Disgusting food - stay away!
Submitted Sunday, February 21, 2010 - 9:32pm

My wife and I have lived downtown for about 6 years. We recently moved to Coquiltam but came downtown today to find somewhere we could watch the Canada vs. USA hockey game.

We had to arrive a few hours early prior to the game. There were big line ups outside every bar you could name. Some of the staff here were very cold and really could not care less how they served you.

We started with calamari. When it arrived I was puzzled by the really dark colour. When I tasted it the calamari was greasy and tasted as if it had been around for a whole week.

Unphased, my wife ordered fish and chips and I got a buffalo burger. My burger was dry and tasted horrid. My wife's fish and chips were no better; greasy with a terrible taste.

We had to get in somewhere to watch the hockey game but we were so unfortunate to come across a place that has terrible food and service.

Real authentic South Indian food
Submitted Sunday, March 29, 2009 - 5:17pm

Hi there, this comes from someone who is Indian and has be raised on foods like this place serves. The dosas are incredible and certainly very well priced. Some people obviously do not know how they should be appearance wise and the filling. These guys serve you an authentic dosa and they come in many different varieties. The idly I had was also very good and well priced.

I would really recommend this place to anyone looking for South Indian cuisine.

My wife and I went here on our wedding anniversary, Aug 14, 2008, a warm Thursday evening and sat outside on the patio.

We booked our table a few daya in advance and was glad in a way as the place was pretty full. The menu is rather limited and the main thing is prices are far too high for the quality of food they serve.

We had their muscles to begin our meal which were OK. I had lamb rack which was OK too, though nothing special for main course. My wife had to settle for their stuffed chicken, which again, was nothing special.

At least we know that this restaurant falls below par for sure and will not be returning. We really only went here to judge this place for ourselves and concur with the majority of other writers. This place tries to be a fine dining place in part of the Lower Mainland that has little to offer in that area.

The food IS great, though remember this is really take out, not dine in!

Been here a few times now and the samosas are certainly amazing. They have a very crispy shell, not at all oily and have a centre that is unlike any other samosa I have tried elsewhere.

I have tried some other snacks from here and they too are wonderful. This place really is take out. You have to wait a bit to get your food as they prepare everything fresh, though is worth the wait.

It is a hole in the wall, though if put that aside and just go home and eat this food you will not be disappointed. This comes from someone that is East Indian also!

Superb, authentic and different Indian food!

Well first off, I am East Indian and have grown up eating this food since my mother is an awesome cook and she has her own business making Indian and other foods for supermarkets in Australia.

This place is definitely authentic and the spice blends are certainly what your palate desires, especially if you are looking for an Indian place that serves food with a difference.

My wife and I had the Halyari Chicken which is totally different blend of spices cooked in the tandoor. Magnificent is all I can say!

We also had the Goan lamb curry which was very delicious. Service was very attentive, polite and friendly. Nice ambience too. Certainly going to be one of our favourite Indian restaurants in the Lower Mainland.

My wife and I ate here first time this evening. It has a beautiful patio with a superb view. Problem is some inconsiderate people still think they smoke right next to you. Hello new by-law! Smokers: you have to be 30 feet away from entrance to patio.

We had the hot wings to start with and were awesome. Wife had pasta which was a bit overcooked. I had the quesadilla which was OK, a tad too dry I thought.

Great range of beers to wet your appetite. They have beer specials every day too. Had the Frog Nut Brown which was lovely.

I added this place to the profile as was not showing up. This place can be found among the shops in the Parkway area of Coquitlam just off Johnson going towards Westwood Plateau.

My wife and I eat here regulary as the quality of food, service and prices rock. They have great variety and nice boxes. Sushi is always fresh and we have never left unhappy in the 10 times we have bee here.

You won't be disapppointed. Lots of take out from here too.

Great food if your ambience expectations are not too high!

You have to eat from this place with an open mind. When you look from outside it is certainly very cafe and kitchen like. So, don't go in expecting it should miracously change to The Five Sails at Pan Pacific!

The quality of the food IS great. Everything is prepared fresh and they have some very unique and authetic dishes. It was not surprising to see many people come in and out getting take-outs.

Prices of the food was very reasonable. You do come out smelling like a curry pot, but hey, this is an Indian joint. We complimented the cook on her cooking and she was very pleased to hear this. I am East Indian, so trust me when I say this IS good food here.

My wife and I ate here Wednesday night last week, Feb 20. It was reasonably busy mid week and we got to know why; the food IS good!

Seems like a family run place and the service was pretty good and attentive. The quality of the food was excellent, everything fresh and yummy. We can chimichangas for main course and they really filled us up.

Will definitely make this our regular Mexican place to eat. Value for money was excellent too.

My wife and I had dinner here on Boxing Day 2007. The place itself is actually rather small though certainly had a nice, decadent atmosphere.

We opted for the 4 course lobster dinner. They gave us 1.5 lbs lobster each in different courses. The first was actually a tiny piece of lobster marinated in this delicious sauce. I believe there was soup like one for second course and the meal progressed with bigger portions, all cooked in very different ways. Each course was heaven and have certainly not had lobster served like this or taste the way it did. This course was about $65 or $70 per person though was well worth it. I think we had dessert too which was also very pleasant. You can't go wrong here, though for 2 people we paid about $220 before tip!!

My wife and I tried this place on a Wednesday evening which happens to be 'all you can eat ribs night.' You pay $26.99 for all you can eat ribs. The full rack comes with 12 good sized ribs and for $25.99 and the regular rack, 6 ribs, $19.99. Comes with beans and choice of one side. Was OK, the meat did not fall off the bone like it can at places like Dix in Yaletown. Service was OK, though I can sure see food and service being variable here.

Cafe style Malaysian food
Submitted Sunday, December 9, 2007 - 10:23pm

We got food from here the second time only a few weeks ago. First time we ate in. I have to admit the ambience is quite poor, resembling a run down cafe if anything. You have to put that behind you as the food is very reasonable and certainly worth eating. It is not on par like something with Tropica or Banana Leaf, though it is worth trying and coming back for.

It is a family run place at one of the corners in 'Eagle Ridge Mall.' You have to drive to the centre of this small shop zone to find it. The rotis here are actually yummy with a delicious sauce to come with it. The curries are OK. I personally am not a big fan of meat on bone curries and nothing really comes off bone here. We had take out a few weeks ago. If you think about it, there is no authentic Malaysian place within miles of Coquitlam. Therefore if you put the cafe style place behind you and keep an open mind, you will realize the food is OK.

A nice family pub though full of cigarette smoke!
Submitted Sunday, December 9, 2007 - 10:09pm

My wife and I wanted to have pub food and watch the hockey game on Saturday night. I created a profile for this place today. The place itself looks nice from outside and in. What perturbed us a little was walking into this pub and getting our faces into pungent layers of cigarette smoke.

The food was OK, not super. The best thing I had was the calamari. The batter was nice and crispy and portion was huge! Came with nice pita break and dip. I had ahi tuna for main which was a little too blackened! The room in which we ate was a no smoking area though it is amazing how cigarette smoke just drifted in here and impregnated the place.

My wife and I were quite ill when we got home with our clothes being smothered in cigarette smoke which we loathe. We had to shower when we got home. Simply because of the smoke in this pub, we will not go back. If you love smoke (ha!), you may like the place. I am sure you may be in minority though!

A very nice Greek restaurant!
Submitted Sunday, December 9, 2007 - 9:45pm

We ate here this evening, Dec 9, 2007, the first time using our entertainment coupon. The coupon is pretty generous, giving you $17 off. The ambience inside was warm, pleasant and certainly classy with the black and white decor.

Service was very good and attentive. The servers were also quite jovial and seemed proud of what they do which is always nice to see. We had roast lamb shank for main course and lamb chops. The main course is most generous as you receive a Greek or Caeser salad to start along with pita and tzatziki. The meat was certainly high quality and well cooked with good flavour.

Right in the Save Foods complex with easy parking right outside the restaurant.

Very authentic food
Submitted Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 7:43pm

Went to eat here the first time today as I pass it all the time in the car. The owner/cook, Rehanah, is originally from Pakistan, though has lived in Trinidad for many years. She has had this place for 10 years. Not open for dinner as she finds little customers come in after 6pm, hence open from 11am - 6pm. The meat rotis are very big & filling and range from beef, chicken and goat. There are many vegetarian varieties too. Rehanah obviously cares for her food and customers and I was very pleased with the quality and taste of the food. You can chose to have the food mild, medium or hot.

Submitted Friday, November 9, 2007 - 2:47am

My wife and I dined here Wednesday evening, Nov 7, 2007. We recently moved from downtown Vancouver to Coquitlam so finding the level of food we were used to there difficult to come by over here. We were curious about Little Thailand and decided to go in. From outside the place is very cafe looking. We were greeted by a young guy who warmly welcomed us in.

They do not have a liquor license though I was ecstatic when our server told me I could run across the road to buy beer and bring it in here. This 'feature' is very much missed here in BC and I know this is rife in Europe and Australia. We order Tom Kai Gai soup to start with and it was yummy! We had a rice dish and a Penang Curry for main. We were very, very thrilled with the food. Top quality, cooked by Thai chef too. Prices were very reasonable too. We will be going back regularly now! If you love Thai food, this place has to be tried!

A very confused restaurant
Submitted Saturday, October 20, 2007 - 8:37pm

My wife and I ate here, today, Oct 20, on a Saturday night. The decor needs some serious attention with deep, heavy red paint everywhere, making it look quite depressing.

The menu has pictures of some of their food in a rather tacky plastic folder. There is much confusion here with what is served. With a name like this, it would point to Italian cuisine, though there are Indian dishes, Greek and Italian served here. It is a family run place, though some of the ingredients are NOT fresh. We observed someone getting cream with their dessert from a pressurized can bought from some grocery store.

The food was OK, though the rice we had with our dishes was not pleasant. It had a bitter taste to it. I question whether the deep fried prawn I had for my main meal was fresh or from the freezer into the deep fryer! The service is pleasant enough though.

We saw some people that wanted to dine here, though they came in the front door took a brief look around and walked out; I applaude them for doing this. Certainly a place we will not be revisiting.

Eaten at their Vancouver location and very similar:

You have to really appreciate this type of Afro-East Indian cuisine. I am actually East Indian, though born and raised in England so have a very varied palate. This place rocks for the variety and imagination with their food. Totally delicious grilled meats and delicasies. The ugali curries and to die for and would thoroughly recommend them to you. Servings are good, service is very home-like and would most certainly recommend it to you. If you are not into spicy food and like the plain type variety, this is not for you. If you are adventurous and want a totally unique dining experience, get this stuff down into your stomach; it will settle very nicely!

One of the worst Sushi places we have been to
Submitted Saturday, October 20, 2007 - 6:03pm

Well, opinions are opinions, though having eaten at many sushi places all over the Vancouver area, this has to be on the worst! The Sui Sha Ya on Broadway is very good and we thought this place would reflect that of their Vancouver counter part. We went on a Saturday night and there were people waiting at the door.

My wife ordered chicken donburi. We rarely send food back to the kitchen and this was a dish we just had to. The meat was terrible fatty and undercooked! How dangerous is that?!! The sushi was seconds rate and the service was unattentive and lacklustre.

Coquitlam is certainly void of sushi places that meet the quality of downtown ones, though this is one place to AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
