Great Food from the Original Menu
Submitted Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 12:37am [Dine in]

The original menu is great, especially the seafood ones. Sushi menu is not so special. Sushi's still good, but not great.

The yaki onigiri is a bit hard. I like Benkei's onigiri more. Kakiage Don and Chicken Locomoco Don also good. Recommended original dishes: Garlic Tuna Tataki, Shrimp Imperial, and G & G Snapper.

Good ambiance, clean washroom. Decent priced.

Good food, bad ambiance
Submitted Monday, May 19, 2008 - 12:04am [Dine in]

Good food, bad place/ambiance. The place is usually overcrowded, and there isn't much space around. Basically you go there for the food and food alone.

I rather liked their Richmond shop more. Sometimes the ramen isn't as good as the Denman one, but there was more room, and it looks a lot cleaner. Too bad they closed that one.

Ever since Benkei was opened, I've only been back to Kintaro once.

One of the Best in Vancouver
Submitted Sunday, May 18, 2008 - 11:54pm [Dine in]

One of the best sushi restaurants in Vancouver. Lots of great food. Often very crowded in the weekends, it's best to make a reservation first.

You can order a good range of sushi, even some rare/exotic fish. These fish are usually imported, so the availability will depends on the stock and season. Some of them are: Shima Aji (Yellowjack), Suzuki (Japanese Sea Bass), Katsuo (Bonito), Tai (Red Snapper), and more.

My fav non-sushi food here would be the Ika Geso.

Decent food for decent price. Don't expect to find outstanding sushi here.

Used to go here a lot when I was studying at Douglas College, only because it's close and cheap. I think after that, I've only went once through friends' invitation. Even after the name change (Kirin -> Ki), the menu quality didn't improve. It's still cheap though...

Great hamburger steak
Submitted Sunday, May 18, 2008 - 2:15pm [Dine in]

Only had the hamburger steak and soup last time, but they were great.

The restaurant only opens a couple of hours for lunch, and a few hours for dinner. It's also closed on Sundays. Sometimes this is quite inconvenient. I've been to Denman street a few times, hoping to eat there only to find that it's closed.

Inconsistent

The ramen tastes differently each time I go (went 4 times so far). Sometimes the soup is thicker and saltier, other times quite bland. When you're lucky, you'll get good cut of the pork, when you're not, the pork is hard. The egg is soft boiled and tastes really good.

When it's good, it tastes better than Kintaro and Motomachi. When it's not, it's sub-par to the 2 other nearby ramen restaurants.
