Nagano Japanese Restaurant2918 Glen Dr, Coquitlam
One of the best in town!
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 11:38pm [Dine in]

We have been to many sushi restaurants and Nagano is one of the best so far. It is a bit pricy compared with other restaurants but you definitely get what you pay for. And it is well worth it!

Food is excellent. Sushi is fresh. There is a comfortable feeling when dining there. Setting is very cozy.

Service is second to none. For people who want great Japanese food then this is one of the best options.

Mui Garden Restaurant4265 Main St., Vancouver
Decent HK cafe style restaurant
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 5:26pm [Dine in]

Been here several times, food is decent. Service is decent. It's a good place to have a quick dinner with people who are not picky. Some items come with soup and drink which is a bonus.

They have some specialties as promoted by the restaurant - ie the HaiNam Chicken, or the Curry dishes. Both were good.
Price is reasonable. Typical average HK cafe type restaurant.

A must try!
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 5:23pm [Dine in]

This restaurant is one of the coziest and classiest restaurants we have been to. After renovating several years ago, this place has a great high class feeling.

The food is a bit more expensive but comparable to other restaurants of this class (ie Sun Siu Wah & Kirin). The portions were bigger than expected and food was great!

Several friends had wedding banquets here and all of them were happy with the resultss. Outside, may not be too glamourous but once you go in, you will see it's a whole different restaurant. And parking is ample so no need to worry about finding a parking spot.

Excellent AYCE for late nighter
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 5:19pm [Dine in]

We usually come here for the late night AYCE. Prices are cheap and there is a good variety of items to choose from.

Atmosphere was clean and service was good.

We are regulars here for late night cause it's a great place to satisfy your hunger (price wise & selection) after a good work out at the gym.

Nice AYCE place
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 5:11pm [Dine in]

We have tried out this place as it has been advertised numerous times in the local papers.

We were expected sub-par quality compared to other AYCE jap restuarants. But were we wrong.

The food was good. The service was great. Food came quickly and finished dishes were taken away in a prompt manner.

For the price you are paying it is good value. Would consider coming here again.

Curry King Cafe4250 Kingsway, #5, Burnaby
Why curry king?
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

The name is catchy to say the least. In the past, the place would be packed. However in recent months driving and walking by, the place seemed fairly empty.

I have tried eating there twice and each time was below my standard compared to other HK type cafe restaurants. The dishes were bland and not too appealing.

I would think they had so much business back then was the location, the name and probably had better food in the past.

They have expanded their franchise to other locations (Cambie), but after eating here, my expectation is qutie low compared to the other Curry King. Thanks...but no thanks.

There are other cheaper and better HK cafe type restaurants out there.

Nice quick place to have sushi
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 5:03pm [Dine in]

They have expanded to accomodate more people. There were lineups with people waiting outside before the renovation. After the renovation they have people sitting on the bench beside the window.

Dining in can be a problem, so we go there during non-peak hours. Service was good. Atmosphere was decent and place was clean.

Food was good. Prices were cheap. Would suggest going there.

Papa Joe's Pizza & Pasta House4520 Hastings Street, Burnaby
For take out only
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 4:59pm [Dine in]

We have ordered pizza several times there and it was good. So we decided to try the dine in experience.

We were left speechless to say the least! There was no direct entrance to the restaurant. We had to go in the Pizza place entrance and then through a side door to the enter to the restaurant.

The place was VERY DIM..I'm not sure if they had christmas lights but it was so dim that I had to be careful where I walked.

The glass & cutlery was not clean at all and was a bit disgusting. Place was dead empty on a weekend night.

One of my plates was an oriental type plate. What the...? Why didnt' they replace it with a regular white plate?

There was one staff there and he occassionally left the room to do something else, leave just us in the restaurant. What if we needed service? Do we have to wait for him?

The food was decent. Service and setting was horrible. Would NOT go there again for dining in. Take out ok, but no dine in.
I couldn't wait to finish my food and leave.

It was pure torture in there even with the entertainment book coupon.

No. 1 Beef Noodle House4741 Willingdon Avenue, Burnaby
Place is becoming more of a hangout than restaurant
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 4:52pm [Dine in]

We been here several times. The most recent was several months ago. The first time a couple of years ago, when food was good. Atmosphere has always been up to standard.

But lately, the food quality has deteriorated. We are seeing more kids going in and hanging out there. No that there is anything wrong with it.

We have also noticed that it is not as busy as before so that was interesting.

Price is very reasonable and sometimes you get what you pay for. I'll only come back if I am in the neighbourhood and have a craving for Taiwanese food.

Kirin Seafood Restaurant1163 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam
One of better places for Dimsum
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 4:48pm [Dine in]

Been to all the Kirin locations, and this is one of the better ones. You can sit comfortably in the restaurant without feeling the need for more space.

The service is excellent. When you raise your hand for attention, the employees respond swiftly. It is amazing to see the number of tables they cover during the busy lunch hours. I was impressed.

Lunch is the best option as the dimsum & other food items are very delicious. Usually bill works out to be about $8-10 per person which is reasonable.

But for dinner, I would not recommend it as the food quality is a notch lower. And the price does not justify it.

But all in all, for dimsum, a great place to go to.

Poco Ocean Restaurant2755 Lougheed Highway, #2, Port Coquitlam
Hidden gem in coquitlam
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 4:43pm [Dine in]

This restaurant is one of the best restaurants I have been to in terms of food quality.

It is very busy at all times and recommend making reservations or expect a LONG LONG wait! Also you need to have a cantonese speaking person to come here or it will be difficult to get your message across. Don't expect any fancy setting as it is a mom & pop restaurant. The only real complaint I have is that the service can be a bit slow as they only hire 1 waitress to help out during dinner times.

All the specialty dishes are in chinese and are posted against the wall.

The portion is smaller than usual, but the great food more than makes up for it. The hot pot items comes out piping hot.

If you are looking for good quality restaurant and don't mind paying a bit more, then this is it! I highly recommend coming here for picky eaters.

Saffron Indian Cuisine4300 Kingsway, #5, Burnaby
Forced to eat buffet?
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 4:38pm [Dine in]

We love eating Indian cuisine but they are expensive relative to other type of cuisines. We dropped by Saffron the other day as the smell of the food attracted me to dine in.

Setting and atmosphere was very nice.

When we sat down, the waitress ADVISED us to not order items on the menu as it was going to be more expensive than eating at the buffet. Buffet was about $18 per person, and 1 item on the menu was already $14 (expect a small portion) so you will need to order additional items.

We proceeded to take a look at the buffet (this was around 6:30 pm - prime dinner time). It was not at all appealing. There were only 2 pieces of chicken in one of the trays, the other trays were fairly empty and from the looks of it just had sauce. It looked like leftovers from a party. Was not impressed at all.

We settled for butter chicken however to our surprising, the order DID NOT come with rice? What the..? Usually there is either Naan or rice but nothing. We had to pay an extra $3.50 for rice? We went to several Indian restaurants and there was either Naan or at least rice served with the dish!! Ridiculous! We ended up settling for the buffet instead.

Food was ok, nothing spectacular. Just did not like the bait & switch technique. The food was so expensive if you ordered single items that you somewhat have your arm twisted to order the buffet style dining.

Frankly, I would NOT come here again.

Sushi Town5935 Hastings Street, Burnaby
Cheap eats good value
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 4:11pm [Dine in]

I have frequented this place numerous times. It is extremely busy during lunch & dinner hours. I was informed about this place 2 years ago. At that time, the food and price was excellent. Currently, the food' quality has deteriorated somewhat. But the price more than makes up for it.

Someone with a sushi craving but on a tight budget then this is one of the better places to try out.

I used their take-outs a couple of times and found it much more convenient than dining in. All in all, a fairly good place to eat sushi in the north side of Burnaby.
