After a day at Ambleside beach, my wife and I visited this quaint pub/retaurant in the charming upscale village of Dundarave. With its dark wooden panels, neighbourhood ambiance, and bagpipe music emanating from a wedding party at the back, the restaurant promised a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, our expectations were disappointed. We ordered fish and chips and calamari at $13 and $10 respectively. The fish and chips consisted of three small light-battered pieces of fish about the size of chicken fingers, while the calamari was cold, bland, and rubbery. I could not help but notice that a diner at a neighbouring table had been served three large pieces of dark-battered fish together with about double the fries as my meagre portion. When I pointed this out to Mario, he unconvincingly responded that the fish is gauged by weight, not size. However, he did graciously offer to reduce the bill without us asking, while the server explained that such anomalies occur when the kitchen is particulary busy. Greater consistency of portions and service is in order to make this a reliable eatery.
