Best Sushi in Surrey
Submitted Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - 2:57pm [Dine in]

By far, the best sushi I have ever had in Surrey. Their spicy rolls & spicy sashimi salad are to die for. I find myself craving their food quite often!

On top of that, their service is excellent. I believe the owner is serving tables regularly, so it seems like she puts a lot of pride into the service. Very friendly!

I definitely see myself going here for years to come!

Excellent job Maki Yaki!

Great Food & Service
Submitted Wednesday, September 30, 2009 - 4:07pm [Dine in]

I went here a few weeks ago based on the review by a friend.

Ordered the pad thai, red curry, a Thai beer & deef fried banana with mango ice cream for dessert. All of the food was great, especially the pad thai and the fried banana. (I actually am still craving the fried banana).

The service was great, as they made sure everything was okay, and re-filled our water glasses many times.

I definitely see myself eating here again or even ordering takeout!

Definitely Try the Papoosas!!!!
Submitted Monday, June 22, 2009 - 9:52am [Dine in]

Went here 2 weeks ago after hearing about the great papoosas from a friend. Honestly, I didn't even know what a papoosa was, but the way it was described... sounded delicious.

The papoosas come in a few different variety's, but we tried the pork and cheese... DELICIOUS. They take a bit of time coming out because the kitchen apparently makes them fresh and only when ordered. They came out steaming hot with Salvadorian "coleslaw" and hot sauce... I have been craving these papoosas ever since and can't wait to go back!

Also, ordered a Salvadorian beef steak, which was okay in taste... probably wouldn't order that again, especially for $12-13.

Don't go here for the atmosphere or for a fine dining experience, but definitely go again & again for the almighty papoosas!!!!

Great Indian food & Great Service
Submitted Wednesday, June 17, 2009 - 4:16pm [Dine in]

I have been to Mahek numerous times, and will continue to go here for the great food & service.

Unlike other Indian restaurants I have been to, this place has a pretty modern setup, and the owner/manager seems to be on top of things hiring nice courteous service staff.

The food is great. Never had any complaints about the food. My family and I always rely on Mahek when we're craving Indian food and it has never disappointed.

The service has always been great and attentive. Probably the best service staff out of all of the Indian restaurants I have been to, which is probably one of the main reasons it stands out when compared to other Indian restaurants.

Overall, I will definitely go to Mahek again & again!!!

Rivers Reach Pub320 6th St., New Westminster
One of the Best Pubs in Lower Mainland!
Submitted Wednesday, June 17, 2009 - 4:07pm [Dine in]

I've been to Rivers Reach dozens and dozens of times over the last 2 years, and I cannot recall a single time when I have been disappointed here.

I would say the best thing this pub has going for it is their service. This place is usually always busy (which adds to the atmosphere), yet I still have never had any noticeable issues with their service. I think the waitresses have been there for a few years considering that many of the waitresses there, I remember from when I first started going here about 2 years ago. They do not have a snotty attitude or anything.

Their food is also great pub food... Between 3-6pm weekdays, they have 2 for 1 appys, with a decent selection to chose from (try the dry ribs!). They have daily food/drink specials. All of the food is fairly priced and of good quality.

Overall, definitely no complaints here. I always go here when I'm looking for dependable food and service! I'm very greatful I discovered this place!!!

Decent Buger, but Overpriced
Submitted Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - 12:59pm [Dine in]

Went here yesterday for the first time. It's pretty much a hole in the wall place that has been around for what looks like forever. Clean place with pictures of customers over the years. Looking at the pics definitely makes you excited to try the burgers.

I ordered the bacon & cheddar burger with potato edges. Overall, the burger was pretty good, but was probably overpriced for what you get. I believe the burger was $13 with the wedges. Burger didn't stand out too much, especially at that price. Wedges were also decent tasting.

Overall, this is a good place to try, but I'm not sure if I would be willing to pay $18 (including tax & tip) again at this place for burger, wedges, a pop.

Will Definitely Go Here Again!
Submitted Monday, June 15, 2009 - 12:53pm [Dine in]

Decided to check this place out after reading a review in the Vancouver Sun.

There was only 1 other table being occupied when we walked in (Sunday afternoon). We were promptly seated & drink orders were taken.

Ordered the tacos to start, which came with about 6 mini soft tortilla shells stuffed with fresh pieces of marinated steak. Great tasting.

We both had the enchilladas for main dishes (chicken & beef). Both tasted excellent with the right amount of spices. Both came with refried beans and rice. Once again, great taste.

Had the cake for dessert. Not sure of the name, but it was the cake soaked in 3 different types of milk I believe? This was also worth the $8 price tag.

Overall, this place was great. Great food, and more importantly, excellent service. Both our waiter & the bartender made sure our glasses were full and checked on us a few times.

Overall cost : 2 imported beers, 1 appetizer, 2 main dishes, 1 dessert = $72 including tax & tip.

Would definitely go to this place again to try different dishes.

Always Always Always Love this Place!!!
Submitted Sunday, April 5, 2009 - 6:16pm [Dine in]

I have been to Stepho's numerous times over the years, and never ever leave disappointed.

I always start with the Tiroboukes (fried cheese balls) which are incredible!

Usually have the 2 skewer souvlaki or the BBQ pork, which are both always great!

Sure, you have to wait in line if you're going for dinner, but the food taste, quantity, and quality are worth it, especially when you factor in the cheap prices.

Great place to go in the summer as well. Have dinner here, then stroll down to English Bay.

Stepho's will never disappoint!

Don't Know Why Everyone Likes This Place?!
Submitted Sunday, April 5, 2009 - 6:11pm [Dine in]

I went here about 2 months ago for a birthday party.

Ordered the itlalian flatbread to start, not knowing that they gave free bread as their own appetizer. Literally, the only difference between the $8 italian flatbread and the free bread was the italian had cheap cheese, cheap olives, and tomatoes sprinkled on it. Not very good at all.

Ordered the pesto pasta. I asked for the pasta with chicken. The pasta came out with a skewer of chicken on the side. I had to ask the waitress to cut the skewer into pieces so I could spread it in the pasta. No big deal.

The flavor of the food was non-existant. Completely non-existant actually. I am a huge pesto pasta fan, and this is by far, one of the worst pesto pasta I have ever had.

I would definitely not come here for pasta if I had the choice again.

Decent Enough
Submitted Sunday, April 5, 2009 - 2:27pm [Dine in]

Went to LM yesterday afternoon for lunch. The restaurant was half full, so two of us were comfortably seated prompty towards the back of the restaurant.

The meal started with free nacho chips and salsa, which were both delicious! Nachos and salsa seemed fresh.

I ordered the chimichanga and my friend had the 2 tacos, which were both served with mexican rice and refried beans. Overall, we were both satisfied with our meals. The tacos seemed kind of plain, maybe only 1 step above Taco Time or Taco Del Mar. The chimichanga was quite good, but probably not worth the $15 price.

We both left extremely stuffed. Ps. Try the strawberry margarita... delicious!

Would definitely go here again, especially in the summer time...the ambiance in this place is great in the summer, but get ready to wait in line!!

Ok, But Go for Lunch & Save $$$
Submitted Saturday, March 28, 2009 - 7:00pm [Dine in]

Decided to try Samba last night (Friday night) after wanting to go here for a long time.

Overall, the food at this place is pretty good, but not worth the
$32 per person they charge for dinners from Friday-Sunday.

The service was great with the meat-cutters constantly coming around to serve different types of meat. The salad is buffet-style. Salad is decent, a good compliment to the meat.

I would go to this place again, but probably only for lunch, considering it's quite a bit cheaper at around $14 person.

Count Your Change Carefully!!!
Submitted Thursday, March 19, 2009 - 7:54pm [Dine in]

Overall, this is a decent place. The food is pretty good for pub food. Decent food value.

Just like other people have commented, the service is questionable. Depending on the server, your experience may be quite frustrating...

My biggest complaint about this person is... I think some servers/bartenders are trying to scam customers out of the correct amount of change.

On 2 SEPARATE occasions in the same night, 1 server & 1 bartender tried to short-change my friend & i. Both times we ordered a beer from the bar. First time, she gave change for a $10 bill even though my friend paid with a $20 bill. When my friend went back to tell the server, she promptly gave change for a $20 bill. Second time, I paid for a beer with a $10 bill, but she gave me change for a $5 bill. When I told the bartender about this she gave me the correct change, but with quite a bit of attitude.

Also, the ease to which they gave us the correct change after we told them seemed to indicate to me that they got busted and didn't want to create a scene. Maybe they thought we were drunk and wouldn't notice???

In conclusion, MAKE SURE YOU COUNT YOUR CHANGE AT THIS PLACE!!!!

Awesome Pub In Surrey!!!
Submitted Wednesday, March 18, 2009 - 12:45pm [Dine in]

I have been here a few times, and it is by far, the best pub in Surrey!

The food is great pub food with great selection. It seems that 95% of their menu items are under $10. Do not let the price trick you though. The food is of very good quality and quantity.

This place is always quite busy in the evenings, but the hostess (who I believe is the manager or owner) is always very attentive and will always try to find you a spot as soon as possible.

The service staff are great and very attentive.

The crowd is awesome. Majority of people look like they're local neighbours or work nearby. Doesn't seem like the young "gangster" crowd come to this place, which is awesome. Everyone seems to enjoy themself here and not looking for trouble.

Only Good Thing is Cheap Beer
Submitted Wednesday, March 18, 2009 - 12:34pm [Dine in]

The title says it all... the only good thing about Central City Brew Co. is the cheap pitchers of beer.

Most of the menu items are barely edible, even the burgers! Appetizers are probably the worst thing on the menu.

The only thing worse than the food is by far the service. There's only 1 good & professesional server in this entire place. The rest are all extremely young and arrogant who do not know the first thing about customer service. It seems like everyone in this place has a "I am God" because I work in a bar attitude. The staff definitely has a mentality of "if you don't like it, get out!" which is not good for the restaurant business.

Also, the crowd is somewhat questionable. I guess it has become so bad that they now employ 3-4 "bouncers" to constantly walk through the crowd on the weekends.

If they could improve their food and more importantly their service standards, this place would be great, but until then, it is a very very questionable place for a good time...
