A Treat
Submitted Saturday, February 6, 2010 - 10:48am [Dine in]

I love this place for it's "specials of the day" format. Inexpensive sides you can put together as you feel.
One of my faourite dishes is the Unagi Don- beautifully cooked eel with a glaze that's neither too sweet nor salty as in many other places. It's wonderfully crispy along the edges and moist inside. Yumm.
When i get side dishes, I love to order the golden toasted rice cakes instead o the usual steamed rice. Great contrast of texture and wonderful "toastiness". Yummm This is the only place I know of where they're available.

Salsa Verde
Submitted Friday, February 5, 2010 - 10:31pm [Dine in]

For the best Heuvos Rancheros (called Huevos Incredibles here) in Victoria, this is the place. What really makes them is the salsa verde. The salsa is house-made and could be spicier but adds so much to this and other dishes.
Very relaxed ambience (found tables and chairs mixed with movie posters and customer generated graffiti on the walls). The XL divider tank of Koi is a favourite of many and kids in particular
Also love the various hashes.
If you don't like peirced, tattooed, staff, this isn't for you. They're usually friendly enough, and hot looking (sometimes aloof) and are sometimes overworked or gabbing behind the till.
Great if the Blue Fox is too busy.

Wonderful lunches
Submitted Friday, February 5, 2010 - 9:39pm [Dine in]

If you love absolutely fresh and want to experiment with a limited menu of many "today only" items, this is the place!
The tako don (grilled octopus on rice) is the best I've had. Slightly crispy around the edges, moist interior and with a glaze that's not too sweet or salty like so many other places.
Toasted rice cakes are a perfect compliment to the "a la carte" dishes.
I just wish it was closer to my work place.

Great breakfasts/lunch
Submitted Friday, February 5, 2010 - 8:31pm [Dine in]

Great food when I can get in or am prepared to wait.
Wonderful to be able to get a super-fresh tasting salad with sprouts, spiral-peeled carrot and beet with breakfast if I want rather than potatoes.
Everything tastes freshly prepared with the sometime exception of the "breakfast special" sausages and good coffee as well.
Possibly the best veggie burgers in town.
The Mexi-omelette will fill you for the day; amazingly full of pulled pork and refritos.
Huge portions, go hungry to fully enjoy!

Favourite local coffee supply
Submitted Friday, February 5, 2010 - 7:51pm [Dine in]

I own a store near Bean Around the World and have been very happy getting my coffee and beans there for years.
Great selection of organic, fair trade coffees and an ambience which is great for those who like "vintage" wood tables and chairs and exposed brick work. Not a lot of space/person but everyone's happy.
The owners care about their clients and staff stick around- that says a lot.
Lots of other coffee shops within a block radius and this one's ALWAYS busy.
