The Met is an average pub with fairly standard greasy pub food. The best part about it is the cool older building that it is in, although the layout inside is somewhat cramped. The location close to skytrain is also convenient. It's worth checking out for a drink or two, although Heritage Grill down the street has a funkier atmosphere and better food.
Laguna Blu is a great place for a date or anniversary. It has a beautiful view of the shimmering Fraser River and sometimes, music is playing. The fish is generally fresh and good. Prices and service are average for a seafood establishment. The wine selection is decent, too. It's too bad that that Quay Market around it has seen tough times.
Japanese food can be done well and it can be done so-so. This place falls into the category. Sometimes the food (non-sushi items) here does not appeared to be well-cooked, which is a concern. As with most Japanese places, the prices are a bit more expensive per item than at other types of food places. So-so sushi.
The Keg is in a cool old station building - it creates a funky ambience. I'm not a huge steak fan, but the steaks here are decently done. Again, not being much of a steak fan, I don't really like spending much on steak, so I generally find steak places, including the Keg, not to be of a good bang for the buck. It's a good place to go once in a while.
Domino's pizza is typical big chain pizza, nothing more and nothing less. The place itself (like most chains) lacks personality, but most people get take-out, so that doesn't really matter so much. The pizza tastes okay. Prices are okay. Come to think about it, I don't remember much about the place. Overall, it's just okay.
Chopsticks, like many buffet restaurants, is a good value place with lots of food to fill your plate. The place's decor and atmosphere is nothing special, but it's a decent place to enjoy Chinese food with a large group. It's fairly quiet too, which can be good or bad, depending on what type of Chinese restaurant you want.
I really like the Orange Room's music and bands. It's also cool that it is local and not owned by some big chain. However, I'm not feeling the food. The prices are very high for very average food. The place can also be a little crowded at times. In general, I would go here for a drink or two and to listen to the music, but I wouldn't go here for dinner.
I gotta start the review off by saying that this Bavarian Alps style home is cool and the decor inside is awesome. It keeps it real. I think that I would like this place better if I actually liked German food, but I'm not a big fan of sauerkraut, schnitzel, or sausage. However, if you like German food, you'll probably like this place.
They aren't very common, but there are pizza places where the pizza isn't greasy. Fresh Slice Pizza is one of those places. The pizza tastes good and there are a variety of toppings. I also like the cleanliness of the place, especially compared to most pizza places and I like the well-organized menu. Decent prices too. This slice is fresh!
La Spaghetteria is set in a romantic, house-style building. The pasta is fairly and the service is friendly, though it is slow during busy periods. The prices are regular for pasta places, although there are often coupons and deals that provide good deals. I can't remember too much about the place, except for the fact that friends paid for my meal made it taste that much better! Overall, viva la Spaghetteria!
I'll give this to Clancy's; it's a big bar with lots of seats (except when the sports games are on). The food is a little too greasy, however, and the wings aren't as good as at many pubs. The service is okay. The place has a rather so-so downtrodden ambiance most of the time, though it is popular during sports games. It isn't bad for a drink, but it's not good for food.
As is the nature of greasy spoon diners, Jim's cafe offers heart-attack inducing food at a good price. However, Jim's cafe also offers fruit dishes, which is excellent. The servers are always friendly and the ambience, though not great, is much better than most diners (which are usually dirty and often rat-infested). It's a decent place for a relaxed breakfast.
Indian Star isn't the best Indian food place that I have dined at, but it's pretty good. The curry dishes are tasty and for beverages, their beer selection is fairly good. I like their buffet menu, although Saffrons in Burnaby has more variety in their buffet. The prices are a bit higher than I would have liked, but overall, if you are craving Indian food, Indian Star is a good place to check out.
I am not a big fan of the generic ambience of chains and IHOP is no different. However, if you are in a pinch for breakfast and want a reliable, decent breakfast, IHOP isn't bad. As you would expect from a place with Pancakes in the name, Pancakes are their specialty and they are pretty good. Nothing great, nothing bad - just a regular generic breakfast.
Sometimes, you just have cravings. Some people crave ice cream, others crave chocolate. Sometimes, my friends and I crave Hon's. It's true that their food is a bit too greasy, but it's tasty, especially the chow mein. Considering how crowded it is, the servers get things done with amazing efficiency. I don't really like how busy it is, but overall, it is a good place to eat Chinese food.
This is the hip type of restaurant that New Westminster needs more of. It's a Commercial Drive type of restaurant with live music and a funky back room. The food is good quality with fresh vegetables and the staff and servers are always friendly. The prices are a tad expensive, but it's worth it for the cool experience here.
I can't show any love to a place that doesn't bring you water when you ask for it. I had to ask five different servers to bring me water before I finally got it. Hey, Pho Hoa people, there are people in this world who don't DRINK TEA and there is nothing wrong with that. The service was terrible - they were surprised when I didn't leave a tip, but when you ignore a table for 20 minutes when the restaurant is not busy, you don't deserve a tip. The pho is pretty tasteless.
As with everything else, the ambience sucked. The location is sketchy and I was always looking over my back preparing to duck under the table in case there was a drive-by shooting. I will never come here again pho sure.
This place is okay - not good, not bad. The dim sum tastes decent, the prices are okay, and the chinese food is like, well, Chinese food at almost every other Chinese restaurant in Vancouver. It's convenient to the skytrain station and Douglas College. As with all Chinese food places, ask them to hold the MSG on your food.
You gotta love a fish and chips place that has unlimited fish and chips on certain days. This is not the place to go if you are not hungry, but after a long hike or day of playing sports, this is a great place to quench your hunger pangs. Good quality fish and chips and I like the cockney sayings on the placemats. The service is always good.
I'm not really a huge fan of the chain restaurants such as Red Robin, Hurls (oops Earls), or Milestones, but Boston Pizza is a slight step up on most of them. Their pizza is pretty good, the service is friendlier than most, and the value is much better than other places such as Milestones. Still, it's a chain restaurant and I'd rather go to a local place.
