Can't wait to go back
Submitted Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 9:35am [Dine in]

I love fish and the Fish House does not disappoint. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar beforehand. Our table was towards the back of the restaurant and nicely placed so that you could talk quietly but were still in the hub of the restaurant. My first course mussels were excellent, some of the best that I have every had - and I've eaten fish and seafood all around the world. My husband went for the prawn cocktail and was not disappointed. He opted for the special of the day which was three types of salmon which was excellent. My seafood bowl was superb. A refreshing sorbet and wonderful latte completed the evening. The service was excellent and discreet. I can't stand waiter who spend the evening hovering. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to have excellent food with outstanding service in a fantastic location

Nice but noisy

This was our 3rd visit and on this occasion my 40th birthday as well.
The food was good - although not what we thought we had ordered - request for prawn cocktail got tempura prawns. No sooner had we finished our starter than the main course was served - they had not even taken away the dirty plates so it all felt a little rushed. We were sat upstairs and I know it was 9pm on a Friday night, but you could hardly hear yourself think let alone talk to your dinner companion. Was an OK evening, but our previous visits were better and remembered more fondly

A perfect Italian evening

Our first visit and it was excellent. Although the restaurant was full it was not noisy and you did not feel as if the next table was included in your conversation. The service was excellent - not too fast and not too slow. The food was outstanding. My husband asked for a portion of Swiss chard, but they had run out. Instead we were presented with a complimentary serving of fresh spinach which went well with the main course. I am not a big fan of deserts, but the lemon tart was sublime. Thierry is a magican in the kitchen with pastry. An excellent wine list as well with some helpful, but not patronising suggestions from the waiter. All in all an excellent evening and one we hope to repeat on our next trip to Vancouver.

What a disappointing evening

We should have had an inkling on how the evening who go when we were left standing for 10 mins after they told us our table was ready. Even when we got there - no cutlery on the table to start with and very poor lighting - maybe this was to disguise the food. Starters were OK - Chowder for me and Calamari for my husband - have had better. I chose the seafood linguini - has no one told the chef you do not put paramsean cheese on seafood pasta - and why smother the whole plate in a cream pesto sauce that was heavy enough to sink the titanic! I'm not sure why the veg of the day was piled on the top of it either! My husband's steak was OK, but again he's had better. The evening was capped off when the staff started to re-arrange the table and chairs - they had had a large party in earlier and then instead of taking the used glasses and crockery away on trays or by hand they wheeled the plastic trolleys they use behind the bar - why walk back to the kitchen a few times when you can make a huge amount of noise with your trolley.
The view of the city was amazing and this is the only reason the rating was a two. As a visitor to Vancouver I'm glad that I had already sampled some excellent food and service at other restaurants because if this had been my first Vancouver food experience I would have been running back to the airport for the next flight home to London. We certaintly were not on cloud 9!
