly considering how busy they were. The coffee was plentifull.
Clean, friendly.
I will return.

Submitted Saturday, June 30, 2007 - 4:20pm [Dine in]

This is a funny little place on Hastings near Boundary. I found it by accident, but am sure glad I did.
The sandwhiches are very good.
The coffee is very good.
The gelato is good.
The staff are very good looking.
All is good

My 4 year old likes it because of the Race Car theme.

Vera's Burger Shack15989 108th Ave, Surrey
Submitted Saturday, June 30, 2007 - 4:18pm [Dine in]

I had been wanting to try Vera's for a while and this was not the location to choose!
I went with my husband and 4 year old son. The kids meal of chicken fingers and greasy french fries was 7.00 and didn't include a drink.
My turkey burger was burnt. Hubby liked his Vera Burger.
The bathroom was filthy and the guy making burgers did not wash his hands after he finished his break outside. (DH mentioned this fact later otherwise I would have not eaten)
Ambiance....blah...unless you like wobbly chairs and SPIKE tv.
