First this restaurant is not in Kitsalano, it is on east Broadway. We wanted to try something different so my wife choose this. Unfortunately she didn't tell me how to prepare until we were there. There are no utensils. It might have been good to have the hand wipes before we ate and after.
We went on a Saturday night and there was a large party at another table. The place is not huge so with one waitress response was a bit on the slow side. The waitress was pleasant. I had no idea what to pick so thinking the combo's on the menu might give us a sampling I looked to see what was there. The combo's are just your choice of how many vegi and meat dishes you can choose from the regular menu so no help there. I didn't notice if there was a sampler. We asked the waitress for her recommendation and she didn't seem all that enthusiastic about helping us choose. In the end we got two vegi items one spinach based and the other I forget then a beef and a lamb to round out the dinner.
The food arrived on a platter of a sponge like tortilla and there was a plate of rolled up ones too. The texture was soft and one tears a piece then uses that to pick up the items on the plate. The proportions looked small but were more than adequate as I left feeling very full. The dishes were excellent on the taste side, interesting spices and fun to eat. The only complaint here was the salt content, a little high for us, so I'd ask for less salt next time. I couldn't tell the difference between the beef and the lamb as the spices were dominant. I'm a wimp when it comes to hot stuff but tried the green color peppers in the meat dishes, which turned out to be very good.
This place met our expectations for a food adventure.

After a morning of kayaking a group of us went to Coney Island. I haven't been to White Rock in a number of years and wanted to try fish and chips. I had brought a list of the places from this web site but one of group said this place was the best and they had been here a number of times. We arrived mid afternoon so it was pretty quiet.
The place is small and provides take out. Since we wanted a beer we ate in. Unfortunately the tables are small so our group of 7 had to sit at two tables.
The waitress was attentive and took our orders quickly. I had the two piece fish (cod) and chips. The halibut was quite a bit more expensive. What I didn't know was the quantity of food we were getting. The two pieces of fish could cover the whole plate which was large. I could barely finish the fish which tasted really good. I wonder who orders the 4 piece fish? I think there was even a 5 piece on the menu.
The batter was crunchy, light and not greasy. It was delicious. The chips were a bit above average not as crispy for as long as I prefer.
The waitress brought the bill with all our orders together. She did not complain when we asked her to break it down and give totals for the couples.
I'd definitely go back. I'd order a single piece of fish but by the time I get there again I'll probably have forgotten how big the helpings were, remember how good it tasted and my eyes are bigger than my stomach.
