I discovered La Regalade about 6 years ago and it’s still at the top of my list for favourite restaurants in the lower mainland. My husband and I went there for our first wedding anniversary and it has become a tradition.
It’s a quaint, little neighbourhood restaurant in West Vancouver, very unassuming but worth the drive.
If you are seeking a pompous French restaurant where the Sommelier makes you feel ignorant and you get a tiny cube of overpriced foie gras… this is the wrong place for you!
The owners run the restaurant; wife front of house and husband is the chef. The service is messy and sometimes slow (very southern French) so relax, take it as part of the experience, this restaurant is about the food not the silverware of proper by the book French style-service. It’s a casual family run French bistro!!!
My god the food! From the moment you walk in, it smells so good! I’ve had just about every dish in their dinner menu and love them all.
A must-try classic is the duck and of course the beef bourguignon. Don’t bother with the appetizers; the main dishes are so big and rich that an appetizer will only ruin the dessert.
You must save some room for dessert they are amazing!
Recently they’ve opened a bistro on 4th in Kits and the breakfast there is amazing – go check it out.
Don’t be deceived buy bad reviews; someone is bound to have a bad experience here and there. After six years, this is still one of my top favourite restaurants… try it out.

If you are tired to the typical Vancouver trendy restaurant with long rectangular plates with, tiny portions of the French Asian fusion and snobbish service..... Well go to the Reef! it is very original.
Ambiance - the decorations are great it feels like you’re in hut in the Caribbean. Very laid back, music is great it keeps everyone sort of dancing on their seats.
Drinks - are amazing pitchers of very good mojitos for only $14
Food - very good, instead of bread you get Johnny Cakes (a deep friend bread) oh soooo good with mango butter. Yes! Mango butter.
There is something on the menu for every taste and if you like it SPICY just ask for hot sauce and you will get the most incredible habanero/papaya hot sauce that will clear your sinuses for sure.
Like any place if you have never been there it could go wrong if you don't know what to order, so I recommend:
Yam fries to start and share, the mahi mahi as main coarse and for dessert the coconut ice cream served in a half coconut.

Subeez has been with out doubt my favorite places. I HAD a saying; "When in doubt go to Subeez" for dinner or for drinks and appies.
We had a huge farewell party for a co-worker there (just drinks and appies) it was a HUGE success! no doubt about it. A week after i went for dinner and the food was horrible! i don't know if the chef was sick or what but it was awful. But i ate and acted like a good understanding patron. There is always dessert to look forward to. SO when it came time for ordering my favorite - Tiramisu they were sold out.
I hope it was just a busy weekend with an absent chef and they are not compromising the quality.

Outside Trees on Grancille St. they have a sign "The best cheesecake in Vancouver" I am not crazy about cheesecakes but I had to try this one. Well the sign is absolutely right! THEY HAVE THE BEST CHEESECAKE EVER! The slice is huge and decorated with chocolate, caramel sauce & tons of whipping cream, AMAZING!
First time in this cafe and it is absolutely fantastic, the atmosphere is great and they also have amazing coffee; organic and fair-trade. The coffee is roasted inside the cafe in a cool antique looking roaster. I only had the cheesecake and a latte but their paistries looked yummy! The sandwiches were sold out so I asume they are very good too.
I will defenitaly make this my new favourite coffee shop, who would've thought that in downtown you could find such cool place. They are very busy so the line up was a bit long - let me tell you...It is worth the wait and the staff is very friendly. Definately recomend this place!
