My first time here and decided to have Lamb Souvlaki (my favorite in other greek restaurants). The fellow behind the counter was very fun and friendly.
Prices are reasonable. The greek salad is made to order so if you do not want olives or peppers or something not in it, they will not include it (I like that). The lamb was cooked right there on the spot. The lamb souvlaki meal consisted of 1 skewer of lamb, greek potatoes, rice and Tzatziki sauce. I took it home and dug in and found myself disappointed. The only thing I enjoyed was the greek salad.
When I bit into the lamb, all I could taste was the herb Rosemary (way too overpowering) - I could not taste the lamb at all, but, at least it wasn't overcooked and dry, it was moist just the wrong flavor. The rice was bland and looked more like fried rice. The potatoes - were bland and mushy. They were obviously and a day or two before and just reheated. The only way I could get any flavor on them was by dipping them into the Tzatziki sauce.
Will I go back? I will be fair and give them one more shot but I will not try or recommend any souvlaki as it includes bland rice and bland mushy potatoes. One thing did catch my eye for next time - they have a shrimp sandwich made with pita bread. That sounds interesting and hopefully not bland like the souvlaki or overpowering in a wrong flavor.
A friend and I went here for lunch. We found the place to be extremely busy but the service was so fast we were in and out with our pieces of pizza to eat in the park very quickly.
This place is very clean and the workers are very friendly. The pizza was great. The crust was delicious. I loved that there were several pizzas out to choose what we wanted. It was not greasy, it was generous in the toppings. I will definitely be returning here again and again.
I've been to several greek restaurants and many recommended Mythos. Go in, nice and clean with quick and friendly service. We had BC Mussels in tomato sauce as appetizers - delicious.
For the main course we both had the lamb souvlaki. When it arrived I was surprised at how small the portions were. It same with lamb (removed from the the skewer which was nice), one potato and greek salad. No rice? every greek restaurant I've been too have potato and rice with the lamb. The greek salad was a very small portion and overloaded with way too much cheese.
The lamb was overcooked for our liking - it was very well done. Oddly enough the best part was the potato in that main dish.
Will we go back? Definitely not $68 (before tip) for 1 appetizer, 2 lamb savouki's and 2 beers is a tab pricey considering the small portions. We went home and had snacks because we were still hungry - usually if you go to a greek restaurant you are so full and leave with a doggy bag but not here.
$5.99 plus tax for an egg salad sandwich? Wow!!! I've tried various sandwiches here over the past couple of years and although they taste great they are overpriced. To make it worth it you are best to order a sandwich and get everything put on it otherwise it's overpriced. That $5.99 I paid (other sandwiches cost more) did not include a beverage - that's just the sandwich.
It was good but not something I would spend my money on on a regular basis.
Four of us came here. Wednesday evening, arrived at 6:15, were told it would be a 30 minute wait. 1 hour later we were finally seated.
Three had the prime rib classic and one had a sirloin. The Caesar salad was the worst I've ever had. The dressing tasted like they just poured lemon juice over top of the lettuce. That was not a Caesar salad dressing. None of us finished our salads.
My prime rib was cooked to perfection (rare) but it was a very fatty piece. The baked potatoe was great and the mushrooms weren't that great as they tasted like they were canned mushrooms and not fresh.
The second person enjoyed his prime rib but also found it to be a fatty piece. The person having the third prime rib sent it back as it was too rare - she requested medium rare. But was happy when it came back.
The fourth person in the group with the sirloin found his steak to be bad. The rest of us tried it and yes, it was bad. The waitress was apologetic and took it back to the kitchen and returned with another. He said it was okay but not worth the price they charge.
Will we come back? Maybe, if I am not in a hurry as we didn't leave until 9:45 because their service was slow - slow seating, slow to take our order, slow to bring drinks, slow to bring the bill.
We have been regulars for a few years with Bella Candela - way back to when they were higher up on Lonsdale. It has been a couple of months since we last ordered pizza and last night was the night we wanted our favorite - the Mediterranean gourmet vegetarian pizza.
Noticed instantly the increase in the price of the pizza, oh well, one has to expect that. But the problem was he opened up the box and I asked - where's the toppings? And why is the pizza so greasy? This pizza is usually loaded with lots of chunks of toppings - always been very generous in that area. Now - the only chunks were the tomatoes - everything else was minced and where was the basil? I saw the pesto sauce on it but not one basil leaf (there's usually tons).
The taste was "okay" but not great. It was greasy and they put too much sauce on it (you can double up on toppings but should never double up on sauce as that ruins a pizza). The crust was even the same - it was thin and bland (the crust was always so good, like eating bread, but anyone.
I asked the hubby if it was a new cook there and he said nope, he was told new owners and it seems to be more Mexican now. Sigh!!! Oh well, at least we had many years of great pizza. Unfortunately I am not about to go back for more greasy pizza that is skimpy on the topping and charges way too much. So, saddly we are now shopping for a new pizza place for us to be regulars with.
How disappointing. It was worth driving the extra distance to go there, but not for what we got.
Arrived at 5:20 and it was half full already and 2 tables reserved - definitely recommend reservations if arriving for dinner on a Friday night.
The restaurant is small but very quaint. I liked it. Service was quick. The menu wasn't super large but we still had difficulty choosing as everything looked so good. I can't recall the names of the dishes but one was chicken over spinach with peanut sauce (the chicken was overcook - very dry) and the sauce was too thin but still tasted very good. The other dishes we had (also can't remember the names) but there were okay, nothing outstanding. The noodles were a tad bland and the spicy dishes had just a hint of heat (Canadianized I guess).
Will we go back, sure some day but it didn't knock my socks off to want to return soon as it was okay. Oddly enough the waitress didn't even come by to ask how things were, I found that odd and made us feel not so welcome as she was asking other tables how they were doing - maybe she was shy? (don't so). But some day sure we'll return.
I phoned in my order for delivery. They said 30-40 minutes which was expected on a Friday night. 55 minutes later still no pizza so we called them back. They claimed we never called and placed an order. After some discussion we reminded them of what we ordered and demanded that it be at our place within 20 minutes. It arrived in 10 minutes (I wonder if we got someone else's order to be that quick). The pizza was average, nothing special and definitely not worth the hassle we went through. Will we return? Definitely not.
This is my second visit here and I still love this place and will return. The food is excellent with huge portions that you will be bringing a doggie bag home (and I went there hungry but still left with a doggy bag). That's great.
We arrived shortly after 5pm so the restaurant was not busy as expected. We were seated immediately and given menus and were asked what we wanted in very great timing. So the service timing is excellent, but....well, some here have been complaining about the 'rude' service but I have to wonder....was it really rude or just "unhappy" looking? The person taking our order was an elderly woman that didn't seem to know how to smile but we knew that she wasn't upset, it wasn't us personally and was not rude to so we actually found it a bit amusing (joking about how a smile might crack her face? LOL). We watched her throughout our dining experience and she wasn't rude but she clearly just looked unhappy. Unhappy and not smiling to me does not mean rude so I do not give negative marks to this place for an unhappy looking hostess/server.
We ate, we paid, we were extremely full and very happy with our meals and we finally got a smile as we left. Was it because we were leaving? I hate to think that.
I had the roast lamb....absolutely incredible. My first thought - it's so huge, how will I eat it all? (no worries, that's what doggie bags are for). The baked lemon potatoe - that was a hit at the table - awesome. The rice was light and fluffy and I loved that I was able to say, hold the green peppers and they did. If you ever crave lamb, this is THE place to do. Very reasonably priced, huge portions and a clean restaurant. The other items on the menu looks fabulous but when I think greek I always want lamb. This mis my 'lamb' spot. The parking is hard (always busy from the other businesses, so part at the mall and walk over).
We've been here many, many times over the years. We love their breakfast - never disappointed the breakfast food but the service every time we have been there have been super slow (even when there are only 2 or 3 other tables with people) - slow to get the coffee, slow for them to take the order but once it's ordered the food does arrive quickly.
Lunch is always not too bad, never disappointed but not outstanding. We've been there a few times over the years for dinner hoping that it has been improved since previous dinner visits but no, it's never really changed - not outstanding food, just okay.
You want to go early for breakfast on Sundays as they do get busy as they have great breakfasts.
We've eaten here 6 times - 3 times we dined inside the restaurant and 3 times we either called or went in and ordered take out.
The food is fantastic. We've tried many different things from the menu and loved everything, never been disappointed. I especially love that they use real crab for their California rolls and not imitation crab (that is a major plus to me and they are cheap on the crab).
The only complaint I have is.......if you dine in the restaurant their service is extremely slow. But if you do a take out every single time the take out food was ready in about 10 minutes. We were there last night and from the time we sat down to when the food finally arrived 25 minutes passed (we were the only ones in the restaurant). As for them giving us the invoice when we were finished - the waitress didn't come back so after waiting 15 minutes after finishing our dinner we finally went to the back and paid (maybe it's supposed to be that way??)
So, if you want great sushi, this is the place. If you want quick service - do take out. If you are not in a rush (or don't mind waiting 25 minutes for your sushi to arrive on your table) you can pass the time by watching (no sound) their tv they have on their wall. (oddly enough we can call the order in, go down and pick it up and return home doing all that in less time that it normally takes for the food to arrive on your table when you dine in (somehow that's not right but has happened all 3 times for us). Take out is the way to go here.
We used to come here once a month always enjoying their burgers and breakfasts. It's been years since we've been here and twice over the past couple of months have decided try it again.
When were there for dinner we were very pleased - the burgers tasted just as great now as they did years back. Pricier but in line with other places. We were glad to see our favorites still on the menu.
When we were there for breakfast we noticed that they seemed to used an awful lot of hash browns as a filler on the plate (way more than anywhere else but unfortunately their hash browns looked and tasted like they came out of a bag, not that great. The Eggs Benedict were not bad but could have used more hollandaise sauce as they put only about 1 tablespoon of sauce over each egg.
Overall it was okay. The service was quick and friendly. We'll probably eventually go back when in the mood for a burger but not for breakfast. Over $10 for a plate of Eggs Benedict that were overloaded with not-so-good hash browns and such little sauce wasn't worth the price.
This was our first visit here. It was packed but there were a couple of spots at the counter for us which we enjoyed. The service was very quick and very friendly.
We both ordered 1 piece cod fish and chips. Boring you might think for an Oyster Cafe but no...they were THE best fish and chips I have ever had. Nothing was greasy. The batter was very light. The chips were delicious. Excellent tartar sauce and the nice surprise is they came with coleslaw that was delicious.
When we left I told my DH that the next time we go to Granville Island we are definitely coming back here. I can't think of anything negative to say about this place and I can be brutally honest but this place is superb.
We have been going here for years. For birthdays, anniversaries and for no other reason than to just go out. The dinners are always fantastic and very consistent in taste each time you go there. Many restaurants tend to have their dishes taste differently depending on the chef but not here - very consistent.
The service is always very quick and from the host/hostess to the server everyone is always friendly and smiling. I especially like how sometimes there is a pianist playing the piano (very romantic), especially since the lights are fairly dimmed for a nice setting (but not too dark).
We have never been disappointed and I always take out of town guests there and all are always pleased.
Whenever I am at the airport I always make a point stopping in for a meal, whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, by myself or with people. This has become tradition because the food is always great, the service is quick (they realize we are on a time schedule with flights) and best of all the prices are not overinflated just for being at the airport.
I love sushi and can fill up very quickly on it as it's mostly rice, but, surprisingly enough I left hungry. Yes, we did the all you can eat but the server rarely ever comes by that how can you eat until your satisfied?
The sushi itself is good, not outstanding but good. The only complaint is the sad service.
I've heard of the Crab Shop for ages and finally decided to go there. It was delicious. No negative comments from any of us. It was better than we hoped for.
After eating we couldn't resist - we had to buy some salmon to cook at home for dinner because it was the best looking most fresh looking salmon I have ever seen. Absolutely beautiful.
I can't wait to go back.
We find ourselves at the Marina Grill about 4-5 times a year and having been going there for years and have been disappointed only once but they were quick to fix it. The problem at that time was the eggs in my egg benedict were almost raw - I love runny eggs but not near raw to the point they were still cold. But I told the server and it was replaced very quickly and lots of apologies.
We usually stick with the seafood and pasta dishes and always leave very full and happy. There was one time we were a little early for dinner time, their dinner I believe starts at 5pm and we arrived 4:20ish and they have not problem accommodating us for the dinner specials.
I especially enjoy sitting by the window looking at the all the sailboats moored below.
We usually pick up our Sushi over town but on the odd occaision when we want to pick up sushi locally we do take out with Gen Sushi. They are pricey compared to what we are used to over town but the quality and taste in the food makes up for it. They have the same things we get elsewhere but there are a few sushi dishes they have that they add something extra that makes it delicious.
It's been years since I've been to Andreas and finally went back the other day. I remembered how in the past many would rave about it but whenever I went the service was slow and the pasta was always overcooked (mushy).
So we went back hoping it has improved but was very disappointed that the pasta is still overcooked, the service is still slow and the pasta didn't even have much in the way of good flavors. It almost tasted that it was reheated from the night before.
