Good experience - will go back
Submitted Wednesday, August 20, 2008 - 3:23pm [Dine in]

Went for lunch with my friend on Tuesday. The hostess was friendly and our server came to our table quickly - she was great. Ordered the calamari and tuna tartar to share at first. Timing was good - our drinks (sparkling water) came fast. The tuna tartar was remarkable - we were in awe. The calamari was not good - the texture was the best thing about it and we kept eating it almost in hopes that the next bite will be better than the one before? Loved the idea of a pan seared calamari with capers and tomatoes - what a nice idea but it didn't work for some reason - too salty and calamari was fishy.
Our mains were the chicken club (I believe) for my friend and the special grilled salmon sandwich - both really good. My friend had fries and I had the salad (so good!) with our sandwiches.
Service was prompt - the ambiance was great. Prices good.
But... what's the deal with the male waiters wearing shorts? I'd say it felt a little tooooooo casual for me...
I will be back though and I might even give the calamari another try because it was an "off" day...

Fantastic experience - will be back soon!
Submitted Tuesday, July 29, 2008 - 1:21am [Dine in]

Word of mouth brought me and my friend to East Grill - and I agree, it is a great place!

We had a chance to chat with the general manager and he clearly has a good vision for the place - so it sounds like the restaurant is in good hands. He also was our server and was attentive, real (none of the b.s. small talk you often encounter at some of the nearby popular chains) and sharp.

The food was amazing. Started with the fried sushi roll (not sure if this is what it's called, I forget) but it was prawn and crab sushi with a light batter and fried - OMG yummy! I tried the Shumai, very tasty and presented wonderfully. Then we had two more appys. The gyoza - enjoyable, and the tom kha kai soup, which was exactly how I was hoping it to be and more (and again, the presentation - fantastic). We then shared the black cod dish. The fish was cooked to perfection and the plate was arranged well and was very flavourful.
We got so stuffed but still wanted to try that Tiramisu Cheesecake that caught our eye on the menu. It was INHALED in seconds.

We were so pleased with the experience and got the "cherry on top" with our bill. All that food, with a pear cider and a large pellegrino was under $70!!!!! I found that to be amazing value for the quality of food, service and ambiance.

So pleased to have another good spot to enjoy in North Vancouver - and one that is open late!

Pesto Pizza always fantastic
Submitted Saturday, June 14, 2008 - 2:07am [Dine in]

Truly a quality pizza - I usually stick to the Pesto pizza because it's so amazing - I have tried other pizzas too (also very good). Tried a sauteed prawn appetizer and it was REALLY GOOD...

Sure the ambiance hasn't changed much over the years but I love the mellow atmosphere when going for a late dinner and it's the best atmosphere I've ever found in a pizza place.

And for the best kept secret: Their Tiramisu is AMAZING. In fact it's the best tiramisu I've ever had.

It's expensive, no question about it but I always enjoy myself - I don't mind paying extra for good quality food and really good pizza is hard to find these days - sadly.

Attentive staff, friendly service, excellent food
Submitted Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - 8:21pm [Dine in]

Five of us went for lunch and everybody was very pleased with their food. I had the mixed green salad and was blown away with all the ingredients - it was colourful, tasty and a generous portion. One of my friends had the mini burgers as her entree and aside from being the cutest looking burger plate ever, she noted that they were very tasty. Two others had the seafood chowder and just about licked their bowls clean. My other friend had a sandwich with green salad and was very pleased.
The service was great - our server was very friendly, checked on us frequently (but not overbearing in any way), had a big smile on her face and just did everything right.
The ambiance was clean and comfortable.
I'll be back.

Good server - good experience
Submitted Saturday, May 17, 2008 - 4:23am [Dine in]

Having dined at Denny's since my earlier party days (afterall this place IS the hangover cure for North Vancouverites) I know exactly what to expect. Reliable breakfast dishes, average food presentation, a good cup of coffee. Good service is not on my list of expectations here anymore - though very much appreciated when found. The main reason for my review is to mention the particularly attentive server we had tonight. She was very friendly, accommodating to substitution requests, checked on us to see if we were enjoying our meals, was observant and professional. This is not a common sight at a Denny's restaurant. Food was not bad either - met our expectations. But its that smiling face that gives that much more incentive to go back again.

Decent food & prices
Submitted Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - 8:04pm [Dine in]

This place is simple but will offer a satisfying meal - not the best choice if you are looking for ambiance and a memorable dining experience. The place looks more like a diner and the service is casual. Our server was very friendly, not necessarily very professional in her serving skills but she had personality and a sense of humour.
We enjoyed the food and considering the low prices (lunch) I think the portions were quite generous. Might go back for a quick meal if in the area - but being a resident of North Vancouver - we have several good persian choices here that I would prefer...

After 15 years of giving my business I'm sorry to say I'VE HAD IT
Submitted Thursday, February 28, 2008 - 11:34pm [Dine in]

I love the pizza at Andreas and despite the warnings I've received about the ingredients and questionable cooking methods I still stuck to it and kept ordering from there. For one I knew I wouldn't have to wait too long for my pizza (as I would have to if I ordered from my all time favourite pizza place down the street) and I knew that my pizza would be exactly the way I've been ordering it for the past 15 years.
I can't say I've ever had GOOD service from there but I've accepted the fact that this isn't the place to expect much in that department. Well last week I HAD IT. How can a simple take out order be such an inconvenience for the server? I simply had to make a note for the delivery driver so that they don't go to the wrong address by accident. Well I got HUGE attitude on the phone because I was "adding information" to my order. I actually snapped back to ensure that the information was noted (quietly praying that my pizza didn't get spit on). My delivery driver was the sweetest man ever but man oh man I don't think I can take this attitude any more.

Awesome service - large portions - clean place - efficient and very very friendly. If they keep this up they'll become the busiest lunch place in the 3rd and Lonsdale area. Good job guys!
I have been two days in a row this week and have tried some of my usual items and some new items - very impressed.

my new favourite restaurant in North Van
Submitted Monday, October 29, 2007 - 5:46pm [Dine in]

I love this place. Always have the steak and for someone that never orders fries I must say I absolutely LOVE the fries that are served with the steak. The crabcakes are the best I've ever had. They are very knowledgeable with their wines and the ambiance is great. I like that they close late since it's the only time I can usually dine. North Van needs more places that stay open late during the week for the rest of us that work in restaurants too hehehehe :). I'll be back - very soon!

Bad service, watch the parking lot
Submitted Monday, October 29, 2007 - 5:38pm [Dine in]

First impression - we go into the parking lot and most cars had just had their windows smashed in. The poor hostess was sweeping up the glass! We moved the car out front. Perhaps they were understaffed - if that is the case I understand why it was difficult for the waiter to attend to the table efficiently, but if it was that busy you would expect the staff to be moving at a faster pace. We talked to a manager to get some order requests in (couldn't see our waiter - he seemed flustered when we did see him) after that it seemed like the restaurant got slammed and the staff just couldn't keep up. Felt like it was a management issue with staffing... otherwise I think the place would have been fine... the food was decent but nothing to return for. Sad to say that I wouldn't be inclined to go back, but I always give a place a second chance... maybe it was a bad night.

I loved it!
Submitted Tuesday, January 9, 2007 - 1:32pm [Dine in]

I couldn't tell you anything about the authenticity of the food, but all I know is that I was in bliss in there. The atmosphere is very cozy, the people friendly and the servers attentive. It was Thursday night with a buffet - the food was great (and again, authentic? I have no clue - my taste buds were loving it though), enjoyed my cup of chai (I like how they give you a mini cup of chai when you come in - a nice welcoming gesture - it was so good I ordered a big cup too). The flamenco performance was great. The price - well sure it's pricey, but for anybody that buys organic groceries for your home, you will know how expensive it is - I bet their profit margin is nowhere near other restaurants AND they bring in live performances - the $5 cover wouldn't even pay for the band's dinner. So all in all - I had none of the issues that the previous reviewers had and was MORE than satisfied with my experience.

Ah! they have new cutlery!
Submitted Friday, December 22, 2006 - 6:54pm [Dine in]

Perhaps my ratings are considered biased as I do work at Pasparos - and although I can justify my high ratings, I do not wish to seem like I am promoting or advertising Pasparos.
One thing I can say from an insider point of view is that they listen to their customers' opinions and take them into serious consideration. The cutlery issue mentioned - so true - not the nicest cutlery in the food industry! Pasparos read this review, agreed that it was time to do something about it, and now have new shiny and attractive cutlery... sometimes all it takes is the right person to say the right thing at the right time. :) This website is great!
