Disappointing!
Submitted Friday, August 5, 2011 - 11:57am [Dine in]

My SO and I were down at Langley and decided to try Pasto Polo. I ordered Italian Sausage and she ordered seafood pasta. Within the first bite I could tell it was bland. Same goes for her seafood pasta. It felt like they took a tablespoon of sauce mixed with 2 cups of water and dumped it on the pasta. That's how bland it was. Same goes for SO’s pasta. No amount of salt and pepper can fix it. The portions are huge and service is decent. Disappointed, we left with 1/4 of our pasta eaten. It’s safe to say my SO and I will not be coming here again.

Salt Fest
Submitted Tuesday, December 21, 2010 - 7:23pm [Dine in]

Just finished eating here and I had to write a review right away... I've had margaritas elsewhere and they are so much better than here. You could hardly taste the alcohol and it was overly sweet. I got the beef burrito and boy was it sure salty!! Even the refried beans were salty. My bf's dish, the l.a. Burrito hardly had any meat in it and was filled with mainly sourcream and more sourcream. For this price i would go to steamrollers, which is alot tastier and healthier. The ambience is good thou, service decent not outstanding.

Sneaky People!!!
Submitted Saturday, October 9, 2010 - 1:28am [Dine in]

We decided to try this restaurant out with our entertainment coupon. i agree with the other reviewers, there is really only one man who does everything. we ordered the butter chicken (12.95) but for $4 more you get a bowl of rice, naan and papadum and we also got the lamb tikka with the sides as well (14.95). the portions were small, and we only got one bowl of rice for the two people...found that odd. the butter chicken was flavourful as was the lamb tikka but the tikka dish the onions were just plain and burning on the hot plate. everyone else who ate there was there with the entertainment coupon ONLY. by the time we got our bill we paid and left. but only later did we realize that the bill does not add up to what we ordered. we went back and found out that they already added 20% tip to the bill without telling us and we tipped again on top of that!! also they let us keep our coupon, telling us to come back with it...heck.no.we.will.never.go.back.

another great sushi restaruant to add to my list!
Submitted Wednesday, April 28, 2010 - 12:36pm [Dine in]

im glad that i found this tiny gem. we were a party of four and we ordered the 3-4 ppl combo which is 41.50. we also added to it 4 toro and 4 uni nigiri, spicy tuna sashimi and the jalapeno roll. boy! were we ever stuffed! the sushi pieces were huge, the sashimi (by far the best ive ever had) was melt in your mouth texture and our tea was constantly refilled.

the service is typical for any asian restaurant, we were all greeted by the cooks when anybody walked in. the restaurant is very tiny though so we had to wait about 15-20 min even though we were the first ppl waiting.

i went with a japanese friend and she said the fish was so fresh and it was even comparable to the sushi in japan.

i am def. coming back!

changed since the last time I went
Submitted Wednesday, April 28, 2010 - 12:27pm [Dine in]

my family and I decdied to come back for another party of 10. since the last time we came, they've changed their menus. before you were able to choose between the sizes you wanted for the pasta, small or large. now it is only one size you can choose from but the dish is a WHOLE lot smaller! my dish, the macaroni and cheese, was so greasy. my bf's dish was bland, mushy, very wet pasta. the better i would at least recommend would be the luigi pasta.

the service was alright, she seemed to be just there doing her job.

all in all, its changed alot since our last time there. my family has decided not to come back anymore. which is sad, i think its back to antons..

food poisoning...
Submitted Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 9:25pm [Dine in]

I have been to the cannery a couple of times prior to this night. I decided to take my bf here for our 3yr anniversary. We made reservation on opentable, which clearly states window seating is only a possibility. When we arrived we were seated to our table, a non window seat and we asked if we could wait for a window seat. We waited about 15 min and during that we ordered a virgin pina colada. The first time I had this I remember my sisters and I had to complain because it didnt taste right at all. I thought it cant be the same the 2nd time around, I was wrong.

I ordered two fresh shucked oysters to start (size of a loonie...) followed with the salmon wellington. Bf ordered the clam chowder and seafood linguine. My dish was very good in portions, loved the roasted veggies that came with it. But the salmon wellington was very dry and even when i drained all the sauce on top still very dry. Bf said is chowder was very yummy (wish i got that instead) and said the linguine was very wet. The pasta wasnt normally tossed in the sauce it was drenched in the sauce.

Service was good, view was breathtaking and i finally purchased their lobster oil! ($25)

here comes the worst part, the next day I got food poisoning...i am 100% positive it was from the oysters. I know they have this caution sign "consuption of raw oysters can lead to unknown food bourne illness..." but for this restaurant who have awesome reviews to not know how to handle oysters properly? makes me think twice in ever coming back here again.

ummm you charge for pita bread???
Submitted Saturday, June 6, 2009 - 9:12pm [Dine in]

Just got back from this restaurant and I had to write the terrible experience we had there. We started off with the calamari appy, and our server asked us if we wanted any pita bread. of course we said yes, we said yes not knowing that they actually charge for pita bread! what greek restaurant have you ever been to that charged you $2 for two slices? i mean its only $1 a slice but every other greek restaurant is free of charge!

the calamari appy was yummy, not to oily or thick with batter. it was ok portion for 8.95 (pretty cheap for calamari) I ordered the mousakka and bf ordered the lamb shoulder. it both camed with lots of veggies, potatoes and rice. the veggies were a very good portion, was very pleased with that. the potatoes didnt have that greek flavour like other places do and the rice was soggy and bland. bf enjoyed his lamb and said it was very tasty, my mousakka on the other hand was ok...bechemel was thick, custard like. i have had better elsewhere.

now this is the worse of the evening, we overheard one of the owner servers offer a customer the specials of the day. our server NEVER said her name, specials of the day, refill our water or walk by at all.

btw there is no free parking, ambience is quite nice and the patio was very pretty. we normaly tip very good, but this evening we did not at all

it WAS our favourite place
Submitted Monday, April 20, 2009 - 1:33am [Dine in]

i wrote a previous review saying how awesome this place is. now i would definately NEVER go back. i found out that they switched their AYCE fish and chip fish from pollick to bass. the change over apparently happened over a month ago. fish and chip is normally really tender and have a smooth texture to it. now this "bass" is very mushy and taste undercooked.

we also had another bad experience that day, we got a server who was new that day. we asked if we could sub onion rings instead of the fries for the AYCE. she went to double check and she came back with a "yes" later on the manager comes to our table and told us, your server made a mistake but since she agreed we'll give you onion rings on the house. it wasnt a big deal for us, we would have paid the extra charge, seriously we didnt mind at all. then when our meal came out, it came out with fries. so we thought ok, i guess we dont get the onion rings. we pointed this out to the server and asked us again, "you want onion rings?" at the end we did get our onion rings and when our bill came, they charged us for it! we had to get someone else to fix the bill. it was a terrible second experience and would never go back there again.

although the cook told us it was only for this location that they changed their fish....

Just another typical greek restaurant
Submitted Monday, April 20, 2009 - 1:22am [Dine in]

went here today with my boyfriend for dinner. we ordered the calamari to start which was 9.99, and two lamb shoulder dinner for 18.99 each. the calamari was good, nice and hot. the lamb shoulder was huge! but the flavour wasnt the best, although it did fall off the bone. the only thing that impressed me the most was the rice, it was so flavourful and non greasy. the veggies were typical, the greek salad tasted as if it had been made awhile ago....

service wasnt the best all around, lets just say she looked bored. she didnt say anything when she delievered our dishes, which i found really odd. the other server/hostess was really bubbly, too bad we got this server. other than that the ambience there is romantic!

overall, i wouldnt bother going back unless were in the area...

Submitted Friday, February 13, 2009 - 10:29pm [Dine in]

Boyfriend and I come to this restaurant all the time. service is always the same, the gents are super attentive and very quick in service.

we always order the lamb curry, spicy minced pork and eggplant hotpot (our favourite, we can never get enough), coconut rice and the haienese chicken rice. to drink we order the virgin chi chi for two! its so cute how they come in a large bowl with two straws sticking out of each end. and occasionaly we would get the deep fried banannas with vanilla icecream. and just recently we thought we would try something new, we ordered the coconut seafood fried rice. freaking amazing! i cannot wait to go back there again just to eat that. as well we love how their food is consistent and hot every single time.

all in all, good service, good food. cant go wrong with that can you?

Boyfriend and I went here tonight to celebrate valentines. we went a day earlier because we knew it would be busy on the night of valentines. we made reservations for 6:30 but arrived an hour earlier. the gentleman happily greeted us and told us it was ok. since it was early we got to choose our table, we choose a table at the corner and we were able to watch the sun go down. it was unbelievably breathtaking.

we each got a soup of our own, bf got white seafood clam chowder. interesting how they made it, they added a puff pastry on top. for myself i got butternut squash. both were equally yummy. for our entree bf got rack of lamb whereas i got the duck l'orange. the lamb is so moist and flavourful! and my duck was just as good. oh the bread they give you is so darn good! i think they add dill to it...since it was so good we had to get refills! i normally dont eat bread cause their fillers but i just had to.

as for service two thumbs up! we would def come back for the view and food. btw our bill came up to only $60 including tax, our server graciously accepted our entertainment coupon. not bad for a fancy restaurant eh?

DOV dinner went well
Submitted Friday, February 13, 2009 - 10:08pm [Dine in]

we we're a party of four and decided to try out griffins because of their dessert buffet. we had made reservations, therefore we were seated immediately. the choices of appy we're either soup of the day, ceasar salad or market salad. the soup of the day was wonton soup, because we went on chinese new year weekend. we passed on the wonton soup, but got the ceasar salad and market salad. i agree with the previous reviewer, found it odd that a ceasar salad did not have croutons. but i did like the fact that they had fresh thin pieces of mozzerella on it.

for the entree it was either beef striploin, salmon or tortelli. to our amazent the striploin was huge! the entree itself was enormous! we got lots of asparagus/mashed potatos and 3 long strips of beef with it. although this dish was good, our poor friend had a piece of salmon the size of 3 fingers...

as for the dessert, nothing really special about it really. nothing really WOWed us. the hype about this restaurant is the buffet dessert...

parking was kind of tough, especially since its downtown.

the service was awesome, the lady was very attentive and filled our waters constantly.

i would def come back again but only with entertainment coupon or DOV because it is pricey

we were a group of four and we came with our entertainment coupon. i believe this restaurant is owned by a chinese man. when we walked in he very nicely greeted/seated us and gave a full speech about his menu. he explained to us that the roast lamb is fall off the bone tender. as well since i always get bad experience at other restaurants i asked him about his moussaka. he said you've got to try it to see for yourself.

we ordered calarmari to start, very nice batter and it was hot! i cant wait to go back for them, they were delicious. i ended up getting the mousakka and it was so yummy! the guy said the roast lamb was fall off the bone but it was wasnt, it was really chewy and it had a hard texture. the portions we're worth the price and service was amazing.

during our dinner, the guy who greeted us sat down and ate dinner with his girlfriend. kinda thought that was weird...no staff room? and the cook kept going in and out to chat with his friends/family? i mean if you own this restaurant shouldnt you keep it more professional? all in all we had a great experience and would def. come back.

my family came here for our moms birthday. we were a party of 10...

we ordered some dishes first and was planning on ordering more when the rest of our party arrived. found out later the waitress, who did not know how to speak english very well, messed up our order. there were three servers in total and only one knows how to speak fluent english.

food arrived quick and hot and their portions where decent, they can get props for that. but their prices are ridiculous! a plate of bbq pork was 18 dollars!

we ordered bbq pork, jap chae, the seafood pancake, pan fried dumplings and the meat hot pot. everything was really good and tasty but the meat hot pot. we know its like the main korean dish but we didnt find anything special about it.

overall service/ food was good. and they have lots of parking.

this restaurant is one of my favorite, they have to die for ramen and the most attentive servers known. their ramen portions are quite large and their prices would range from 7.95-9.95. the ramen that my bf and I normally get is the vegetarian vegetables ramen and the spicy beef brisket ramen. i never felt thirsty after each meal, i personally dont think their is any msg in the dishes.

parking is very easy, the restaurant is beside the casino so tons of parking there!

plus the restaurant is fairly large so you'll never have to wait to get seated.

all in all, i would recommend this restaurant to everyone. enjoy!

been to this restaurant several times and every single time the food and service is just as good. my family and I always go there for their shrimp sweet and sour hotpot which comes with a side of caramel fish. it feeds 3-4 and comes with a big big bowl of rice to share. if you've never had Vietnamese hot and sour soup this is the place to go. another dish that is very filling and yummy is their rice dishes. wow their broken rice and lemon grass chicken is amazing. it also comes with a bowl of soup! and last but not least, their egg crepe/omelette. its a huge dish and comes with all the vegetables you can think of. it has a nice crunchy texture and is filled with lots of stuff, very good with fish sauce. oh i cant forget their 3 bean dessert/drink, its awesome!!

overall this restaurant has good food and service, would recommend it to everyone!

i've been to kishu river many times. the best time to go though is after 7pm where they have 40% off certain dishes. i usually go with my bf and we would order 5-6 rolls and 2 tempera dishes. the total with the discount would come to just under 20 bux. their rolls are amazing, especially the avocado roll and their negitoro roll. although it doesnt look so nice inside and the service isnt all the best, its good for decent, cheap sushi. its not all that bad like the other reviews that are posted.

BUT my mousakka...never again am i going there for that. and the calamari appy tasted as if it was bought frozen and very soggy. other than that ambience was very nice. cute little wooden stalls to sit in.
