I LOVE this place. Four of dined there on Saturday night after a couple of drinks at Chill Winston. Had not been for quite some time (I know, I can't remember why not!!) and it exceeded my memory expectations. Pizza is just about my favourite food and I generally make my own but this places puts mine (almost) in the dust. I wish I could build a similar pizza oven in the corner of my kitchen but my husband says I would spend all my time lighting it, then cleaning it. It would be WORTH IT! Our server was really engaging and funny. I like the casual decor and feel of this place, too.

Lunch at Anducci's
Submitted Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 4:55pm [Dine in]

Three of us lunched at this new (6 weeks on the go) Anducci's today. This the old Jester's pub at the St. Regis Hotel. Has the darkish feel of a proper pub (as did Jester's) but a little bit brushed up as Jester's did need a bit of a makeover. Service was attentive and the 3 pizzas we ordered were really nice. Thin crusted and tasty we all agreed, very like (my own) homemade. Wine reasonably priced; however, they were out our first two choices. Not too worry, very close to the office so will likely quickly become one of our lunch repertoires. Very pleasant dining experience.

My friend and I had a meal at the Red Door last night before attending (the atrocious) Cyrano at the Playhouse. We were made to feel welcome immediately upon entering this beautiful restaurant - has a super feel to it, sort of a casual elegance! Our waitress Cindy was attentive and helpful. We order spring rolls which were rather bland but the dipping sauce was delightful. My friend has the chili chicken and I have the Thai Vegetable Curry in coconut milk was was really nice. We shared a bowl of jasmine rice. I must say, I was rather wary due to the number of somewhat negative postings but we really enjoyed it, would return and also would highly recommend this restaurant to friends.

A group of my friends and I gathered here last Thursday night. I was interested in this restaurant in part, because it is close to my home and in part, due to the various glowing reviews. I was certainly not disappointed. The facade looks a touch downtrodden but inside it is warm, inviting and we were welcomed with a huge smile. The service was so very attentive and they are scrupulously clean. Ie. the food is eaten with one's fingers and, when delivering a serving spoon to me, the waiter (owner I suspect) handed it to me carefully wrapped in a napkin. The US vice presidential debates were on. When it became clear that we were interested in the debate, the waiter/owner turned it up and we all chatted together about it. We all stated that we could site there all evening (we arrived about 5pm) and were told that they are striving to create an easy comfortable environment. They are succeeding. Really interesting restaurant concept.

I just love this place. I can't quite put my finger on what it is about it but the service is always top notch, attentive, warm and friendly. I've been here a number of times in the four and a half years my husband and I have lived on Capital Hill. This restaurant is walking distance from my house, certainly a plus. But the $5 topped to the brim Tsantale red or white is very pleasing and Cristos does just about the best Saganaki I've had anywhere! The decor could probably do with a bit of a brush up but I know I really enjoy a place when that sort of thing even adds a certain ambiance to the experience!

Lunch at Transcontinental
Submitted Thursday, September 4, 2008 - 4:38pm [Dine in]

I've just returned from a really relaxing, somewhat extended lunch at this venue. I've been here a few times since it first opened (my first visit was during the week it opened when the new manager made a point of chatting to each table to ensure we were happy and feeling well attended to). I must say that I've never been disappointed. I find the service to be most attentive. I've not been here at a time when it has been extremely busy as I'm sure it likely is when cruise passengers are to-ing and fro-ing (sp??) so cannot speak to service when it is. I find this a super spot to sit back for a nice chat with friends over a couple of glasses of wine. I love the openess of the space, the little alcoves for a wee bit of privacy and the fact that I have never felt rushed. I must admit my lunch today was something I almost never eat but it sounded so tasty that I could not resist. French fries with gorgonzola sauce. MY GOSH, crispy tender chips with a delightfully light cheesy sauce topped with fresh cracked black pepper. Really fine for such simple fare!

Lunch at YEW
Submitted Wednesday, August 27, 2008 - 3:16pm [Dine in]

I have just returned from a most enjoyable lunch at YEW with my mum and dad. First time I've been since they re-did the old Garden Room. I was really impressed with the decor, the use of old pieces of burl and driftwood, the dishes, lighting etc. The service was outstanding, attentive but unintrusive. My dad got there first (mum was shopping) and he was offered a newspaper to while his time away at our table. My dad and I both had the vegetable and pink apple sandwich (delightful) and my mum had the curry chicken sandwich which she also proclaimed was lovely. We'd also each a glass of Stag's Swallow Sauvignon Blanc from the South Okanagan. I'd never heard of it before and the waitress brought me the bottle so that I could have a good look at it. Crisp, cold and delicious. My only complaint is that I'd hoped they would address the acoustics problem in this restaurant when they did the reburbish. Alas, they did not and it is really quite noisy at the height of lunch hour. Too bad really about that but not enough of an issue to stop us from returning!

Supper 25 August/08
Submitted Tuesday, August 26, 2008 - 2:25pm [Dine in]

Myself and four of my friends met here last night for a meal, a drink or two and a chat. I was the first to arrive and was shown to a seat by a most accommodating hostess, then approached by a waitress who asked if I wanted a drink while I waited which was promptly delivered. As my friends gradually arrived, the waitress who was to look after us for the evening introduced herself and she was simply lovely. Bubbly, helpful and attentive. The food was good, all seemed to enjoy. I had the hummus pizza which I found to be an interesting combo and tasty enough that, when offered, I took my leftovers home which I never do (as a very fussy/odd eater I don't often comment on food as I don't think it would be fair!) As a place to meet and chat, I find it a lovely venue. My last visit here was in January of 2007 and I've really no idea why it's taken me so long to go back (really enjoyed my time there then as well!) I would highly recommend Chill Winston!

Submitted Tuesday, August 19, 2008 - 11:42am [Dine in]

I've lunched at this new venue a few times now but my visit last Thursday (14 Aug) really impressed me. I admit I am very fussy plus a non-meat eater so the ambiance and company are more important to me than food. Having said that I ordered the spinach and artichoke quesadillas sans red peppers. When my meal duly arrived the peppers were liberally sprinkled throughout. I drew attention to this to our very sweet waitress and she was horrified. I stated that it was not a big issue, I would order something else but she said she had specifically entered the order as I had requested, then dashed back to enter it again. In the meantime, another staff member came over and asked if I would like a complimentary salad or something while I was waiting (as my companions were now eating their lunches). I said no, I'm fine, I'll wait. Anyway, when my lovely quesadillas arrived without the peppers I really enjoyed my lunch and then was not charged for it. I said this was not necessary as it was not a big issue in my mind but I was offered more apologies. I was most impressed and, as a result, will continue to lunch here on a regular basis. In addition, I really like the layout of the new place as well as the super artwork!

Lunch at Joey's
Submitted Tuesday, August 19, 2008 - 11:34am [Dine in]

I met some out of town friends (Oz and England) here for lunch last Wednesday. I suggested Joey's as they were staying at the Sutton Place across the road and would not have trouble finding it. I've been here a few times in the past after work but this was my first lunchtime visit. I was really very impressed as were my guests. It was a lovely spot to have a quiet chat, the service was spot on but unintrusive and the food was very nice. (I'd only a salad but the others chose more substantial fare and all enjoyed). I would not hesitate to recommend this as a solid lunchtime dining choice.

My friend, her 14 year old daughter and myself dined at this lovely little bistro last night. My friend has been a number of times before (and raves about it!) so I was keen to check it out. Water and bread was served almost as soon as we arrived - bread was simply lovely and I am very fussy about bread. Must be homemade and with some depth and substance to it ie, not fluffy blow away stuff!! I ordered the Chickpea Marrakech which was delightful. My dining companions had ribs and chicken respectively both of which were pronounced tender and delicious. Ample glasses of wine are offered at $6.00 each with an interesting selection (understandably small but it is only a little restaurant) to choose from. As my friend and her daughter had been talking about dessert from the moment we walked in the door they opted to share an ENORMOUS piece of 4 or 5 layered chocolate cake. I begged off as I was quite satisified with what I'd already had UNTIL the choccie slice was placed in the middle of our table with THREE forks - I am not a huge chocolate cake fan but I would return numerous times if only to imbibe in this fabulous delicacy! I can only imagine how tasty all the other desserts must be. I recommend this sweet little bistro. I suspect before long they may move onto larger premises if the calibre and quality of the food continues in this vein!

I lunched at Mr. Ho's on the above date as part of a group celebration. I found the waitresses to be outstanding in their attentiveness and (as I do not eat meat) they insisted on preparing a special meal just for me. It was simply delicious. I am not a Chinese food aficionado but would certainly return to this establishment and would highly recommend it to my friends who do go for Chinese! Thank you for a warm and welcoming dining experience.

My friends and I ended up popping in here for lunch while on the annual Vancouver Heritage Tour. I'd heard good things about it but was still so very pleasantly surprised. Great ambiance for a casual meal. I had a cherry lassi and veggie roti. So enjoyed this meal and look forward to returning in an evening when they have entertainment (Flaminco??!!) with my husband.

We went to this restaurant for my mum-in-law's birthday last weekend. The server was quite rude and literally snatched the menus out of our hands. I often make vegetarian moussaka at home (I don't eat meat) so decided I would try it in a restaurant to see how my own measures up. It was absolutely dreadful, in fact, it was not moussaka but a layer of zucchini, a layer of eggplant and a tepid white sauce poured over top. Quite inedible for my taste. My feeling is that if a restaurant cannot make a dish it should not be offered on the menu. We have been to this restaurant twice in the past and were never overly taken by it but now it is most definately off my list. Cristo's up the street is much nicer and certainly much friendlier.
