Good Dimsum hangout but not for dinner
Submitted Saturday, December 27, 2008 - 5:42pm [Dine in]

Been here numerous times to count for Dim sum on weekends. Place is packed. We usually go there when it first opens to avoid waiting. The food is fresh and portion is good sized. The atmosphere is clean and the washrooms are better than typical chinese restaurants. Inside of the restaurant is much nicer than what the outside of the restaurant portrays.

Very good price. About 4 of us costs under $40 each time and were completely stuffed at the end of the meal.

We went here twice for dinner. It is not one of the better places to be for dinner. One dish we ordered had a weird smell which we returned. The freshness is not there. Probably because they don't have enough customers to turn over food inventory hence the lack of freshness. We wouldn't be back for dinner, but definitely be back often for lunch (dimsum)

Love the daily specials!
Submitted Saturday, December 27, 2008 - 1:38am [Dine in]

Love the different type of rolls that this place offers. Unique and tasty. Centrally located in North Burnaby. Very nice atmosphere.

I love the different daily specials they have for the week. Prices are reasonable and the quality is not too bad.

Suggest anyone in the neighbourhood to go try it out.

Nice restaurant for a date
Submitted Friday, December 19, 2008 - 3:44pm [Dine in]

From the outside of the restaurant, you can't tell that the inside is night & day. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered into the restaurant. The atmosphere was very romantic. With the music, lighting & decor.

The bread came and it was pretty good. Service was good. Only complaint was one of my orders was a bit too salty.

The portions was more than generous which is a plus.

But they had some good dishes that most Italian restaurants did not have (some items from desert & the escargot)

Overall, it was a good experience and we would be back again.

Pizza craving? Come to Fresh Slice
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 12:57am [Dine in]

It's provides one of the better bang for your buck. No coupons, 2 for 1 specials. You pay what you want a reasonable prices.

Lots of selection/combination of pizzas. Fairly clean environment. Is franchises so you can go to different Fresh Slice locations to get the same type of taste.

Can't complain...offers quick fix for pizza craving.

Location, location..and that's about it.

This place is usually busy thanks to it's location. Too bad the food doesn't complement the setting. Place has a nice setting however the food standard is not up to par for the prices it charges.

My friends went there and showed them a coupon and the waiter there made comments on why they couldn't use it but it was not disclosed in the coupon.

Unfortunately, there are not any dimsum places in Metrotown area so they cornered the market in this case.

But if I had a choice, I would rather go somewhere else.

With so many HK style cafe restaurants opening, it has given this place some competition.

Food was decent but prices aren't as cheap for the food quality we are getting.

There is a distinct smell of bleach each time I went there. Did anyone smell it? Finding a parking is a pain if u park there during rush hour 3-6 pm as there is no parking allowed on Kingsway during those times.

I would not go back there again as there are other options more appealing.

Good lunch location
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 12:49am [Dine in]

I have been here numerous times for lunch. Price is very good. We have about 1/2 dozen people and each time the cost was about $5 to $6 per person including tax & tips. For that price, it can't be beat.

We order the special dishes on the menu, not the dimsum style take out cart they have.

The fried noodles and rice is above average.

The service there is prompt and courteous.

Only problem was finding parking around the area which can be a hassle.

But overall, if you aren't picky with food and want a good value, then this is a good start.

One of the better places to have dim sum or dinner. Price is reasonable. Decor is above average. Location is fairly central with easy of finding parking.

Employees there were friendly and service was prompt.

It is an alternative to Kirin and definitely a must try for people who like to eat Dim sum.

Good place for vietnamese fix

Compared to other Vietnamese restaurants, this is one of the better options. The food is not as greasy/oily as other Viet restaurnts so that's a plus.

The soup base on the noodles is very good.

Prices are more than reasonable and finding parking was not a problem.

Defintely will come back again.

Came here for dinner twice. Place was fairly empty. Now I know why. Food is not the best and they are charging a good bit for their food. Definitely not worth what you pay.

They have changed owners several times, with each time not much of a difference.

Personally the quality isn't there and the price is not the best. I would pass on this.

Good for family on a tight budget
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 12:36am [Dine in]

This is one of the main places I used to go a lot when I was a kid. the Rice/Noodle with 2 toppings combination can be equivalent to 2 MEALS! Talk about value.

They also have help yourself to free soup and tea which is an added bonus. This is probably the best value for food in all of Greater Vancouver.

Prices back were cheap and still remains cheap now!

I still go back there for one reason. To fill my stomach for $5!

Not one of the nicest place to sit and eat, but at that price, does anyone care?

High turnover on food so guaranteed fresh dishes that haven't been sitting there for hours.

It is packed almost all the time and expect to get cut in line. But who cares, it's not like your dish will run out.

Kent's is like a combination of cafeteria style mixed with McDonald's production.

For under $10, you can feed a family for 4, which is a steal these days. However food is average at best as dishes are produced en mass. So expect some discrepancies in some dishes if the sauces aren't mixed well.

But can't complain and say will go there on occassion, only cause it's cheap and portion is huge!

If you know how to eat, then this is one of the better places.
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 12:26am [Dine in]

I went there several times this past year and it's become one of the options to go with the family.

The are busy and do great business and only opens in the evenings! How many restaurants can stay in business doing that?
And it is not a fancy restaurant as the setting is mediocre at best. However given the lackluster setting, they charge a premium for their food. So expect to pay more eating at this restaurant compared to others but the food more than makes up for it.

The food is outstanding and dishes are one of the best when comnpared to other restaurants.

If you are food enthusiast and know how to eat, then this is a must try.

This place was recommended by some of my friends. Went to the place two times. Ok surroundings but the food is below par. You can get better dim sum at other restaurants. MSG was quite heavy and the food was not deliciious at all.

However it was packed both times. I am guessing most people that come here (the regulars) do not know what good chinese food tastes like. Unfortunately this is not the one.

I am passing on this next time I get invited here. Thanks, but no thanks. There are others.

I come here for the Noodles!
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 12:08am [Dine in]

Been here several times for dinner, and there s no consistency. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes below average. Since then I have only dropped by for lunches where you can get a hot meal cheap.

I order the wonton noodles or congee. But mainly a noodle type dish. It is decent and for the price of about $5 in this type of restaurant and I am more than satisfied.

Must try on specials!
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 12:05am [Dine in]

This is one of those hidden restaurants where the food is great but will lack the decor.

If you want good chinese food, then this place is for you. The specials are very good and other chinese restaurants don't make it as good.

The downside is inside is a bit rundown, so don't expect a fancy restaurant. Even without the needed renovation, they are busy and suggest making reservations before going on the weekend or Friday night.

A place to bring your friends and family to have a good dinner.

Nice breakfast menu
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 11:58pm [Dine in]

One of the better places for quick eats in Chinatown. Food selection is good. Pricing is more than reasonable. Service is not bad as you have waitresses in their green uniform.

A lot bigger in the inside than outside. Spacious atmosphere. Sometimes I drop for a quick breakfast on a weekday. You will be in & out in no time. For about $5, you get a very decent breakfast. Sure beats eating at McDonalds.

Most of the orders come with a side drink which is a bonus.

A must try when you are in the neighbourhood

$6.95 lunch special ok.
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 11:54pm [Dine in]

I first went there during the time when they first opened. Food was great everything good.

However things seemed to have changed. After going back several times for dinner, the dishes weren't as delicious as before. There is a lot of MSG as I was feeling very thirsty afterwards (however I didn't encounter this problem the first time I went there).

The lunch special is nice. At $6.95 for a dish, the price is good. Beats eating at the food court. I would go back only for the lunch special.

The atomsphere there is good. Nice decor all around. Good location but parking on the side of the restaurant can be a pain because it is metered parking unless you are willing to park across the street in the mall and walk across.

Decent place to have Thai

We drop by here at least once a year (thanks to those Entertainment book coupons). Prices are reasonable. Food is not bad.

The Pad Thai Noodles are good along with the fried rice. Atmosphere is very comfortable and located in the busy Metrotown area.

For someone curious about trying Thai food this one of the places I would recommend.

Excellent choice for HK cafe style
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 11:47pm [Dine in]

I've been here many times and can say this is still one of my favorite places to be.

Parking can be difficult around the area, but they try to remedy the situation by providing reserved parking in the parkade beside the Holiday Inn.

Decor is modern with 2 TV's for viewing sports. Not many HK style cafe's offer this.

The view from upstairs is fantastic. You can see views of North Vancouver if you are sitting on the north side of the restaurant.

Menu was easy to follow and they have specials during specific times that includes drinks. That is a bonus in cases where I decide to have dinner early.

Waiters & waitresses were friendly. Food is excellent for this type of cuisine. It is just a tad pricier than other HK cafe styles, but the are operating on the West side of Vancouver so that is expected.

Overall I am a regular there because of the food and setting and recommend anyone who hasn't tried this place to give it a shot.

Good value for dim sum
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 11:41pm [Dine in]

We've been here several times and given that this location is located in the port coquitlam there aren't that many places that one can go for dim sum.

The prices here are affordable compared to Kirin, however the quality is a bit worse, but not to a point where it's no good. Food is average but you do get what you pay for.

It is a bit far for people living in Vancouver to come here. However for people living in the tri-cities, this one is definitely an option to consider.
