Food opposite of ambiance
Submitted Saturday, June 27, 2009 - 3:10pm [Dine in]

I arrived at Watermark excited, and left very disappointed. I met a group for a birthday, and the evening was gorgeous. The service was good, and the view and decor great.

My appetiser of prawn spring rolls had a strong ammonia/fishy taste, which indicated spoiled prawns or bad freezerburn or both. Most of us took a bite and then left the rest. The wasabi yogurt sauce was bland. The wine we were drinking was bitter, corked maybe. My friend whose birthday it was and her co-worker who arranged it had already drunk a bottle and probably couldn't taste the prawns, so I didn't mention it to her as I didn't want to make a scene.

My chicken breast was as tough as leather, difficult to cut, and my asparagus was basically raw. The mashed potatoes were tasty (lots of butter does that) but very salty and heavy. My friend's filet mignon was the worst he'd ever had, tough and greasy. The artichoke and crab dip was good, but the fried dipping breads greasy which was odd with such a rich dip. The chocolate orange mousse/cake was flavoured like shortening or margarine.

I think White Spot and Earls have better food, but this cost almost twice as much, and the prawns were spoiled... My mojito with blueberries had 3 berries in it, but I was charged $2.50 extra for those berries! The server didn't mention the premium when I asked her about fruit drinks. We paid a large mandatory service fee.

I think this restaurant has terrible quality food at an outrageous price. The menu sounds good but what arrives is executed so poorly that it is very disappointing, more like bad cafeteria food at dinner. The view is nice, but the music is terrible and very loud so that we were all hoarse at the end of the evening from shouting over it, which is why the ambiance isn't a 5.

I definitely won't be back for dinner.. Maybe for a burger at lunch if I'm with someone who really wants to eat with a view, which would be cheaper and harder to ruin when cooked by someone unskilled. On the other hand, I could get takeout from a park kiosk of similar quality and save my money for a really good restaurant elsewhere.

Delicious and spiffy - I'll be back
Submitted Saturday, June 27, 2009 - 2:58pm [Dine in]

I still remember the two meals I've had at Wild Rice, and need to go back there soon!

We had a great bok choi ceasar salad with a sesame oil twist that I'm still trying to make at home, a perfectly tender lamb shank that we ordered to share, but once my mother tasted it she claimed it was 'her' order alone so we had to order another (!), a yummy spicy chicken dish, a delicious mashed taro bowl to share, a wonderful lychee infused vodka martini, and everything else was good too, but these were my favourites.

The food is fancy and delicious, in reasonable portion sizes for the most part on the entree side. I like the family style sharing presentation. The seating is a little uncomfortable, but the price is great, the servers are pleasant and prompt, and the ambiance is nice. People bring their kids here and the kids behave well - and other people just come with cool coworkers. It's that good.

Yummy and fun with a group

I brought my friend who used to teach in Korea here, and she loves it so much that we keep coming back. The portions are huge, and the food is delicious. Just order for fewer people and you will still have enough food and better value. I'm getting better at barbecueing all the time.

Service speed was fine - the servers are actually busy, and there is so much food that we didn't need help ordering more - and sets of those 6 tasty little extra side dishes arrived quickly and for free whenever we asked. We ate some kind of large mixed-meat BBQ with chicken wings, glass noodle salad, soup, and spinach as well as all the usual yam, kimchi, sprouts, etc. on the side - I forget what it was called, sorry!

Our little room was very clean and cute. The restaurant wasn't noisy. We had a great time, and spent about $25 each for a massive, delicious dinner.
