Nice place with good drinks but poor food
Submitted Sunday, August 12, 2007 - 3:11am [Dine in]

I went to this place with a bunch of friends a few weeks ago for a couple of drinks. Service was great... the servers knew their drinks and were very attentive. The live jazz was fantastic and we were able to request a lot of our favorite songs. The drinks we had were pretty good, though some of them were a hit/miss. We also ordered dessert. The creme brulee was pretty good but the lava cake and cheesecake (both which the server told us were really good and that they were featured in the newspaper) turned out to be below average and definitely not worth the price. The cheesecake tasted bland and the slice was shockingly small. The lava cake tasted like a store bought brownie.
Overall, you should go for the ambiance and the drinks, but the food really isn't that impressive at all... especially given that price.

GREAT food

I've been here twice with my family in the past two months (once in July for their steak promotion and once in August for their seafood promotion). The food was excellent both times and everything was just so so good! The servers at both times were very attentive and kept our water glasses constantly filled.
The first time when we had steak, it was just cooked perfectly the way we wanted. It was so well seasoned... we had no complaints whatsoever. The second time we had salmon and prawns and that was also excellent. I thought the steak was better though.
Both times, we had the butternut squash fondue as an appetizer with garlic bread and that was quite enjoyable. The bread they have there, with their tartar... to die for! It's SO good! Their chocolate ganache cake with gelato's also to die for... we had it both times.
Overall, excellent dining experience and great food.

It's alright...

The original Guu definitely beats this one at Aberdeen but the food here's not too bad. The ambiance here does NOT match the one downtown at all, but nonetheless all the servers and chefs were loud and welcoming. We ordered several dishes including the pumpkin croquette, grilled minced chicken, and deep fried prawns. All were very good and matched the downtown Guu quality; however the sushi was subpar. The rice was hard and dry and there really wasn't anything special about it. My advice would be to stick to their tapas and leave the sushi for other places.

Great place to eat and relax

I decided to pop into this little cafe one day for lunch because I needed internet access. The food and service was great and I've been going there pretty often lately. The lady at the counter (or whoever is working there) is always very nice and super attentive. The cafe has quite a selection of sandwiches and baked goods. I've tried quite a few of their sandwiches and they're all really good... especially the smoked salmon one! They grill the sandwiches if you like them hot and they serve it with a small piece of fruit. I havn't tried any of their drinks yet but I've been told that their smoothies are amazing. If you're in the area looking for a nice cozy area to eat and relax, this cafe's great!

Solid but not spectacular

I went with a group of friends a few nights ago for dinner and the place looked very nice, especially with the sunshine streaming in. The server was extremely friendly and checked up on us constantly, filling up bread and water. Half of my group were late that night but the server was very understanding and put up with all the problems we had.
I ordered the smoked salmon pizza for dinner and found it alright... I've never been a pizza fan but I've definitely had better pizza before. My friends ordered an assortment of pasta and they all found it pretty good. For an appetizer, my friend ordered the drunken mussels.I usually don't enjoy mussels but they were really tasty!
Overall, service and ambiance were great but I wouldn't go again just for the food.
