Daikichi is the best in the area. There are a few others, which shall remain anonymous, that aren't bad - but aren't great.
The presentation of their rolls is like art - the sight of beautiful colours consisting of radish, daikon, greenery, and top ingredients make your mouth water before the plate even hits the table. Their Udon? Likely best on the shore. I have been to most of the japanese restaurants on the shore, and have tried the udon at each. The broth at Daikichi is delicious, and for the price, is loaded with meat. Even the Veggie Udon is filled with assorted mushrooms, zuchinni, brocolli, carrots, and cabage. Definitely worth your $6-9.
I will agree with my fellow review-writers with regards to the service - the attitudes can often be questionable. Due to this, we have nicknamed Daikichi "Grumpy Sushi", so that those who accompany us on our dining excursions see the service as part of the "experience". But with all honesty, once they see you a few times, it's like the ice melts away and they're pleased to serve you. Some even know your order before you even sit down - it's like "Cheers", asian style.
With regards to value, they're comparable with most other sushi places. Their lunch combos are affordable, and their rolls are definitely worth the price you pay (ranging from $3-5 for standard rolls, and $10+ for specialty rolls). With regards to ambiance, it's "solid". The place is clean, including the washrooms, and there's a tranquility to the environment which allows you to unwind for the 45 minutes you get to indulge in your food.
