Wasted money

I don't usually go to this place, I usually go to Big Orange or Bubble World near Metrotown. Today we thought to give this place a try. I ordered a Green Milk Tea with pearls and pudding jelly for $4.25. The drink tasted like watered down milk with lots of ice at the top, while the pearls and pudding jelly tasted like nothing. Just chewy, unflavored jellies. Disappointed and won't be going back.

Nothing Special & Got bad service on this visit.
Submitted Tuesday, October 16, 2012 - 1:59am [Dine in]

It was a beautiful, sunny day at Steveston when my boyfriend and I decided to have lunch at one of the restaurants. I used to come here a lot in the past with my family, and vaguely remember that we had good experiences here with the food. I thought that it would be nice to have a try again.
We got a table out on the patio and were given menus. Waitress came by and asked if we were ready to order, but we needed a couple more minutes. She never came back. We were not even asked for any drinks. I'm a server too, and the first thing you need to do is get the drinks out! So after being ignored, yes- ignored for about 20 minutes (I kid you not, the bf tried to call a different waitress who was cleaning a table near us, and I am pretttyyyy sure she heard, but she shuffled away)- we finally were able to stop a waiter. We ordered clam chowder and fish and chips. We also asked for a glass of water and Iced Tea.
And then, the wait for the food began. I don't know, it was probably another 20 minutes? That's not the best part though. I think the whole team of servers passed by our table and not one of them realized we were sitting there with an empty table. I didn't ask them for our drinks because I wanted to see how long it would take them to realize we didn't have any drinks yet. So then the food finally came. The waiter came out with them and dropped it on our table, said Enjoy, and turned on his heels so quickly I almost- allllmosttt thought he wouldn't hear me. I said Can we get our drinks? A turn of his head and he sputtered out "Whhaat?" I repeated "Can. we. please. get. our. drinks."
"Oh... what did you order?"
Gosh. A different waitress came out with our drinks (thank you). Seriously, who was our server? Or are you guys not assigned tables? The clam chowder was amazing. 3 stars for that. I might, just might return only for this chowder. The fish was so damn crispy, it crumbled when I tried to stick the fork through it. Not impressed. Hopefully you guys see this review and change up your service. Or at least check on your customers once in a while. Please?

Miko Sushi Japanese Restaurant1335 Robson Street, Vancouver
authentic + fresh = $$
Submitted Tuesday, August 2, 2011 - 6:36pm [Dine in]

I know I know, it's Robson Street so that's why the food at Miko is much more expensive than what I am usually used to (Richmond/Burnaby prices).
My friend and I got a seat right away at a booth for two. Got our tea moments later and we started to look over the menu. We ordered a few appetizers - shitake buttered mushrooms, gyoza, and calamari. I think those were around $5-6 each. We also tried the dynamite roll, spicy salmon roll, and sake nigiri. The salmon was very, very good and fresh. I loved it. My spicy salmon roll was delicious. The chef had mixed it with a spicy sauce, and I think there was also some tobiko inside. It would have been perfect if it hadn't been a whopping $6 for 6 tiny pieces.

Service: Our server was a very friendly lady and genuinely nice. She came at the right times to ask how the food was and to refill our tea. I gave it a 4 because our sushi took a long. long. time to arrive. The two sushi chefs were obviously very busy though (place was packed).

Michi Waffle & Espresso Bar1319 Robson Street, Vancouver
evening snack
Submitted Tuesday, August 2, 2011 - 6:19pm [Dine in]

I tried out this place with my friend one night while we were hanging out in downtown Vancouver.
Basically had the same experience as the customer below. The guy behind the counter didn't say much, we greeted him first...lol? We wanted to try the green tea waffle sundae, but he said they were out of it. So we got the Summer Delight waffle sundae.
We sat down at the table by the window and after about 10 minutes he brought out our waffle to the table. It was really good. On the bottom was the waffle w/ icing sugar sprinkled over it, and vanilla ice cream and whipped cream on top. There were wedges of strawberries and melon, with chocolate syrup drizzled over everything. It was our first time here and we only wanted to try out the waffles. Next time I'll go back and try something from their hot beverage selection and a different waffle.

Japa DogCorner of Burrard and Smithe, Vancouver
my favorite dogs
Submitted Monday, August 1, 2011 - 11:59pm [Dine in]

Before heading out to go bike-riding, my friend and I were starving and needed lunch fast, so we decided on Japa Dog. It was great! Service is very friendly. It's a very small space, and seating can be cramped, but there was a free table for two where we sat down. Next to us was a counter where you could add spices or other ingredients (onions, radish, tomatoes, etc.) to your Japa dog. We had the Beef Terimayo, Okonomi, and butter-flavoured fries. Honestly, I could do without the fries - they were definitely not making my taste buds happy. It's probably just me, maybe the other flavours are good. The Terimayo I had was amazing! I had the Oroshi before, but this one is now my favorite. I'll be back to try more :D

Charlie Don't Surf15011 Marine Drive, White Rock
first time here
Submitted Monday, August 1, 2011 - 11:27pm [Dine in]

My friend suggested we have dinner here while we were visiting the beach. It was my first time dining at Charlie's so I was pretty excited. The place is dark. Really, really dark. The booth we had felt like I was sitting at a booth at a night club. Haha, but it was nice! The interior is beautiful, and I loved the restrooms (mirrors-galore).

Service: Food took an extremely long time to come out. Our waitress asked if we wanted our appetizers before our mains, and we said yes. Well...the appetizers arrived at our table 1 minute before our other food came :S We had to ask for our refills for our drinks. Waitress only came back once to check on us and how the food was. And then once more to give us the bill and to collect empty plates. She was friendly though. Hostess was not very helpful when we wanted to pay our bill.

Food: Bruschetta was okay. I could have made that at home. Calamari was good. Spicy Italian Sausage Penne was.....meh. Ate about 1/3 of it. My Coke tasted like...Diet Coke?? :|

Overall, I have no idea what made me tip 15% (probably because I liked the restroom too much)... walked outta there thinking I will not come back. I think my friend liked it though.

Food: Love their food. I usually come in to order some of their deep fried appetizers and their bubble teas. Fried rice selection is also good (Kimchi fried rice). They make the best squid tentacles! Sometimes it is a bit bland though, but not inconsistent enough to stop me from going there! The pearls for their bbt are perfect, not too mushy or sweet.
Service: I don't usually eat-in here, but their take-out service is decent and friendly.

Late Night.
Submitted Monday, August 1, 2011 - 11:00pm [Dine in]

It is usually busy whenever we go (later than 9pm), and a handful of times where we had to wait at the front. The longest I've waited for a table for 2 was probably 15-20 minutes? It was too long, but our food made up for it!
We usually go there to order from their Late Night Special Menu (dine-in only). $2.99 maki sushi and $0.89 for their nigiri sushi...♥ Like someone else said, if you are craving AYCE, then go here! It is much better quality and value for the food.
Service: I have never encountered any problems here. Our food come out fast. The servers are typically very busy (so they are not too attentive) but friendly when we ask them for something. You just need to ask them or remind them for whatever you need.
Love Matsuyama!
