Great spanakopita to go
Submitted Friday, January 13, 2006 - 12:01pm [Dine in]

This is a great downtown take out place though I have occasionally had a casual breakfast while I waited. They make a great latte; the sticky cinnamon buns are excellent and fresh fruit garnishes everything! My all-time favourite here are the spanakopita with homemade yogurt tzatziki - it will convert non-lovers like my sister-in-law. The service is exceptional and the personalities colourful.

Best hot dog in town
Submitted Friday, January 13, 2006 - 11:52am [Dine in]

I have been going to this place since I was a teenager. The double dog with cheese and fries is the best thing since sliced bread. The Red Onion salad or grilled chicken Caesar are quite exceptional too depending on your mood and appetite. Thick milkshakes that come with the blender tin are served here and the seasonal pies... Best in the summer where I have seen the heap of fresh berries piled onto pastry then served a la mode of course - yum. The ambiance can only be described as the old-fashioned diner-type joint - you can sit in front of the grill and watch the cook flip burgers. It is a family run business into its 3rd or 4th generation by now.

Rainy day comfort food
Submitted Friday, January 13, 2006 - 11:42am [Dine in]

Whenever it rains and I have to meet a friend for dinner, Burgoo comes to mind. It reminds me of the home-cooked meals I have had in a rustic, back woods cabin. There are many of my favourites on the menu - soups of all kinds and stew. The salads and bread are good too adding to the homemade experience. I recommend the soup and salad combo by the fireplace.

Biggest best sandwiches in town
Submitted Friday, January 13, 2006 - 11:36am [Dine in]

I love this place! It's a hole in the wall with many pleasant surprises. The extra large, heavy, meat-filled sandwiches are the draw but the soups of the day are pretty good too. You cannot go wrong with the prices in here. Besides the deli menu, the grocery items are unique and varied - best prices on Droste chocolates in town. The owner hires kids trying to improve their skills and lives so the staff have a great attitude despite the long lunch line-ups.

Casual place for pizza & pasta
Submitted Friday, January 13, 2006 - 11:28am [Dine in]

If you feel like a casual meal with friends, this is a nice option. I recommend reservations because this place is constantly busy, even then the staff maintain the service well. My favourite here is Dragon's Breath - green curry on spaghetti. Good value and service makes up easily for the simple decor.

Trendy yet unpretentious

One of the best places to eat downtown whether dressed up or in jeans. My favourite place before the show or a game. Can walk from Yaletown. Best plate of mussels and frites in town! Love the staff who are consistently great and uniquely beautiful yet down-to-earth.
