A bad experience and a bad make-up experience tarnished our view
Submitted Monday, September 15, 2008 - 10:04pm [Dine in]

Went to Bouzyos with a small group. We had a pretty good meal, except that one of the party asked if he could have a souvlaki mix (half chicken, half beef). The waitress described a half portion of each meat, and obliged, and we went on with appies. We were sitting very close to the kitchen window, and heard the waitress arguing with the cook about the half chicken and beef skewer (how it should have been half and half, not two full skewers). Anyway, she brought out the food, and there was a full skewer of chicken and a full of beef. We thought this to be a mistake, that they had accidently cooked two full skewers. This was fine, but when we got the bill, she charged for an extra skewer at $10, making a souvlaki mean $26!! When we brought this to her attention she LIED and tried to say that's what she thought we asked for, even though it was her who had described the half and half portion to us in the first place. It was very strange. We didn't argue (and she wouldn't look at us) but called the manager the next day. Bouzyos gave us a nice gesture, a gift certificate. We returned a few weeks later with another group, and one of the calamari plates had three pieces of plastic in it. We showed it to the waitress, who talked to the kitchen and said that it was NOT plastic but off the calamari. Another lie - the three pieces all had vertical lines like the top of a blister sealed plastic bag, and perforated angles edges! This propensity not to own up to problems is a shame at Bouzyos, because the food is pretty good!

Delicious Dinner
Submitted Monday, September 15, 2008 - 9:52pm [Dine in]

Dinner out here on a Saturday night. We both ordered the sirloin and it was really nice. I like mine quite rare, and the cooked to order. The vegetables and potatoes were excellent. They could stand to add a few more veggies to the plate, but we both left full. Their french onion soup is pretty good, but a fairly expensive $8 a bowl. The service was good. Excited to go back!

Rotten Veggies in Salad, Overcooked, and Mediocre Service
Submitted Monday, September 15, 2008 - 9:47pm [Dine in]

We went to George's for dinner because we had heard it was pretty decent. Long wait (waited over 30 minutes for entree). Pita Bread served after 25 minutes, but had to remind them to bring Taziki. We hoped after waiting a while, we'd get great food. I asked for beef souvlaki with rare beef (most Greek places manage to cook it rare on request). It came quite well done, and both beef and potatoes were dry. The worst part though was the greek salad - in both of our cases we had green peppers with rotten black holes and spots. We counted eight pieces like this in total. Told the waitress, and she offered no amends except to "tell the kictchen later". Service very slow, waitress on cell phone twice. Will definitely not go back - try Kisamos on the next block, as it has great prices and really good greek souvlaki and potatoes!

Good Greek!
Submitted Sunday, January 13, 2008 - 9:16pm [Dine in]

We go to Minerva's sometimes, and have had good experiences. It is a bit pricey, but the food is solid, and the service is pleasant and attentive. The crowd tends to be older (in Kerrisdale), and the decore a bit tired, but it works for the restaurant. Would recommend it for Greek!

Excellent Greek!

Go to Olympia frequently, and the food is consistently excellent, particularly the souvlakia, roast pork, and the chicken/baked pasta. The service is variable from extremely rude, to really pleasant and attentive. Prices are reasonable too. Overall I'd recommend it!

Appalling service from the owner
Submitted Sunday, January 13, 2008 - 9:08pm [Dine in]

We discovered this restaurant in the Entertainment Book, and decided to try it out. We went on a relatively quiet Tuesday evening. The food was pretty good, and the server was quite nice. The issue arose when we went to pay. As we needed to go quickly to make a theatre performance coupled with the fact were paying by debit, we went up to the counter at he back. The server said she was quite pressed and would come back in a minute or two. The owner (we knew it was the owner because he had articles with pictures of himself on the wall) came over, interrupted, and said he would ring us through. We handed him the coupon and debit card. He then became extremely rude. He literally ripped the receipt from my hand, and threw the pin pad and my debit card on the counter. I said something about his actions. He then became verbally aggressive, and said for the price we paid for our meal, what do we expect. He continued to berate us, while other customers looked on. He ocmpletely embarassed himself. Very odd to pick a fight with a customer for no reason. Needless to say, this story has kept a number of people from dining there.

Good sushi rolls, good price!

We go to Hatsune fairly regularly, both in-house and take-out, and find it's consistently good, and well priced too. The rolls are satisfying and well made. Service is friendly and prompt. Definitely better than ASA Sushi on 41st.

Excellent Dinner Experience
Submitted Monday, December 31, 2007 - 3:35am [Dine in]

Went to the Fish House for the first time for a romantic dinner, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The waitress was excellent. Food was great too, we both had the Salmon Wellington which was fresh, huge portion (if not too large). The accompanying veggies and appetizer were excellent. Everything was cooked perfectly. We had a molten lava cake for dessert which was just okay. A bit pricey and small. The dining room was pretty loud, but there were a few Christmas parties so it wasn't a reflection on the restaurant. will definitely be back!
