I had the pleasure to dine at Boneta Restaurant recently and I was blown away by the service and food. I went with my friend and we both started off with the seared scallops with shaved fois gras and truffles, and also the sardine with smoked potato and cherry tomato confit.
The scallops were perfectly cooked with just a touch of pink in the centre and was nicely accented by the truffles and shaved fois gras. The sardine was very delicous with the smoked potato and the tomato confit was amazing! It literally exploded with flavour as I bit into it.
We then had the monkfish stuffed with a large prawn with truffled mashed potatoes and port reduction sauce, and the duck with stewed cherries. The fish and duck were absolutely delicious.
For dessert, we had the stewed cherries with lager and chantilly cigars, and also the chocolate financier. The cherries were done so simply, yet so delicous! If you're a chocolate lover, the chocolate financier is super chocolatey without being too cloying. A chocolate cake, paired with this chocolate mousse, a really cold and dense chocolate cream with dulce de leche.
Service was fantastic. The sommelier was sent over to us when we couldn't decide on a wine, he basically just came over and poured us our glass of wine as if he knew what we wanted. I had a very nice sauvignon blanc and we finished off our meal with a muscato, and glass of grenache. Both excellent choices with our desserts.
Overall, servers were very professional with a very good knowledge of food and wine and very attentive. The ambiance was eclectic with a touch of whimsy (the cluster of lightbulbs, the art hanging up by the bar). Boneta is no doubt the new it place for now, until their next restaurant opens...
