Eating here is almost a criminal offense
Submitted Saturday, February 14, 2009 - 9:35pm [Dine in]

My friend and i tried this restaurant. The ambience is great and the decor is beautiful. Food is pretty good. I recommend the Lobster bisque and the lamp popsicle as starters. Otherwise, the main dishes are allright, nothing that fantastic. The price points is reasonable as well, somewhere between $15 - $25. If you are not there for the food though, Crime Lab is a great location for drinks because after drinks with your date, you can have a very nice stroll to Stanley Park.

Must Have, the Coq Au Vin
Submitted Saturday, February 14, 2009 - 9:15pm [Dine in]

Great food and great atmosphere. Who would have thought the Gay village Davie street will finally have a classy restaurant. I recommend with high marks, the Coq Au Vin. It is simply divine. Another good thing is the Pork Schnitzel on Thursdays. Best thing is that all these meals are about $20. A fantastic value!

At least there is one in westend
Submitted Monday, November 5, 2007 - 7:48pm [Dine in]

I happen to like waking up early just to have a good breakfast at breakfast joints, but in westend, there is unfortunately a dearthof good breakfast joints. Joe's grill along Davie is one pretty good one. Food is not spectacular but is solid food, egs are fried right or scrambled right, bacon and sausages are okay. Their waffles, french toast are solid. Their food is admittedly nothing fantastic to write home about but it is done right at least and taste good too. Solid food. The service i have to say is amazing, the servers are just friendly, and timely with the food and coffee. I will recommend the Banana pancakes to anyone who goes because it taste great. Great value for money as well. And i agree with the previous reviwer, you can sip your cup of joe with newspaper in your hand and its allright.

Awful service but great food
Submitted Monday, August 27, 2007 - 8:22pm [Dine in]

Congee Noodle House is anoter typical average chinese restaurant that is not high class. You do not expect any service there and you be allright. The food arrives fast, great congee (of course) and the other dishes are delicious as well. The decor is awful, the tables are not spaced well at all too. But again, if you are looking for a quick chinese meal that is delicious and very inexpensive, go for Congee Noodle House. It like going to Hon's but the food is better than Hon's.

Thai with a Kick
Submitted Monday, August 27, 2007 - 8:12pm [Dine in]

I had the pleasure of going to O Thai twice and both times i was impressed with the food and the ambience of the place.
So far i had the cashew chicken for lunch and the famous tamarind crispy duck and the cashew nut chicken again for dinner. The cashew chicken dish was very average i have to say, the chicken pieces while big is not the best chicken i had. The sauce is hardly there. The crispy duck on the other hand was really good. The duck was sufficiently crispy and the tamarind sauce was very flavourful. I had not tried any of the chef's creation dishes though, not sure if they are good but it will be slightly costly to try out the chef's creations since they are expensive. My advice, stick with the fundamentals, the stir fry and the duck. Overall, i had a great experience, the decor was great, service was good and the food is not bad too.

Good food, not so good ambient
Submitted Monday, August 27, 2007 - 8:02pm [Dine in]

I was surprised, their lamb skewers was prepared and cooked very well. The lamb pieces were juicy and tender and it was spiced correctly. Service was okay and the ambient was passable. But if you just wat good food, go for it. I had their naan bread as well, and it was okay. Good thing is that it was value for money.

Uninspiring
Submitted Monday, August 27, 2007 - 7:55pm [Dine in]

I am Singaporean and so i was really disappointed with the food in there. Most of the popular Singaporean dishes are served there but it is mediocre at best. Even the peanut sauce chicken dish (which is NOT a Singaporean dish by the way but Singaporean inspired dish) is awful since the peanut sauce is so diluted. However, for the 2 for 1 coupon, it certainly is value for money. However, having said that, i do not reccomend the place.

Great Indian Curry
Submitted Monday, August 27, 2007 - 7:51pm [Dine in]

I was introduced to Desi Downtown by a friend, i had chicken curry and my friend had the lamb curry which i shamelessly tried as well.
Both curries were delicious and again with Indian restaurants, you can always specify how chilli hot you want the curries you wanted. Both of us had ours at medium and it was pretty tasty. Their garlic Naan was a very nice, soft and tasty. My only problem with it is it is slightly overpriced for Naan breads. The curry was priced reasonably though although the portion could be a tad bigger and it was served in a metallic oval shaped platter which i was thinking, you can burn your fingers on it if the food is hot. In terms of ambience wise, the decor of the restaurant looks great. Overall, i did have a satisfied experience there, decor was great, food was great, service is okay.
