This place is great with friends and family. Me and a party of 4 went out to celebrate a birthday a few days ago. We were driving down granville and saw a restaurant with a huge red door (get it?) and decided to check it out. Someone had left their parking spot so we sniped it. Looked at the parking meter and there was still an hour fresh... Score.
We didn't have reservations and I asked the maitre d' if that would be a problem as the place looked quite full. She said not a problem at all, and as luck had it, there were seats available for us as a party canceled their reservations, otherwise it would have been a 10-15 minute wait. Score.
The menu is pretty limited but that's okay-- the food more than makes up for it. The food?... Oh the food.. The person serving us recommended the shaking beef and spicy hokkien noodles. both fantastic. We ended up having the shaking beef, hokkien noodles, some scallops, sweet chili chicken and kung pao chicken... All were fantastic. The shaking beef was so juicy and it being served in a huge leaf was pretty cool. the hokkien noodles could have used a tad more spice, otherwise fine selections. Didn't have to wait too long for our food to arrive... maybe 10 minutes and everything was pretty much rushed over. A nice selection of drinks to choose from-- the bellinis are... Awesome. They're sweet and you can barely notice it has alcohol (Don't go overboard! but I think their bar has a mercy rule at some point. One of our mates already had 4 bellinis and the guy serving us was joking around how he likes his bellinis. I asked if anyone ever ordered enough for them to put a stop. He explained that, no, no one has ever gone overboard. Our mate was close, but he decided he had enough. We were mildly disappointed. But I digress). I love my beer so I headed straight for the "tail ale" which I think is a granville island pale ale, but it doesnt really matter
We were a little put off by the bill (almost $220), but we were in total awe of how much food was still left over, so that's understandable. I asked if I could have it all to go and they packed it up for us (I ended up with the left over shaking beef for lunch the next day. Score). The place overall feels very comfortable; not too crowded, and the staff are friendly. Definitely a good place to stop by before or after an event. Would definitely return again for maybe a Christmas dinner (who doesnt like a bellini during the holidays?)
