We regularly go to Ya-Ya's and have never been disappointed with the food or service. This is more like a restaurant/pub with a very good menu - a sort of classy pub menu if you like - but with one BIG difference - consistently good oysters - cooked or raw. My fav is the 6 diffent cooked oyster dish with a delicious spinach salad. My wife really likes the fish & chips - way better than Troll's and much better ambiance
Surprisingly I have been here more than once & every time I swear never to come back but with a crowd I don't always get to choose!! Troll's has to be one of the most over-rated restaurants in the lower mainland. It's signature fish & chips is okay but over-priced - please don't try anything else on the menu here. Service is poor and ambiance non-existant
Do yourself a favour and walk one block west to YA-YA's Oyster Bar which is infinitely better value
Have been here many times and always enjoy good food, great service and ambiance. I hesitate to give 5*'s because that has an 'incredible' descriptor which is a bar almost impossible for any restaurant to reach. However the 4* descriptor is outstanding and I would say that Horsehoe Bay Boathouse certainly measures up in every respect
Incedible:
1. So implausible as to ellicit dibelief
2. Astonishing
So 4*'s it is - outstanding!
This was our second visit after an overall positive (it would have been great but for several mistakes by our server) first visit. Why do restaurants almost universally choose the same 5 desserts - tiramasu, chocolate cake, creme brulee, ice cream/sorbet & usually cheesecake? Give us some variety please! The service was poor. The place was packed & there were not enough servers but that is no excuse for not refilling water glasses for the whole service plus we had to get cream & sugar for our coffees from another table. For the price the service should have been much more attentive
