Sandbar Seafood Restaurant1535 Johnston Street, Vancouver
Mostly for the view
Submitted Sunday, October 18, 2009 - 10:26am [Dine in]

You can tell this place is mostly caterred towards tourists, great view (if you get a window) and good service but the portions are pretty small for what you pay. I ordered the seafood hotpot and it was like $20 for what I would deem to be a little bit more than an appetizer. I ordered a beer and it was $6 as well, and this for the Granville Island Hef, supposedly brewed just down the street.

A lot better selections I think in the rest of town I think but the service was good and they do serve you fast. Little value for money though.

Great service, nice atmosphere small portions
Submitted Wednesday, December 26, 2007 - 5:51pm [Dine in]

I probably have not been to place where I have seen the staff work so hard. They really make quite an effort which adds to the atmosphere. Food is very good and different from the usual cuisine. Portions are small though so dont if you are really hungry. They know my first name at all the buffets so I am a little biased.

Great Value for money...if you donèt have a heart attack
Submitted Wednesday, December 26, 2007 - 5:48pm [Dine in]

There is probably no other place I have been where you can get better value for your money. But here is the downside, try the Mixed Grill and you will see. Its a festival of meat on meat with lots of cholesterol for growing boys and girls. Doctors love this place as well...it keeps them in business.

Impressed!
Submitted Sunday, May 13, 2007 - 1:57pm [Dine in]

Last night was the first time I ventured to this establishment after good reviews from some of my friends. I was very impressed with the large variety of items on the menu. Tapas, which I usually, think are licence to print money due their small sizes, are actually almost of entree size here although this does vary by item. Service could improve as we had to wait some time for water and bread. Also staff are dressed in t-shirts, maybe at least golf shirts would look a little better. Please note that the Entertainment book coupon cannot be used on Saturday night between 6-830, I hate it when they do this with little fine print!!
Would go again, best to go with a large group and share the tapas. Lots of free parking on Broadway as well.

Small Portions - poor value
Submitted Sunday, May 13, 2007 - 1:53pm [Dine in]

Unless you have a small appetite which I am the antithesis of you will find the portions here quite small. Certainly the smallest of the portions I have had at any Italian restaurant in Vancouver. For good value bring along a coupon from the Entertainment book. Ample parking and good service however.

Good food but long wait
Submitted Saturday, April 21, 2007 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

Bottom line the food is good but the wait time is ridiculously long. The Greek restaurant down the street on Moncton seems to be more popular amongst the locals. I think this place could be just as good but waiting 45 minutes for a meal in the restaurant won't cut it. There is a take out window as well but since it takes a long time to prep the order you better bring a parka on a cold day.

Good food, a mainstay but....
Submitted Friday, April 13, 2007 - 11:15pm [Dine in]

This place never dissapoints and I think the food is great. Seems to have been in Richmond forever. Now the downsides. 1) Crowded and very loud, can you hear what the person next to you is saying?. 2) Washrooms need some attention. Some parking in the back otherwise you will be relegated to street parking to fill the coffers of the City of Richmond.

Nothing special here. Lots of better choices elsewhere in Richmond. Clean and may have hockey game on. Good for the unannointed or for germaphobes from New Zealand. You even get fortune cookies here if that turns your crank.

No doubt the best in town
Submitted Friday, April 13, 2007 - 10:58pm [Dine in]

Long lineups during the summer as this place is easily the best in town. They actually use fresh fruit which sets them apart from the pack. Good for stopping by after a run or ball game at Douglas Park.

bring a coupon
Submitted Friday, April 13, 2007 - 10:55pm [Dine in]

The food is good but pricey. I am often torn between coming here and Northern Delicacy upstairs. Good if you come in a group so that you can try more items but would be real pricey for 2 at dinner. I would suggest coming for lunch if you come for 2. Nice setting with big windows so can see it raining outside.

Good food but cheaper elsewhere
Submitted Friday, April 13, 2007 - 10:46pm [Dine in]

Good food, sizeable portions but priced commensurate with the fact that the restaurant is open 24 hours. Thus if you are price conscious you can get as large portions and equally as good food at verious other locations in Richmond. But then again if you have craving for good Chinese food at 1am this is the place to go. Chances are you will be taking out...not me though I eat like an animal!

Sorry to say...overrated

Very popular place amongst the locals but pricey and everytime I come here I still always feel hungry afterwards. I sometimes have to pour on extra hotsauce to fool my stomach into thinking its full.

For the same price I could go to Hons and still have leftovers for tomorrow's lunch.

Popular Take Out Place
Submitted Friday, April 13, 2007 - 10:35pm [Dine in]

Make sure you get there by noon as there is usually a deluge of folks coming here for takeout. The longer you wait the harder the rice gets on the sushi. Pretty decently priced and something that can definitely fill you up for $5. Free tea if you eat in, mind you you have to sit on a stool. With most takeout places serving high fat, high sodium garbage, sushi is a somewhat healthy lunch alternative...now if they could only use wild rice.

Okay but pricy
Submitted Friday, April 13, 2007 - 10:31pm [Dine in]

Food is good, but is pricey, use a coupon from the entertainment book. They often let you re-use the coupon for a future visit. Located in the heart of Richmond but then you have to pay park at the Richmond Inn. Alternatively go later and park on the street for free.

Good food good price
Submitted Friday, April 13, 2007 - 10:27pm [Dine in]

This is a regular place for me and my gf. Good food, lots of authentic selection and decently priced. There is substantial competition in Richmond for Northern Chinese cuisines so this puts added pressure on quality and reasonable price points. More important, lots of ample parking
