King's Kitchen22425 North Ave, Maple Ridge
Still worth the money
Submitted Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - 12:12pm [Dine in]

King's Kitchen used to be my favourite place to get chinese after a long week, and while it still is, now it's more out of habit than love. I still enjoy the food, for the most part, when it's done right. More and more lately, however, I've been getting food that's been overcooked, burnt or tough. And it may just be me, but it seems to be getting greasier as well.

I have to agree that whatever they do to renovate, the setting is not in the most pleasant part of town. I don't care to park there for long periods at night, but I mostly just pick up, so that's ok. Service is usually ok, but I have had a couple of issues of being hung up on (accidently) and of having things forgotten on my order. Once I was late picking up and was given real attitude. It's my food that's going to be cold, I don't see why they should care.

Overall, the restaurant is still very solid, the food can be quite good, and the value is definitely there. If I were to compare it to other chinese places I've eaten at somewhat recently, I would still choose King's, it's just disappointing that it's not as good as it used to be.

Toyo Sushi Japanese Restaurant21768 Lougheed Highway, #5, Maple Ridge
Sushi worthy of a Downtown hotspot!

The sushi is of the highest quality. If you cut this place out of the little strip mall that it's in, and dropped it down in the heart of Kitsilano, you would never know the difference. Everything is done meticulously well, the staff and chef are super friendly, everything is clean and enjoyable and nice. I can't think of a bad thing to say!

The ratings really say it all. Ambiance and Value are great, they may not stand out from most other sushi places, but in general, I have no complaints. The food though is fantastic, the quality is so high, and everything is just so tasty! And the service is beyond reproach. Quick, efficient, respectful, kind. It is always a pleasure.

Jim's Pizza/The Look-Out Restaurant11952 224th Street, Maple Ridge
Long-time favourite, best pizza ever!!
Submitted Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - 11:55am [Dine in]

My family and I have lived in Maple Ridge, on and off, for the last forty years. After a brief stint in Langley, we moved back to Maple Ridge about 2 years ago. And I have to say, one of the things I missed most was Jim's Pizza! I've been eating this pizza since probably 1982, and it has always been the best pizza I can find.

Admittedly, we usually order for delivery, though sometimes we'll pick up, and lately we've been trying out the buffett on the weekends. I was picking up a couple of months ago and mentioned to the girl that I had been eating there since longer than she had probably been alive, but had never eaten inside the restaurant! Well that's changed, and the buffet is great. There's a good variety of food, and the price is very reasonable. The whole family enjoys it.

As I said, the food is just beyond description. You can tell when everything is made with care and thought. It's crafted, not just assembled. Service is usually very good. My one complaint is that sometimes deliveries take awhile on the weekends, but I'd rather eat at a busy restaurant than one no one wants to go to! I do wish the girls on the phone would be a bit more accurate with time estimates, but I've come to know how long it'll take, so I don't really pay much attention now!

The decor inside is pretty dated. It's definitely changed a lot since 1982, but maybe not so much in the last few years. At the same time, everything is clean, and it's a very comfortable place. My kids are more used to the slick trendy decor, but for me, I don't mind some nice wood panelling now and again!

If you haven't tried it, try it! You will not taste a better pizza in your life!!
