Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The1499 Anderson St., Vancouver
Good place, delicious food

I’ve often walked by this Keg when I visit Granville Island and wasn’t particularly excited about a dinner outing with friends at this restaurant. By all appearances from the outside it looks like a surfer hangout, so it was a pleasant surprise at how polished the actual dinning area is on the main floor, more like the other Keg Restaurants. The service was prompt and the serving staff were pleasant and attentive from beginning to end. My steak was done a perfect medium-rare and no one was disappointed. Also, the ahi tuna appetizer with a wasabi-mushroom reduction was delicious though slightly overcooked but not so much so as to disappoint. The pricing is what one would expect for a steak house. A great place for a steak dinner with friends when Granville Island is the destination.

Brunch with a touch of class

I’ve visited on a couple of occasions and left pleased each time. The enviroment is cheerful and elegant with it’s arwork and white linen tables, and the waitress on our first visit couldn’t have been more attentive and pleasant. The smoked salmon florentine benny was delicious and I ordered it on both visits. I love my hollandaise and theirs was light and done just right. I sampled my partner’s chorizo benny and it was also delicious with pesto but I’ll always be a hollandaise fan. On the second visit the service seemed less attentive but the gallery restaurant was full as opposed to our quiet visit on a Saturday. Perhaps we were spoiled with the service from our first go round. Price was good with the organic and freerange ingredients in their menu. A really nice setting that’s my new to-go place for brunch.

Get together with friends

Visited Burgoo with a couple of girl friends on a Thursday evening. The restaurant has a comfort feel and the drinks we ordered were good. Karen didn’t care much for their Beef Bourguignon but I thought the lamb main was tasty and I enjoyed it. As for the service, it was polite but on the slow side but the place had the nice hub of people eating, drinking, and enjoying themselves and we had a lot to catch up on. Perhaps a little on the pricey side but I’m sure to visit again if in the neighbourhood and in no particular rush.
