Feeling Rushed?
Submitted Sunday, January 15, 2012 - 5:15pm [Dine in]

You have everything planned... A surprise dinner gathering... You both arrive, and then your invitees start arriving behind you, however they don't allow you to sit in the lounge at await the rest of your party they want to seat you right away even though we are early. Before we are all even there the waiter is asking if he can take our order... HUH NO, we are still waiting for more people to arrive, we have already ordered drinks and a couple of appies. When all our party has arrived he’s back to pushing for the dinner order to be taken, even though we have all only been seating together for a few minutes, however we give him our requests and he leaves, a little while later the plates arrive and we eat and share and talk, and when we were done the dishes had been snapped up some without asking “are you done” to which annoyed some of us, this is just rude, taking plates when you are not ready for them to be taken. He then brought desert menus back and gave very little time for us to look at them or to think about it before coming back and asking what we wanted to order (some of us hadn’t even looked yet as we were chatting). When we asked for a few more minutes he gave us a big sigh and walked away and never bothered to come back. When he did come back he didn’t take desert or after dinner drink orders he just handed me the bill, everyone’s all on 1! It was shy of $500 and he was treating us like this. I got up and asked to speak to the manager, he came and spoke with me, I told him this is not how you treat people you want in your place of business, he tried to say it was a long day and its hard when you have a big parties, I told him don't and me that pile of crap, I have worked in the service industry and I know how to treat my customers, and we are not a big party we are only 8! So make a note when you see some of us with note books taking notes during our dinners and lunches or brunches and breakfasts, we are your critics and we can make you or break you.

Over all the cooks here know what they are doing, too bad the front end staff is giving them bad reviews!

P.S. I think if we had gotten desert we wouldn't have been hungry when we left. Appies & Meals on the small side.

There are some better places to wait forever for a seat now
Submitted Sunday, January 15, 2012 - 4:36pm [Dine in]

We had been we a few times in the past for birthdays and other special dates so when a friend and his wife came up from Portland and we went there we were happy enough with the food, the service was definitely slower than in the past which was sad as we all know the cost we pay when we go here, (we expect to be treated well for the money we are spending), the plates finally start to arrive on the table and my husband were shocked how things had changed, portions had changed, not to mention something I asked to have removed due to allergies was still in there, when the waiter finally made his way back over to the table I told him and he was smug and finally after I stood up (I was going to find a manager) he finally took it back to the kitchen to replace it, I guess he expected me to eat it after all, after it was all said and done the manager was involved and we all ended up with free desert (whipped dee doo) ... we were all hungry after we left there.
It’s no longer the same and it’s no longer worth the wait.

Always A Great Eat! Always RECOMMENDED!
Submitted Sunday, January 15, 2012 - 4:06pm [Dine in]

Joe’s Grill on 4th in Kits should be a must attend intuition! This Kits Girl gets FAB grades and Grads every couple of weeks for attendance and a clean plate!
The food is always hot, fresh, and fab, it’s also enough never to leave you hungry when you leave unless you are extremely picky and just don't know what you’re doing and you sub this and that... just leave it to them and order from the menu! If you ask me what to order I will tell you anything with Hollandaise Sauce (Egg Benny MY FAVE!), but my Hubby will say the Chorizo Hash is the best thing on the menu so there is no winning this argument  We have also taken out of town friends and family which told us the Waffles where amazing, and so where the Club House Sandwiches, but away from breakfast is desert in the summer on the way home from the beach .
To the Girls & Cooks this morning... THANKS for sending me home so happily stuffed I wanted to sleep haha.
The service is always great; the servers have been there forever and just know how to treat you (even if they are juggling a million things).
This place is highly recommended several times a month in conversations

Our Server went over and beyond!
Submitted Sunday, January 15, 2012 - 10:23am [Dine in]

We have been to this place a few time before and I was surprised to see that its been updated since (Yes it’s been that long since), anyhow it was about half full but where we wanted to sit was reserved but they said it was ok, I guess they could see we would not be there all night and they would have the table ready in time for the next part – lucky us!
Our server brought us water right away (shock we didn’t even ask for it and this is how it should be in my opinion), we were not sure what we wanted to drink yet but were sure what we wanted to eat so she took our order and came back with some drink suggestions, I took one of her suggestions and it came to the table within a few minutes. Along with the salad for my husband’s entree as normal I pick at it, it was nice and crisp, it was a nice house salad, unlike some with just lettuce, this one had had lettuce, celery, carrot, purple cabbage, and tomato, and a homemade Italian dressing, it was fresh and crisp, it was beautiful and good!
Our server popped back to our table and scooped the plate up when we were done with it before we knew it and before we knew it our dinners where out. I was pleasantly surprised by the portions, and then the taste was really good.
I ordered the Cheese Tortellini Alfredo and it was one of the best I have had since the days of the old Quarto (4th/Burrard), I also eat the veggies off his plate to which were really good, I asked him how his was (I assumed it was good as he sucked it back pretty fast), he said it was good, he had the Veal with Spaghetti to which he said he it was softer then he liked (but he likes it kind of hard so this is a common statement from him, so I should have tried it).
Anyhow this is somewhere I would recommend to anyone and everyone! If you get our server Connie then you are really in great hands!

A Loss of Words... Really...
Submitted Friday, January 13, 2012 - 7:10pm [Dine in]

I wanted to say RUN, but there seem to so many people who like this place, when you read through it seems like the reviews are split.
We live so close to this place and I want to say we don't go here but sometimes there are just no options because iSushi has already closed, when you see the staff in the back alley (taking the trash out and smoking) you wonder “Did they wash their hands”. One of us always has a stomach ache after eating here (another reason why we try not to end up here if we can try).
The sushi and sashimi never tastes fresh therefore it’s never good. I will probably agree with someone else who mentioned it that this could also have something to do with the fact that they use cheap ingredients and poor quality seafood.
One last... this has to do with takeout... I ordered tofu (which is normally good)... you think if you pay for it you would get it in the bag when you leave... we got home and NO it wasn’t in the bag or in any of the containers.
Not a place I recommend to anyone.

A Perfect Birthday
Submitted Friday, January 13, 2012 - 1:40pm [Dine in]

Chilled Signature Platter... WOW!
We went to Coast for my birthday, boy was I surprised! I was swallowed by my comfy chair and the friendly server, and the general comfort of the restaurant.
After a few minutes of looking over the menu my husband suggested we order one of the platters I giggled and thought hum we could be heading to a takeout joint after as this is always the result in new places or shared food for him or both of us being hungry after leaving. Anyhow we order the Chilled Signature Platter which consisted of all kinds of chilled seafood and sushi. When the platter and the plate of sauces and dips arrived on the table I was so surprised by the size it almost took up the entire table with the dry ice and everything I know I had a big grin as I was so shocked by the pure beauty of it. The food was all cooked and then chilled to perfection, it was also enough for both of us that neither one of us needed to hit a drive thru nor a takeout joint before going home.
This is a place I would recommend for any special occasion or nice dinner date :)

Not Impressed WOULD NOT Recommend!
Submitted Friday, January 13, 2012 - 12:46pm [Dine in]

We had never been to this establishment before however we had heard it was good, and had read some good reviews about it, BUT after going I WOULD NOT recommend it!
The ONLY plus is that yes you do get a nice size portion for the value, if the food doesn’t actually take 45 minutes to hit your table. When you are there for lunch and you wait to be seated, then you wait for your order to be taken, then you wait for your food, then it comes and you have to have it packed up because you are now late because you have been there over an hour this is unacceptable for lunch, it might be acceptable to some if you don't have places to be and schedules to keep, or even if it’s the evening.
The staff didn’t seem to care that it was taking so long or that we had somewhere to be, or that we kept asking when it was going to be ready. When it actually got there I had a few bites before we actually got someone to come back and pack it up and a dish I like and have had it at all Thai restaurants we’ve gone to is the Pad Thai Noodles and I have never had any that tasted like this one, it tasted like they used ketchup, there was no peanuts, there was no egg, and there was canned shrimp, it was like they ran out of ingredients and just tried to make it up to put something on someone’s place, it was AWFUL. I can’t say my husband’s dish was any better, if you ordered Pineapple Rice, do you think it would have pineapple in it? Yes it should this one, had raisin’s no pineapple.
My last comments is about the establishment, when it’s cold outside, you should heat your place enough so people don't have to keep their coats on to eat. The tea should also be served HOT not luke warm, and when it’s served you should advise the customers they have to pay for it, or at least we did.
My advice this place isn’t worth recommending to people.

Wonderful Lamb!
Submitted Monday, January 9, 2012 - 1:41pm [Dine in]

After many years of coming to this crazy looking dark place which you would think the food is going to be not so good, or that it was probably once a fish and chips place (these where our comments years ago) and who's idea was it to start serving greek food. I have to admit the visual appeal of this little dark place with its fake flowers on the small tables is really kinda confusing... then you taste the food and you know why they have been there for years!
I always set out with a plan to have something different on the menu as there are so many choices and they always have some great options for specials and also to try something from the desert menu, but I never seem to get there :) I am in love with the Roast Lamb on their menu, even when I have already told myself you ARE trying something else today it never happens, our server comes to the table and I before I know it I have ordered the Roast Lamb (even though I had decided on something different).
The Roast Lamb comes on this plate with rice, potatoes, and veggies not to mention bread and salad, and its piled high. The lamb, is moist and tender and falls apart... did I mention not my husband or I have EVER finished this in one sitting, they have always ended up packing it up for me, him, or both of us! This is how much you get.
This is a hidden gem for the westside and we return frequently.
