As many reviewers have noticed, the Honey's experience is sometimes better than others!!! It's true, the owners / servers get a bit frazzled when it gets busy. But it gets REALLY busy! So it's kind of understandable. And having worked at a restaurant myself, I can relate to their frustration when someone has been standing in a huge line and STILL hasn't made up their mind by the time they get to the front! And you just want to serve them fast and get to the next person in line and they stand there like, "Oh, um, I think, uh...".
But, it's actually BEST to go to Honey's when there's a line, because that means the donuts will be hot & fresh. DO NOT get the kind dipped in chocolate or whatever - they are not as fresh!! Do the math, people. Honey's donuts are fantastic, but only for about 15 minutes. After that, they cool off, and are a bit not-so-great. BUT if you buy them when they're cool and take them home, put them in the oven @ 250 for about 10 mins and then pour honey or maple syrup over them, you can re-create the Honey's amazingness. So here's the thing: put up with the lineup, it means you'll be getting hot fresh donuts. Buy PLAIN donuts, the dipped are not as good. Buy extra to take home. Buy 6, then there's no GST (at least 'til that darn HST comes in...). When you've eaten your fill, take the rest home for your pals but heat them up first as described before you eat 'em! Otherwise yeah they're oily & kinda too much. But warm with honey or maple syrup, oh my. Mmm mmm mm. Heading to Honey's right now, in fact! Go with forethought and you won't be disappointed :)
