good food, excellent dessert, and great service

I went with 3 other friends to try out the dine out menu. We all ordered the lobster bisque, beef short rib, and mousse dessert.

The lobster bisque was pretty tasty and loaded with cream. Not sure if that's a great thing since it was a little overpowering, but I liked it anyways. The presentation of it was really neat too. Though there wasn't actually much actual lobster in the 'lobster' bisque. The beef short rib was cooked nicely and was full of flavour. It came with a side of mashed potatoes (with bits of truffle shavings) and spinach. It was tasty, though not particularly special. The dessert was sooooo good. Layers of cake, mousse, ice cream, and dark chocolate mousse. Definitely was worth it just for that. One of my friends ordered the cheese platter instead. He liked the cheeses and they all had fancy names, which I assume is a good thing.

All in all, the food was good, though I'm not entirely sure it was worth the price since the portions were rather small - at least for the beef short rib entree. Also, somehow the dishes tasted very asian, probably because of the way they made their sauces. I eat a lot of asian food and if I knew beforehand what the dishes would be like, I probably wouldn't have went. Though again, the dessert was excellent.

The service that night was excellent as well. I'm assuming it depends on who's working though, based on the review below mines.

promising new place with great service

As soon as I found out a sushi place was opening near my place, I knew I had to go check it out. I wasn't disappointed.

I've tried several of the rolls - the california and beef teriyaki rolls were especially tasty and the other rolls good too. The takoyaki is kind of small though for the price and mediocre at best. Also they put the sour/sweet japanese salad dressing on the alaska roll. I'm not sure why...but it didn't taste half bad.

I've had great serice as I ordered take-out twice and the waitress remembered me right away the second time I went.

The ambience is cozy, comfortable, and furnished well. I actually feel like I'm in a japanese restaurant.

The only downside is that the price of rolls and combos are a couple dollars more than usual than normal sushi places and they don't include miso soup or drinks as normal combos either.

awesome wings, good value, and great service

I was reading the experiences that other people have had at this place and was surprized as the few times I've been here, I've had a good experience.

The ambience is cactus-club/earls like, but this is place is better because not only the is the food better, but the price as well. I love the wings here as well. Cheaper, bigger, and better than wingnuts when it was actually around. I've had great service the times I've been here as well.

During hockey nights the place dims down, the loud speakers/music turn on and becomes a lot more like a bar, so depending on the experience you're looking for, make sure to check if there is a hockey game the night you're going as it IS really loud during game night. At all other times it isn't though

I honestly have no idea what the posts below me were talking about when they say the waitresses are scandily dressed. They look perfectly fine to me - better than earls and cactus club if you ask me. Cactus club girls are not classy, I don't care what anyone says, they're just not. I've also gotten GREAT service from the new waitresses, however, when i get the old ones serving me then not so much.

I've been a couple of times since they renovanted the place and i really love what they've done with it. There are framed comic book pages, cd covers and artwork adorned on the walls, and some awesome quirky neon signs around. The place was never really 'authentic' japanese as the owners were vietnamnese, so I find that this ambience matches the place more.

The menu has changed a bit and the prices have gone up just a bit, but I find the food to be the same, however with clean dishes, cups, plates though, which is so much better.

They also have a cheap dessert menu which personally makes me very happy. I love cheesecake.

I suggest going back to check it out to see the changes and decide for yourself whether you like it or not.

Great Food and good service

I'm really surprized there's so many people saying there's bad service to this place, but maybe I just got lucky. I went there just the other night and I had great service. We sat down and the servers brought our menu. When we ordered the waitress was really nice and brought our bill at just the right time and split our bill with no problem or hassle at all. Our food came quickly as well. I ordered the caramel crepe and it was pretty good. My friend had something with tuna in it - it was even better. We also ordered a plate of fries and it was only $4. Fries were good and fresh too.

But, a can of pop was $2 and crepes were expensive, yes, but I expected that for cafe crepe. On the otherhand, if there's any other place anyone knows to get a really good crepe, let me know, cause the best crepes I've had were always at cafe crepe.

Cheap, Good, Okonomiyaki
Submitted Thursday, November 19, 2009 - 6:26pm [Dine in]

I've been to this place to eat-in once around the time it opened, but from time to time I go back and order things out. I love the okonomiyaki - really good. I have to say that it's the only okonomiyaki I've eaten, but still. The ramen is not too expensive, but you can definately get more bang for your buck at different ramen places - cause the bowls are kind of small and there's not a lot of ingredients to it. Sushi sucks - the california roll has too much mayo and I do not understand having a salmon avacado roll - it doesn't taste very good at all. Salmon was not all that fresh either. The rice was not rolled tightly enough. The gyoza is small, but pretty good actually. That's all I've tried here. Great service though!! I'm always greeted with a smile and leave with them smiling.

Beefy Beef Noodle House4063 Main Street, Vancouver
HUGE drink menu and great desserts
Submitted Friday, September 4, 2009 - 2:20am [Dine in]

Discovered this place when my bf brought me there. The red sign as well as the name of the restaurant completely misleads you into thinking it's some vietnamnese pho place. It's actually a taiwanese drink/food place. Mostly drinks =)

I mostly come to this place because it's open late and they have a massive drink and dessert menu. most of the drinks are refereshing, sweet, and tasty. Bubble tea is so-so, but everything else is good. The shaved ice is awesome! Though it makes you cold after a while.

The salty peppery chicken - their specialty is really good. However, a bit too salty for some - so you might want to order the meal which comes with rice. I tried the shredded chicken fried noodle which was decent and worth the price. My friend had a fish dish she liked. Though my other friend had this beef stir fry dish which had like 3 pieces of meat and everything else green onion and onion.

All in all a great place to hang out as the decor is really nice and the service is pretty good. Though the food is only so-so, the drinks are great.

Great value for good food

Recommended by friends. Ordered dynamite combo with scallop roll. Staff was kind enough to inform me that I had ordered too much food, which was true. Dynamite combo came iwth dynamite roll, california roll, and spicy tuna roll, though I replaced my spicy tuna with tamago. California was great - shredded properly, dynmaite was fine, tamago was decent. Scallop was good too. Rolls were HUGE. It is nearly impossible to eat more than 2 rolls. I ordered four, which was WAY too much.

Bubble tea surpizingly good and fresh as well for a decent price. Usually places that have food and bubble tea often don't make good bubble tea.

Great service as well, we stayed for a long time just sitting there and they didn't mind at all. Definately a place to go back to!
