Place has gone downhill
Submitted Saturday, June 12, 2010 - 8:23pm [Dine in]

My DH and I came here every 6 weeks when it first opened 'cause we get our haircuts in the neighborhood.

At first, the deep fried chicken nuggets were generous portions and even the noodle soup was huge.

Later, the portions got smaller.

Today we went for lunch and it was a poor experience.

I ordered a Ground Pork Meat Sauce and a Sesame Chocolate Milk Tea, no pearls.

My DH ordred a Beef satay with noodles.

My drink came and the sesame powder was sitting on top of the drink. Why wasn't it mixed into the drink ?

My DH wasn't given any free tea or water.

The food was ok.

When we finished our meal and my drink, the server cleared the table of everything except my empty drink mug.

Then we sat there waiting for the bill.

The server was just standing around.

So we finally had to ask for it. ( this is one thing I don't understand. When you've finished your meal in a restaurant and you have to ask for the bill; you don't automatically get it )

My DH was so furious, he left her 20 cents.

I don't think we'll ever go back there again.

( Here's a recommendation for restaurants: instead of cutting the portions; raise your prices by 25 cents each year )

Don't order Stone Pot
Submitted Sunday, March 1, 2009 - 5:52pm [Dine in]

This month's special is the Stone Pot for $ 7.99
Basically, they bake your food in a stone pot.
It's like cooking your food on an iron plate.
There is very little rice & our rice seemed more burnt than the table on our left.
I had the bbq eel & my DH had the pork chop.
It also comes with a drink.
The portion was more like a snack instead of a meal.

Authentic Food
Submitted Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 10:38am [Dine in]

I live around the corner from this place & have eaten here twice.

It's Authentic Chinese food at good prices.

Problem is, they have forks on the table.

I told the waitress that their food is good but having forks on the table deters many people from coming in here.

The place is never full.

Mostly take-out business & people who are comfortable eating with forks.

They do have chopsticks & bowls but you have to request it.

Refreshing Thai
Submitted Tuesday, January 2, 2007 - 1:09am [Dine in]

I had dinner here with a Georgia Straight coupon.

Dinner entrees start at $ 12. They also have combo menus for 4, 6 & 8 people. They have several soups including Tom Yum. Rice dishes, noodles, pad thai 2 ways, curries: red, green, yellow.
You can choose to have your entrees with beef, chicken, pork, vegetarian or ostrich. They also have several desserts.

I also had lunch here. Their weekday lunch special is from 11 am to 3 pm. There are about half a dozen entrees to choose from. Each entree comes with a vegetarian spring roll (so flaky) & soup.

The lunch special is only $ 6.99 ! Unbelievable value !

They have been very busy since opening in December.

We had a New Year's Eve 3 course dinner.

Starter: Shrimp & Crab Cake with Red Pepper & Wasabi Mayonnaise OR Sauteed Duck Breast on Mescalun salad with Whit e Truffle Oil Vinagrette

Main Course: Roast Prime Rib of Beef Au Jus with Yorkshire Pudding, Baked Potato & Green Beans OR Scallop & Tiger Shrimp in Ginger Cream Sauce served with rice cake & broccolini

Dessert: Chocolate Pate with Raspberry Coulis OR Creme Brulee

Coffee or Tea

REVIEW: The crab cake had lots of crab. There were 5 thick slices of duck breast. The prime rib was huge. The Yorkshire Pudding was very flaky.

The Japanese Chef is Mr. Masa Nagumo.

On the regular lunch menu, they have pasta, pizza, burgers, family style entrees starting from $ 12

On the regular dinner menu, they have salmon, steaks, pasta, family style entrees starting from $ 15

We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Compliments to the chef !

Stormy Weather Menu
Submitted Monday, November 20, 2006 - 10:35pm [Dine in]

We came here on a Monday night for the Stormy Weather 3 course set dinner.

For $ 29.95, there's a choice of Butternut Squash soup (which was excellent) or Spinach Salad, followed by Surf n Turf (steak & 4 prawns) steak was excellent, Risotto with 9 Prawns & Chorizo sausage, Pacific Ling Cod or Stuffed Chicken Breast.
Dessert was a sampler of 3 flavours of creme brulee (but we could only make out 2 flavours: coffee & vanilla). My friend liked it but I thought it was just ok.

There were 4 tables including ours and one server.

He brought us the soup & said he'd be back with the bread but it wasn't until much later & by that time, we'd finish the soup.

We ordered tea & he forgot to bring the milk.

Don't order tea at this place. They keep the water in coffee carafes. The water is not hot and it tastes like coffee.

Finally, I told him that the water wasn't hot at all & he went to the espresso machine to get hot water. The water cooled down quickly.

The risotto came smothered in shredded cheese which made the dish very salty and it had artichokes in it which added a sour taste.

Lotsa Topping Pizza
Submitted Monday, November 20, 2006 - 10:21pm [Dine in]

We tried this restaurant because we had an Entertainment coupon.

The pizzas range from $ 8.99 mini-pizza to $ 24.99 large pizza.
We thought we would have leftovers for 3 days but the two of us finished off the pizza.

The pizza crust is the star, thin & firm enough to hold up all the toppings. The toppings are fresh & there's lots of it.

In addition to the usual beverages, they also have Jones Soda and Barq's Root Beer.

I would come here again.
