Comfort is okay but it was just stew...
Submitted Sunday, December 7, 2008 - 11:55pm [Dine in]

I deicded to try Burgoo....I thought it must be good if the wait is always a good half hour or more! Needless to say we went there on a weeknight and waited just under 1 hour. People kept pouring in.

My friends and I ordered a variety of stews....the description on the menu sounded good. However, they were all a little bland...just a stew but nothing special. I said to my friend, "But mom makes better stew". She agreed! The stews her mom made were tastier. I think if you went to and Indian restaurant or Hungarian restaurant etc. you'll get the more authentic stew.

Of the 4 different stews we all ordered, none of them were stellar. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to friends as a "You gotta try it". but perhaps I'd give it another try and order mac & cheese??? And I'll try to go at 5pm to avoid the wait.

Good rolls for on the go!
Submitted Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - 2:25am [Dine in]

I never would've walked into this tiny little "store" except that a friend recommended it. The sushi is all lined up ready to go and I was surprised to be charged $3.00/roll. Seemed a bit pricey but I really enjoyed the rolls! The roll is surprisingly heavy and really well made. You could totally eat this on the go, while walking back to work, in your car etc. in a hurry. I think they try to pack a good $3.00 of sushi in the roll. I especially liked the spicy tuna roll and would order it again.

Thank you to the to other reviews who told me about the toonie roll after 4pm (or 4:30pm?). That is definitely a good value deal...

Decent Thai Food and a bit different tase from Thai House.
We tried this restaurant because it's in the new Entertainment Book and I'd go back. The restaurant is fairly small but a nice atmosphere. It was busy but the service was fast and friendly. Food arrived quickly and very hot. Portions were medium size but tasty.

Fish okay but rest good!
Submitted Saturday, October 11, 2008 - 2:11pm [Dine in]

Agree with other reviews...tried the Fish & Chips finally but was not any better than other Fish & Chips. Big portion but the Chips were NOT good. Hard, cold, and not tasty.

However, have tried the Albacore Tuna Sandwhich, Fish Tacos and Oyster Sandwich...all very good. Too bad there's nowhere to sit.

Agreed; not fresh fish!
Submitted Thursday, August 28, 2008 - 1:43am [Dine in]

The value rating of course is a 4/5 as you can't really go wrong with prices on Japanese sushi from most casual Japanese restaurants. However, I went there recently and it was quite warm outside. However, it was so hot inside there I don't know how the patrons could possibly sit in there. It was like a sauna. Perhaps that is why my sushi wasn't fresh. The other rolls were standard fare decent but my California Roll had that "fishy" odour. Fish should not smell "fishy" and I couldn't finish it and had to throw it out. I didn't feel well the next day. I'm sure the air con was broken that day but the restaurant should be able to figure out whether leaving fish out in a hot environment will be bad or not. I never thought of that when I ordered it.

I'm sure it's not always like that but I was kinda turned off and won't go back.

So different from the Bby location!
Submitted Thursday, August 28, 2008 - 1:32am [Dine in]

I've always liked Milestones in Burnaby and have also tried other locations. Food is good, good portions, okay prices. Of course the spinach and artichoke is always good (although the price is about $10.00 but still worth it as a share). However, I wouldn't bother to go back to the Kits location. Didn't care for the cool (i.e. not warm & inviting) atmosphere that is quite different; trying to look hip and trendy. Also, several of us orderd the lamb (tasty but we only got 2 smallish pieces).

Well the real complaint was that one in our group was a child (10 yrs old) and the chef only gave her 1 piece!! She piped and said, "Excuse me, why did I only get 1 piece and they got 2?). The waiter said "I don't know but maybe it's by weight". Come on now....do you think we're stupid? Of course she got only 1 because she's a kid; However they don't charge half price or give a kid's price. The waiter came back and apologized and said he didn't know how it got missed and they cooked her another piece and brought it out. She ate it all as she has a good appetite.

Don't try to rip us off. Oh well, we won't go back to that location.

Good vegetarian sushi!
Submitted Thursday, August 28, 2008 - 1:22am [Dine in]

There's usually not much choice for vegetarians when it comes to Japanese food. However, their avocado roll is the best you'll ever have. Not only is there avocado inside, there is a layer on the outside as well. If you love avocado, order this roll! Also good to try is the kappa roll with avocado and the vegetarian roll which is like the avocado roll but with thinly cut purple (beets?). Very nice.
The sushi makers are very polite but last time I was there the girl accidentally overcharged me by $4.00.

Tasty and Unique
Submitted Thursday, August 28, 2008 - 1:18am [Dine in]

Great food if you're looking for something Asian but different from your standard Thai, Chinese or Japanese fare. Good portions, decent prices.
Recommend: butter beef, lemon-pepper chicken (the best part is the taste of the lemon-pepper marinade to dip the chicken in), hot & sour soup.
Proof that it's good?? Absolutely busy 7 nights a week so best to make reservations :)

O Thai Cuisine Restaurant1626 West Broadway, Vancouver
pretty good Thai food
Submitted Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 8:37pm [Dine in]

I've never really had BAD Thai food...and at this place the food was tasty. I tried that Bak Mawk which was good but a small portion. The other dishes were typical medium-small Thai dishes (like most other Thai restaurants). Ambience is quite nice there, kind of upscale looking and trendy. I noticed that some of the menu prices were quite high for Thai ($25+) but there were also several $10ish ones which we ordered. Food could have been hotter but I liked the fact that it wasn't just a bit of meat floating in tons of curry sauce. It was better than Thai House.

tasty enough but expensive
Submitted Saturday, February 3, 2007 - 9:58pm [Dine in]

the food was decent....but the servings were quite small. The place is crowded, dark, and noisy -- not a very nice atmosphere. I've definitely had better Asian-fusion before but really; beware of Asian fusion. It's neither here nor there. I wouldn't go back here.

Great Sunday Brunch
Submitted Saturday, February 3, 2007 - 8:39pm [Dine in]

For value, you won't find any better Sunday Brunch (except maybe Vegas). Besides the usual brunch stuff (eggs benedict, bacon, sausage, waffles etc.) they had a great clam chowder soup, salad bar, other hot items and dessert, coffee, and orange juice for 1 low price. I went to IHOP and after having 1 plate of food and expensive coffee, I was still hungry and you only get 1 choice and no juice, salad, soup nor dessert is included with your meal. Ambience is just casual but this place is 1/2 price of the hotels and worth the price. Sunday brunch is very busy here!

Best fajitas so far
Submitted Saturday, February 3, 2007 - 8:28pm [Dine in]

Great Mexican restaurant in North Van. Nice cozy atmosphere. The fajitas are my favorite. The fajita filling comes sizzling hot with a great lime juice (I think) flavor somehow in the oil. I can't explain it but you have to try it.

Always Good Food
Submitted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 8:11pm [Dine in]

I've been to Milestones in Bby numerous times and it's always a favorite with friends and family. I like this location because the ambience is nice, service is always good, there's lots of parking and it's not too loud and dark like Cactus Club et al. I find the Artichoke Dip pricey but it's still worth it if you're sharing it with others. It's still the best one out there and I've tried it at all different restaurants.

move over Thai House
Submitted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 8:06pm [Dine in]

I always used to like Thai House but find that the meals are small for the prices they charge. I was introduced to Papaya Hut which is practically next door and this hidden place is great! It is always busy and the food is tasty. I like the curry chicken with pineapple, eggplant dishes....if you like Thai House on Burrard then give this little place a try and compare.

try the Awesome Roll
Submitted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 8:01pm [Dine in]

I didn't know this place existed but had always heard of/gone to Sushi Garden near Metrotown. It's right of Capitol Hill Highschool in Bby. On ANY night of the week it is full with tables reserved so either order ahead for take-out or reserve. For some reason, their specialty rolls aren't on the take out menu..... but Great sushi, big portions, fresh, decent prices. Try the Awesome Roll - it's a meal in itself. Yes, I agree with other reviews that service of the waitresses are lacking. They are obviously busy with several sushi chef rolling continuously but the girls don't make eye contact with you.

decent sushi slow service
Submitted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 7:54pm [Dine in]

This place is okay for takeout or if you enjoy listening to sushi. They have some neat sushi with black rice and flax if you're into that kind of thing. Unfortunately, the chef is the only one making the sushi so if you don't order ahead you'll wait a long time. It's busy around dinner hour because it's small.

Submitted Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 2:01am [Dine in]

Excellent food and large portions -- unusual for a fine dining restuarant. I could not finish the rack of lamb cooked absolutely to perfection. The ambience is wonderful; great place to book a private function. The only downside is parking of course so use the valet. This restaurant is worth the price.

Great food - decent price
Submitted Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 1:57am [Dine in]

Yes, it sure looks like Whitespot inside but the food is very good especially when you include the dessert buffet with it. Using the Entertainment Coupon makes it even more worthwhile for the price. You can go casual or dressy -- it's cosier to reserve a table near the window. The service there has always been excellent!

I was very disappointed with CRU, mainly because we waited WELL over an hour for our food to arrive and the meal was small for the price we paid. I have to admit it was tasty enough but I wouldn't go back...

Great Burger!
Submitted Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 1:47am [Dine in]

My friends and I heard that Vera's was good so we checked it out. Bright clean place with picnic tables. I am very surprised to see all the negative comments but perhaps it's what burger you order! There was so much choice so I ordered the special of the month which was a Thai burger with beef patty, sweet Thai chili sauce, bacon, cheese......it was so good! My other 3 friends enjoyed their burgers as well -- I'd go back and bring others there too.
