Floyd's Diner866 Yates Street, Victoria
fun place with pretty good food and good service

I gave this one a try this morning for breakfast. A great kitchy place with a hippie vibe. Being of that generation I loved it. The music was fab too! Portions were substantial and the pancakes were very tasty. Service was solid and our coffee cups were kept full. My friend had the bagel w/lox and loved it. I recommend this place as a fun place to take your family and get pretty full for a very cheap price. Enjoy!

Orale Tacos, Tamales and Deli1002 Johnson St., Victoria
given them 2 trys and I'm done. HORRIBLE, skip it
Submitted Monday, August 3, 2009 - 3:58pm [Dine in]

The first time I went here I just wanted a quick mexican snack. had a tamale with mole & a tostada. I took it to go and it was okay. I've had worse. The tamale was a bit dry and the tostada soggy but like I said it was decent. Now I went back last night to try some other items on their menu. The girl overcharged me and left out some items I ordered. To top it off the soup wasn't packed correctly and I lost half of it from the lid opening and making a mess all over the place. The tacos were bone dry and they didn't give us any sauce on them. The tamale w/salsa verde was very dry and they forgot to give me my rice & beans. Well this time I was ticked so I called the girl over there. She apologized and said she would give me my $9 overcharge back if I came by. I did the next day but I'm not going there ever again.

really impressed. excellent food & service

I don't agree with the last review, the hype is correct. Our waitress was excellent, the food very tasty, the portions huge and the ambience cool. I never wait for any restaurant but I would wait for this one any day of the week. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. A Plus on every count and the prices were very reasonable.

Cafe Mexico1425 Store St, Victoria
horrible overpriced food

This was the worst mexican food I have ever had in my 50 years on this planet. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Prices were ridiculous and service mediocre. I ordered a margarita which was watery and I couldn't taste any tequila. The taquitos would have been better frozen from the grocery store, those are better than what I received. Small amount of rice & beans (which btw costs nothing). The only positive comment I have was that the chips were good. Don't go here really it was bad.

love this place

I have come to this place on 4 different occasions and I have loved it each time. It's usually busy but overall I've always had solid service. The food is fresh and tasty. I highly recommend it to all of you and as a note the miso covered hallibut is out of this world. The fresh oysters are awesome too. Don't hesitate this place is solid.

so so food & service poor

My son took me here for Mother's Day. The service was mediocre at best. Had to keep asking her for our things like coke, bread etc... Value forget it. $24 bucks for a tiny pc of salmon & a few asparagus. The clam chowder was bland and full of potatoes instead of clams. Tables were cramped and the piano player was loud and horrible. Honestly if you're considering this place, Don't. Go to the boathouse for a better meal, great service and for the same price more food.

nice people but horrible food

we tried the lunch all you can eat. It was cold and there were only 4 entrees. one was a salad, one was chickpeas in sauce the other two were ice cold, rice & butter chicken. The man serving us was very nice but unfortunately that was the only good part of this meal. I won't be going back even if it was free. Skip it.

Just took my son here for his birthday dinner. All the reviews are right, it's a great little place. Food was all great esp. the calamari & Duck. Service was good the only thing I might say is it took a bit of time to get our entrees but in all fairness they were pretty busy. I will definitely be back again. Great value for such good foo.

I wanted to take my family out for a nice dinner and found this place on dine here. It was close to home and had decent reviews. What a great place! Food was fabulous and reasonably priced. Our waiter Dylan was fantastic, never missed a beat. We had a beautiful special salad with warm figs & goat cheese, to die for. Then crab cakes & brie on baquette. Both very nice. My son enjoyed his tasty gnocci, my hubby said the steak was good and I had the veal, scrumptious. We followed all that up with desserts. The favorite being the amazing creme brulee, so YUMMY. Give this place a try especially if there's something to celebrate.

I have eaten here before and it was okay, nothing special but.. went back there today. It was the worst. Service was terrible. we asked for a ginger ale and got gin with our ginger ale. Thank god it wasn't given to a kid. Hamburgers were tough, overcooked and tasteless. Now the new menu is ridiculous priced. They upped all the entrees to prices that I would only pay at a medium fine restaurant not this disgusting place. Don't even go there take your money to Red Robin or Milestones. This is a total ripoff and the service was non existent. Oh and let's not forget the dirty glasses and silverware. The Dept of health should pay them a visit.

Capstone Tea & Fondue1429 Robson Street, Vancouver
this place will be out of business by summer
Submitted Sunday, February 17, 2008 - 11:11pm [Dine in]

I saw a bit on this place on Living Vancouver and it looked great. NOT! what a complete and utter rip off nevermind that it took 2 hours to get two plates of fondue. I have to say that this is probably the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Service was non existent. Prices are horrific for what you get. we spent $40 for two awful bubble teas, one cheese fondue plate and one chocolate fondue. I could have had a steak at a decent restaurant for this price. I went home and ordered sushi because i was still hungry.
Do yourself a favor and just don't go there. Go home and make it yourself for $10 bucks. That's what I am doing next time I crave real fondue.
TERRIBLE!!!!!!

Diva at The Met645 Howe Street, Vancouver
wow what a lunch
Submitted Wednesday, May 30, 2007 - 5:32pm [Dine in]

Just had lunch at the diva. Food was exclt, service was great, ambience good. A little warm inside and the entrees were slow coming out however everything else was spectacular. Yes it's a little pricey but the food was worth it.

Karen our server was excellent. Sweet, warm & helpful. She was on the ball 100%. We had the brie appetizer, it was delicious. I ordered the steak & frites. Steak was tender like butter, fries were real good. My partner had the butter chicken & loved it. Had a great martini and the chocolate souffle for dessert.

I tell you I'm the harshest critic in the world and I couldn't find fault with anything. Go you'll love it! I hear dinners are even better, more expansive menu & more desserts to choose from. We'll be going back one evening for sure. A++++

forget Stepho's go here for great food
Submitted Saturday, April 14, 2007 - 11:47pm [Dine in]

I got fed up with Stepho's so we tried this place tonight. WOW! It's not the best I've ever had, but it was darn good. Service was excellent, portions were healthy. Meat was high quality and very tasty. They didn't stuff the plates with starch and little meat. Also the fried calamari was excellent and huge. Give these guys a try and you'll never wait in that line again.

felt ripped off
Submitted Wednesday, August 2, 2006 - 12:22pm [Dine in]

We tried this place for lunch last week. Food was overpriced and poor quality. Ordered the jambalaya and it was made with instant rice and the fish tasted old. My son ordered the burger and seemed to like it alright. I felt they were stingy on the fries provided. The waitress hardly came around though she was pleasant when she did. The restaurant was fairly empty with 2 servers so I don't know where she was most of the time. She tried to upsell us constantly too which I found annoying. She pushed for us to have the best pecan pie ever. We waited 45 minutes for dessert, which infuriated me. I told her to forget it 3x's and she wouldn't. Finally she got the owner to go in back and said that they only had one person doing salads & desserts. That may be but there was 3 tables being served so that reasoning didn't hold water. When we finally received our dessert it was horrible and had a refrigerator taste. We spent $65 incl tip for 2 at lunch and all I can say is save your money and go elsewhere. If I had been the owner I would have given us the desserts at no charge after that. Needless to say I doubt they will be there much longer, hopefully a better restaurant will take their place.
