I love Japanese food and have been to many Japanese restaurants. Huku-Ya is my favorite and I have been coming here for years. Hence the service is probably exceptional for me because the waitresses recognize me and therefore are especially helpful. In the past they have even offered me extra food items without charge.
When I first started coming here I fell in love with the udon noodles because they were so packed with flavour and a variety of fresh ingredients plus yummy tempura bits floating on the top. The rolls though I found to be average.
However in recent years they have expanded and improved on their rolls that they offer. The crispy roll with deep fried yam shavings on top and the mountain tempura rolls are fantastic.
I have brought many friends and extended family members here for dinner over the years and they have all enjoyed the service and the food. My only regret is that I don't venture out to this area as much as I use to when I would take my kids to their orthodontic appointments. If I am in the area though I definitely stop here for wonderful Japanese food and warm service.

My family and I have come to this restaurant a couple of times each year before and after it changed ownership. We did not notice a change in food quality with the change of owners. We love the curries, vegetarian meals and naan. We also tried the pakoras last time and they were very yummy.
One waitress who is not Indian is excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. We had a young waitress the last time we ate there and she was fine but a bit quiet.
I love how quiet and peaceful the restaurant is especially in comparison to the packed Anton's next door.
I will definitely come back to this place for quality Indian food.

I have been to many restaurants in the Vancouver area from casual to fine dining. I have NEVER been treated so poorly as I was when I ate at this restaurant this past week. I had come here with my husband during the summer and I enjoyed the noodles but we both found the broth was very bland and that the service was sub par. We preferred the Peaceful restaurant nearby and went there instead for good service and food.
However, I decided to give Sha Lin another try with a friend of mine whom I invited out for lunch.
We met at the restaurant at 12 pm. My friend was a few minutes earlier than me and when I arrived the restaurant was full but she said it wasn't when she had sat down.
We ordered and ate our food in 40 minutes. At that time there were some people waiting at the door so the waitress asked if we could pay our bill which I did. We waited a few minutes for the change to come back and then chatted for a few more minutes at which time it was 1245. Two male patrons who were sitting next to us were also still talking after they had paid their bill so I didn't feel that rushed. The waitress then said to us that since we had been sitting in the restaurant for TWO hours could we leave? I was furious and told her that we had only been sitting for less than an hour and that her accusation was completely false. I then told her that I would NEVER come back to this restaurant again and I recommend that to any customer out there who wants to be treated with respect and not falsely accused. She wouldn't even look at me and ignored my comments. My big regrets are that in the rush to leave the place I forgot to pick up the tip that I had left behind earlier and that my friend was subjected to such rude "service".
Don't go to this place!!!!
