Delightful new find
Submitted Friday, January 8, 2016 - 5:45pm [Dine in]

K and I ate here on Wednesday at 5pm. We were in West Vancouver for a job and decided to just grab some dinner instead of waiting to when we got home.

As we waited for a table, the waiter told us this was a new place. Go figure, as I had never seen it before. The interiors and modern and chic, just the opposite of what I am used to at an Indian restaurant. This gave away I was in for a real treat.

The waiter gave us some fish appetizers to try out as he got our food ready. I can't recall the name, but it had a tinge of mint to them. Delicious! The restaurant was half-full by then, and then came the main dishes. I ordered a kebab and K went for the Rogan Josh upon the waiter's recommendation. My chicken kebab was delicious, and K really liked the twist the rogan josh was given to hers. This definitely is an upscale Indian restaurant that is not shying away from trying new things out. A couple of drinks later, we were more than impressed.

Will come again to try some more dishes.

Healthy, clean food option
Submitted Friday, May 22, 2015 - 8:58pm [Take-out]

We ordered from here last night and was delightfully surprised. Normally I am not one that strays for take-out, especially if it is not organic or vegetarian, but because my husband insisted I had to give in.

We got the spring rolls, tofu hot pot and mixed veggies with a curry sauce. It was fresh and hot. What was a relief was that the food did not have see excess grease floating around, which is quite common for Chinese cuisine. No msg on the food was also a plus. The bill came out quite inexpensive and managed to fill us so we were good to go. If I ever wanted Chinese take out, I would consider ordering again. In a city like this one where Chinese food can be found in abundance, delivering food that actually stands out can be quite the task.

Wonderful dinner
Submitted Friday, May 9, 2014 - 8:31am [Dine in]

I went to Handi's on Dunbar the other day with my husband. We wanted to try something different so I suggested this place.

While the food was not organic, it had this fresh taste to it, which was great. I tried the vegetable pakora as an appetizer but also stole some vegetable samosa from my husband. The pakora was interesting but I think I liked their samosa more.

For the meals, I had the eggplant bharta (not really sure if this is the correct spelling) while Mike, my husband ordered the shahi paneer and aloo gobi. The taste was simply splendid. I did not know you could cook eggplant that way! It was interesting. The food was not spicy which was good.

The service was also good. The waiters were extremely polite and were very patient with us and all the questions we had about the food. They also gave us suggestions as to what to order.

I'm glad I chose this restaurant. We had a wonderful time here and I am putting it on my list of places to go back. It will take time for me to get truly accustomed to Indian food but so far, so good!

Nice experience
Submitted Monday, May 5, 2014 - 11:08am [Dine in]

I went to Bishop's for dinner with my husband the other night.

We arrived at about 7 in the evening and it was full. After waiting for about 35 or 40 minutes, we were finally given a table. Despite the number of people at the restaurant that night, the service was great. The waiters were very attentive and kept on coming to our table to ask us if everything was fine.

What I liked about Bishop's was that the food is organic. I first ordered the beet salad while my husband went for the crab risotto. The portions were quite small but tasty. For entrees I had the Yukon Artic Char while my husband opted for the fraser valley duck. Once again, tasty, but nothing great either.

This is a pricey restaurant in Vancouver. I see that a lot of the previous reviewers here have complained about the prices of Bishop's but they need to realize that cheap is not everything. I prefer to pay a little extra and have a good quality meal and reassure my good heath rather than pay peanuts and pay the consequences later.

Okay experience
Submitted Monday, May 5, 2014 - 10:43am [Dine in]

I visited this restaurant with an Indian friend of mine. Overall, it was okay. I am not too big on spices and curries but the experience was pleasentful.

We arrived during the lunchtime buffet. I tried my hand at the aloo gobi and the vegetable curry. I was expecting the food to be awfully spicy but luckily it was not. I am not very experienced in Indian food but I have to say that the food did not seem fresh. The portions were quite large and the food was quite heavy. Not something I am quite used to. However, the taste was interesting.

As a vegan going on vegetarian, it is difficult to find options for food. This restaurant had several options to offer, from appetizers to main meals and desserts.

I might have to try other Indian restaurants to really decide whether I am a fan of Indian food or not.

Aphrodite's Organic Delights Cafe3598 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
Favorite Organic place
Submitted Monday, May 5, 2014 - 10:24am [Dine in]

I really love Aphrodite's. They are famous for their delicious pies but I think one should also highlight the incredible taste and quality of their organic food.

We often forgo quality over price. But I must say, you get what you pay for! What I like about this cafe is that their products are fresh, organic and locally grown. I mean, their pizzas, sandwiches and salads have a homely, healthy taste and look to them.

Not only is the food really healthy, I also like the ambience of Aphrodites. It is a very welcoming and relaxing environment, which makes you want to come back time and time again.

One thing that my health-conscious friends constantly point out when I take them here is the service. They can be a little careless and slow. This needs to improve.
