Do you have access to Classico or Ronzoni? Then you may want to save the trip to Italian Kitchen.
Submitted Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 10:56am [Dine in]

Recently visited Italian Kitchen for a big office lunch. The hostess and servers were quite pleasant, except near the end when the room started filling and they were anxious to have us pay and leave. Had a bruschetta sampler to start, the bread was very nice, soft moist and fresh. The toppings (tomatoes, mushrooms, etc) were decent. Had the day’s special as my entrée, lamb shank on risotto, and it was disappointing. The portions were small but that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The red wine sauce was salty and lacked any depth of flavour. On top of the poor seasoning, the texture of the meat wasn’t great. I found the risotto with pine nuts much better. However, four swoops later that was gone. None of the other nine people had anything particular appealing or extraordinary and the general consensus was pass. I don’t know if it was the incredible amount of salt or the $30 price tag (includes 18% mandatory gratuity) but I was left feeling a little bit queasy…

Tropical Island3690 Shelbourne Street, 1, Victoria
Good food but is it worth it?

The food at tropical island is fairly good. The Hainanese chicken is very nice and so are some of the other apps and entrees. However, the portions keep getting smaller and for the price, you could cross the street to Lil Thai place and get much more value. We ordered half a hainanese chicken last time, and questioned whether we actually got half a chicken. The possibility of being served a cooked chicken which had no thigh to begin with aside, you really have to question why they'd charge you north of $11 per entree and give you 1/2 servings... Don't be surprised if you have to order 3 dishes for two people or even 4-5 if you've got three hungy ones.

Pound for Pound Champ in Town!

This is probably the best takeout place in Richmond. It's amazing that this place can stay open for so long considering how low a price they charge. I challenge any couple to eat there and order $30 worth of food without having to doggybag it or have it seep out from their pours. The food is in generally amazing, Hainan Chicken with Rice, Satays, Singapore Noodles, nan with curry, all so nice. If you dislike the ambiance as much as I do, I recommend ordering takeout. Give them 20-25 minutes and they'll have it ready, it also doesn't hurt to check whether you got the right order either... don't want to go home with fried noodles when you ordered rice... haha

Good but getting Pricey

I've been a customer for years and the food NEVER dissapoints. Bi bim bap, Jam Pong (Seafood Noodle Soup), Soft Tofu Stew, and Spicy Pork are very nice. The complementary apps are awesome as well (potatoe, kimchi, raddish, bean sprouts). The service (which really is only 1 guy) is good so long as it's not too busy, mainly because it's really only 1 guy working the floor. The only thing is the prices have gotten a little bit out of hand, even if it is the best Korean place in town. What we like to do is go there for lunch and head downstairs to Mario's Gelati for dessert, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm unbeatable combo!

Best of its kind!

Boston is the best HK-Western (can you still call it fusion?) style cuisine in town! Considering the quality and quantity of food you're getting, the value is incredible. Although, I don't recommend that you venture too far from the classics like steak or porkchop rice, cuz some of their experimental dishes should probably be kept in the lab, lol. The drinks are good (redbean icecream? yumz), the soup is never that bad either (creamy stuff or the red stuff). My personal fav. is the mixed "pa" combo, where you get porkchops and chicken chops rawr! SO "RICE" and a side (fries, spaghetti, rice etc.), side drink (cold lemon tea anyone?), and the typical app. soup (I prefer the red stuff).

Richmond Sushi is probably the best pound for pound AYCE sushi place in Town. The standard dinner menu is not bad, but if you want to splurge the Deluxe menu is REALLY "rice." Raw oysters, steak, lamb chops, tempura, sashimi and the list goes on and on. Oyster and seafood motayaki's are really nice, but I've been in a party of 4 and gone through 4-dozen raw oysters cuz they are fresh and usually very plump. The mango pudding is good, but the redbean spring rolls are even better! If you want a friendly smile and kiss-ass service go to Dedutch for some Pannekoeken. These PDA-armed waiters and waitresses serve the resturant with an efficiency unseen anywhere outside of Nike factories in China.

If you enjoy taiwanese food, @ease is the place to be. Almost as good as Lin's Taiwanese Kitchen used to be, there's plenty of space and the food is very authentic. Portions have gotten a little smaller since opening, but that's only because they used to be outrageously excessive, haha. Apps and sides are great, but I recommend pork chop, chicken leg and meatball (z chi tao) rice... mmmmmmmmm
