Amazing food for a special night out

Went back to Blue Water recently. This was my 3rd or 4th time here and it is always a treat. The seafood is cooked perfectly and the flavours are balanced so well, it is a real pleasure eating here. The service is great no snotty waiters just well versed polite staff minus the pretentiousness you get at many of the similar places around town. We had the oysters and scallop ceviche to start, my main was the qualicum bay scallops in a citrus sauce, which came out with wild rice cakes , caramelized onions and wild rice cakes- delicious! The value is solid for the quality, ambiance and service you receive. Definitely worth it for a special night out- foodies be prepared to be blown away.

This tiny place on Main street is one of Vancouver's best kept secrets. We have eaten here at least a dozen times over the past year and it is our go to dependable favorite place. We know we will always enjoy something on their specials board and usually go with the table d'hôte which is a fantastic deal. The staff seem like they genuinely enjoy working there and are always friendly. The decor is basic but the food is fabulously tasty with a good basic selection of affordable wines. Portions are generous and it is a wonderful place for a dinner out. I cannot say enough good things about this place.. we have been to many fancier places but rarely enjoy them as much as Grub. For desert forgo the vegan selection it may have a weird texture ( unless your vegan obviously) try the pear strudel it is wonderful. Grub I heart you!

A poor attempt

Recently visited the "new" LUPO with a mid sized group and was disappointed by the quality of food. My husband and I go out to eat several times a month and like to try out new places to see if they match up. We had been to LUPO when it was VILLA DEL LUPO , which was a wonderful restaurant, and had great expectations. Firstly the waiter went out of his way to mention wines that he thought were well priced and noted a number of times that the restaurant was supposed to be a more affordable version of the old VILLA. We don't generally purchase outrageously expensive bottles of wine but enjoyed a number of lower priced bottles with the 3 courses that we ordered. Appetizers, the ravioli was good, probably the best part of the meal - melt in your mouth .. yummy. We tried the special appetizer and it tasted like pate out of a grocery store package not terrible but defiantly not great. Our mains included the osso bucco which was not tender and accompanied by a risotto resembling macaroni and cheese, and a number of fish dishes- one in which the fish had a mushy texture and another with fish that was much too dry. No one had the pasta so have no comment on this as a main. Dessert was standard and fine but nothing special. In terms of value there are many other places to go which are better priced with much much better food. Thumbs down
