Great taste cum value for thick cut slices of fresh sashimi/sushi, incredible selections plus excellent service

Matsuyama is our favourite Japanese restaurant. We enjoy the laid back ambiance, the superbly fresh sashimi/sushi, the Matsuyama rolls, Matsu combo, bento boxes and the grill salmon neck the most. The daily specials are worth ordering as the portions are just right and the selection is quite impressive. Service is always prompt with a smile and we won't dream of eating Japanese food anywhere else in Richmond.

Passed by the restaurant and saw a line up everytime. Being curious and under the mentality that anything good is worth waiting for, my husband and I foolishly joined the bandwagon and waited for a good 30 minutes before we were seated for dinner. We started lining up at around 5:40pm on a Saturday evening.
The verdict is as follows;
Broad noodles too doughy
Soup base too bland
Beef slices and chunks were tender and quite tasty
Radish pan fried pastry was not bad
Boiled vegetables - a joke - maybe 4 small pieces of Shanghainese bok choy drenced in oyster sauce
The bill came to a whopping $ 31 for two persons. I must say that the service was good and the waitresses aimed to please and the food arrived promptly. But I will not be visiting this joint anytime soon as I feel that it is a rip off for charging $ 10. 95 for a bowl of noodles and it was not even that good. I would recommend Wang's noodles on Granville st in Vancouver...much better value and taste.

My husband, my teenage son and I went to dine there last Saturday and it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. There was no air conditioning and the place was stuffy. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating but she forgot to introduce the specials to us. The place was half filled that night. I had the penne Bombay which was only okay, but the Italian salad was very good. My son's minestrone was mediocre but his veal cannelloni was excellent. My husband's veal marsalla was very expensive and it wasn't very tasty at all. The portions are small and there is definitely no bang for the buck here. All in all, it was an uneven meal.
We will not go back to Paesano any time soon.

We wandered into Italian Tomato for dinner hoping that the food would be somewhat palatable. We were pleasantly surprised with the soothing decor and friendly staff. Although the bread were chewy and disappointing, not to mention that the cocktails were expensive but the pasta dishes were phenomenal to say the least! The Venezia. Gamberi and cabonnara sauces were absolutely delicious and the huge portions of heaping pastas were cooked to perfection! There is a cover charge of $12.95 per person so sharing an appetizer and a pasta dish between a couple is out of the question. The left over pasta tasted even better the next day for lunch, so there is no need to gobble it all up...ahem!
I took a friend three for lunch and the prices were really reasonable, around $8.99 for the main dish and there was no cover charge. It is great to have such a fine Italian pasta place in Richmond without having to drive all the way to Commercial drive. Enjoy!
