Bing Sheng Restaurant1800 Renfrew Street, Vancouver
Solid place for Dim sum & dinner.
Submitted Thursday, November 26, 2009 - 3:53pm [Dine in]

The dim sum gives more variety and uniqueness than typical Kirin. If you are the adventurous type, then this restaurant provides the right dim sum.

As for dinner, their items on menu are special and not many if at all places have some of the items they serve. The price is reasonable.

The decor is decent to below average (during the summer) as it can get really really hot. I would avoid coming here during the summer during the busiest hours unless you are coming in just a tshirt and shorts. The building is an old building and not built to handle the ventilation that restaurant needs.

But all in all, the food is great from lunch to dinner and is one of our regular spots to dine.

Good HK Style cafe
Submitted Thursday, November 26, 2009 - 3:50pm [Dine in]

We have been to this location many times even from the time when it was King's Park. I must say Copa Cafe is living up to expectations.

The menu has a lot of variety and the specials that come with a drink are very well priced.

Trying several different items, we were not disappointed each time.

The place seems to be getting busier and busier. Everytime we go, the place is packed.

Definitely an option to go to when we are in Coquitlam

Nice interior with good atmosphere
Submitted Thursday, November 26, 2009 - 3:47pm [Dine in]

We decided to try this restaurant among the numerous ones on Hastings Street for an Italian meal.

On the outside, it looks like a typical restaurant, but once inside, the place has a lot of positives going for it. The music, the ambiance and the atmosphere in general makes you forget that the restaurant is on a busy Hastings street.

The food is decent and service was good. Would recommend here as one of the Italian restaurants to go to.

Truly ethnic!
Submitted Thursday, November 26, 2009 - 3:44pm [Dine in]

This is a must try for anyone craving ethnic foods. This is one of the only few true ethnic restaurants where the food is like home cooking. We have been coming here on occassion for the usual dishes - beet soup & cabbage rolls.

And other suggested entrees are the Schnitzel and lamb. Portions are large and we came away very satisfied each time.

It is located in the heart of the Denman area. A nice cozy restaurant where good food is appreciated.

Decent place for cheap chinese fix
Submitted Thursday, November 26, 2009 - 3:41pm [Dine in]

This place seems to cater to a quick typcial Chinese food restaurant.
Not the high end but the low-average end clientelle.

We sat down to standard tea with no choices given.

The food came and were decent but nothing standing out.
Some of the items (honey garlic pork) could use more flavor. I could taste the fried pork but not the honey.

And we were given plates for our rice. PLATES? Usually at chinese restaurants we were given bowls. I guess it's cause it's catering to the western style customers.

We asked to wrap up 2 dishes that we could not finish. And to our surprise they packed both dishes in ONE CONTAINER? One dish was sweet and the other dish was spicy. Uh...I guess they wanted to save an extra container.

Must admit the container are the better ones compared to the typical styrofoam ones.

The outing was decent. And it comes down to price. If you are wanting to save a few bucks for ok Chinese food then this is it. If you looking at eating at a nicer chinese restaurant, then this is a pass.

A bit heavy on the salt
Submitted Thursday, November 26, 2009 - 3:33pm [Dine in]

Dropped by this place to try it out when craving for Greek.

Decor was fairly good and place was liked the fact that the place was clean.

Price was reasonable, and portions were sufficient.

Only negative were the dishes we ordered were too much on the salty side. I couldn't finish the potato that was served and some of meat were too salty. If they correct this problem, then the dishes would be ok.

Decent Mexican cuisine
Submitted Saturday, April 18, 2009 - 11:37am [Dine in]

This is our first time trying Mexican cuisine and didn't have much expectations. As we went in, the service was very casual. Our table had not been cleaned and we had to pointed it out to the waitress.

We ordered 2 entrees with Lamb as the main item. The dishes were good and portions were more than generous.

Overall the restaurant was fairly clean and the atmosphere was good. We had a fairly good experience. As long as you don't mind the lack of service, then it's worth trying.

Must try for hardcore desert lovers
Submitted Sunday, April 12, 2009 - 11:33am [Dine in]

This has got to be the best Dessert place in the Lower Mainland. This place is packed all the time.

In addition to the desserts, I have ordered several large tarts as a special order and each time was not disappointed. The service is efficient and the employees are friendly.

The prices are expensive compared to the typical dessert restaurant but it is well worth it. I bring family & friends here all the time and they rave about it each time. The desserts are done with fine detail and each type of dessert makes you want more. The other orders (sandwiches) aren't bad either.

It is not centrally located and need a car to get there, but it is well worth it. Considering the quality of the food, this place is not over priced and well worth going to.

Ok for cheap eats
Submitted Sunday, April 12, 2009 - 11:28am [Dine in]

Went here with a couple of friends and the prices here are cheap. We had 4 dishes off the late night snack menu and our total bill came out to under $30. The portion is decent and comes with a drink. The place was packed.

The price seems to be the selling factor. The food was average at best and the restaurant is below standard in terms on cleanliness.

For anyone coming here, I would avoid going to the washrooms. It will affect your appetite in a negative way. But this is usually the case for most fast food places. Decor and cleanliness are at the bottom of the priority list and price and size is the top.

Good place for fish & chips
Submitted Sunday, April 12, 2009 - 11:23am [Dine in]

This is the place we would go for fish & chips whenever we are in the Stevston area. It's located along the dock and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. As an added bonus, for people with pets, they can eat outside during the more favorable weather on a nice day.

The service is good and the food is quite good. The halibut is my favorite. it is fresh & tasty! The prices are average, not cheap but not expensive. Good place to bring your date or for a family outing.

Make reservations before you go
Submitted Sunday, April 12, 2009 - 11:19am [Dine in]

We have been here quite a few times and each time this place is packed! If you don't make a reservation you can expect to wait several hours so you might as well eat somewhere else.

The service is slow and probably due to the fact that they are under staffed. However the food is good and the prices are reasonable. This is one of the reasons why it's so packed all the time and why I frequent this place more often than not.

This is one of the better Shanghai restaurants to eat in Richmond.

Sandbar Seafood Restaurant1535 Johnston Street, Vancouver
Excellent Seafood restaurant
Submitted Sunday, April 12, 2009 - 11:15am [Dine in]

We visited Sandbar several times already during the course of the past few years. We were not disappointed every time.

The atmosphere is romantic and the views are captivating.

It is located in the heart of Granville Island and the food compared to other seafood restaurants is better in terms of bigger portions for a decent price. Not to mention that the food is really good.

The crab cakes are a must try. The clam chowder is very good along with the salmon burger & Oyster sandwich.

For someone who enjoys seafood, then this place is a must try. They have been consistent over the course of time and that is what brings me back each time.

Nice dessert place.
Submitted Saturday, January 17, 2009 - 9:22pm [Dine in]

It's one of the few places that serves good desserts.
We usually order the Pear tart, mango cheesecake or the passion fruit flan. The prices are reasonable and the portions are adequate.

For someone who is interested in eating fine dessert without having to eat all the sugar associated with it, this is one of the better places.

The decor is nice, but the place is too small to have any good dining experience. But the quality is good and reasonably price that are a frequent customer here.

Small portions & overpriced
Submitted Tuesday, January 13, 2009 - 5:51pm [Dine in]

We went there on a weekend for dinner. The place was fairly empty. Only had 2 other tables being served.

Looks like a family run restaurant. The lady seemed to be the owner there. The service was a bit on the slow side.

The food came and we were fairly disappointed. The portions were small. On top of that, we had to order extra side dish of rice because there wasnt enough rice to finish the butter chicken.

We asked if the Rice order would be small portion, she replied 'yes it is!' we were shocked when we heard that. At least she was being honest.

Even though we had a 2 for 1 coupon from the Entertainment book, it was a very expensive dinner.

We would not be back as the the small portions and overpricing were the major reasons.

Cho Sun Korean Restaurant3486 Kingsway St., Vancouver
Good quality meal
Submitted Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 5:10pm [Dine in]

Went here couple of times. Quality is good. Service is friendly. Asked for more sauce for some dishes and we received them promptly. We always ordered the seafood pancake. It is really good. The soup based dishes are well cooked.

Outside, you wouldn't know that this little restaurant is there as it is located in an area where lots of businesses closed down. We came here to try from a recommendation of a friend as left happy.

We will come here again next time we are interested in Korean food as it is one of the fewer good Korean restaurants in Vancouver.

Pretty good for authentic Chiu Chow cuisine
Submitted Thursday, January 8, 2009 - 7:57am [Dine in]

From the outside, seemed like a typical Chinese restauarant catering to nonChinese. We went here to try based on recommendation of friend who said if we wanted to try authentic Chiu Chow then this is a must.

The decor is nothing spectacular, sort of like a typical western style cafe.

We ordered items NOT on the menu and had several Chiu Chow dishes. I guess it's because of the location, they had to cater to the people there so it was the basic fried rice, frien noodles, sweet & sour pork etc. So if wanted something authentic, you would have to ask the chef/owner in person.

Otherwise you would not know those dishes existed. We tried a mix of dishes on & off menu. The omellette, soup, beef fried noodles, crab along with the Taro dessert. Another time we came, we ordered a shark fin dish. Yes, to my surprise, it was on the 'off' menu. Most of the dishes were very good. Would definitely go back again.

In the Greater Vancouver area, there arent' many Chiu Chow dishes that are good, but we are glad we came to this place as this is one of the better places to have the authentic cuisine.

Don't expect a nice decor but if you want to eat good, make sure you ask the chef what is their off menu dishes.

A good Italian restaurant.
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 12:12am [Dine in]

The decor of the place is quite nice, a very romantic setting when compared to other Italian restaurants.

The food was better than average and portions were good.

Service was adequate and could be better. We came here because of the entertainment book card.

Overall impression was a very good Italian restaurant nestled in
New Westminister. Better decor and food than the typical Ristorante.

Lives up to expectations!
Submitted Sunday, December 28, 2008 - 10:58pm [Dine in]

I have heard from people that this is one of the best Asian contemporary cuisines available in the Lower Mainland area. And it did not disappoint.

We ordered the 8 dish tasting menu at $40 per person. The flavor of each dish was excellent.

Service was excellent. Plates were changed quickly and there were two waitresses that attended to our table. They were courteous and helpful and exceeded my expectations.

For people who eat just Chinese food, they may find this pricy, but for the type of cuisine that you are eating, it is fairly reasonable.

Decor of the place from the outside seemed nothing special, but inside the restaurant it was very cozy and chic.

Ended up having a great time and would go again soon.

Bit pricier after renovation
Submitted Saturday, December 27, 2008 - 5:05pm [Dine in]

The portions here were fairly generous but then again you pay a good dollar for the dish. After the renovation, place is larger but nothing spectacular. With the price increase, it is no longer a cheap eat HK Cafe type restaurant. It borderlines to upper class prices but without the quality.

The portions were still fairly large but at around $12 a pop for some rice/noodle dishes, it is expected.

Don't go during peak times! You'll just end up waiting and waiting. It's very busy most of the times and it's because it's got the location. Right in the heart of Metrotown with no competition for this type of cuisine. I guess when you have a monopoly in the mall, you can pretty much set higher prices and people will still come.

For me I won't purposely come here to eat unless I'm in the mall and craving for this type of cuisine.

Good wonton noodle place
Submitted Saturday, December 27, 2008 - 4:47pm [Dine in]

We came here several times and am very impressed with the wonton noodles. They are tasty and one of the better dishes that is served in the Vancouver area. Other items were about average but the main dish is the wonton noodle soup that will make me come back to this place. Prices were more than decent and the place was clean and nice.

Parking can be a problem, especially if you go during the rush hour as you won't be able to park on Kingsway after 3 pm. Also you will be competing with other cars to park on the side streets who plan to visit other supermarkets around the area.

All in all, excellent price for a good dish of wonton noodles. A must try.
