Five Star Food, Flawless Technique, Favorite Date Night Spot
This restaurant has become a date night favorite, the place we sneak out to once the baby’s asleep & us time begins. Need to celebrate? Go to Firehall. Out of town guest? Firehall. Father’s Day for a Foodie Father – Firehall.
Firehall Bistro is that restaurant everyone wishes they had close to their home, but it never really exists. A candle on every table, gentle music, and sophisticated food on a shoestring budget.
Think first catch of the season halibut pan seared atop a crab & fresh English pea risotto. Or homemade linguini with local soft shell rock lobster tail. Onion & gruyere tart with a pear/nut salad. Or butternut squash bisque with crab vignettes. Their 28 day aged rib eye will certainly make your mouth water.
The food is refined, but honest. Each plate while complex, is sincere and rustic.
The Chef/Owner is gifted when it comes to pairing, creating, and giving you an experience you will return for again & again.
We lived above Rodneys for nearly two years. You couldn't be more in the heart of yaletown or evening action than in the couple block stretch surrounding Rodney's. The place is SO cute, it's super adorable ... The wood floors, fishermans wharf theme, the afterwork crowds at the bar ... Loud & full of people this place has energy, a vibe - it's fantastik!!
... Problem is getting a solid meal is impossible. :(
we tried, man did we try to eat there, enjoy the place, see value & appreciate the food. Rodneys to us seemed like a perfect place, especially since we lived in the penthouse upstairs and after a long day at work could just mosy on in instead of cooking.
Food wasn't special. Servers have sense of entitlement. Overpriced for value. Sorry Rodney's - we tried.
Cafe Luxy is one of those old school Italian eateries where ambiance is simple, a candle on every table, clean & quaint. Light jazz or Funky offbeat music fill the air, the lights dim as evening progresses and the owner (short dark haired) waits on tables just like any other staff member.
The food is clean, honest & simple. They make their pasta fresh, sauces & specials always interesting. $13.99 will get you a HUGE pasta entree, including garlic toast & side cesar salad to start. In 16 years I've never finished a plate of pasta - we always take home and have for treat the next day.
For date night, for a place to duck out of the rain & enjoy a hot meal, for rustic Italian food done properly-Luxy after 16yrs has never dissapointed.
