Black Tuna Japanese Bistro1184 Denman, 202, Vancouver
love this place
Submitted Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 10:00pm [Dine in]

black tuna has never failed me. The food is always fresh! I swear they have THE best tasting vegetarian gyoza's ever. I have to admit the food is a little pricey, especially when cheap japanese food is abundent in vancouver. Nonetheless, the spicy oysters ad naby udon is well worth the trip. Service is awesome, as the owner is usually waiting on tables. I'm just a little disapointed that this place isn't as busy as it should be.

I went out for drinks and snacks with a group of friends a few weeks ago. We usually head down to robson hapa, but decided to check out kits this time around. First of all, we made reso's because Hapa Robson on a friday night is crazy busy. We get there and the place is dead. We tell the hostess we had made a reso, but ignored the fact and seated us....at this point, the reso was un-necessary. Our server came by to ask if we'd like drinks while we were waiting for the rest of our party. She went around the table taking our drink orders, but didn't make it to everyone for some odd reason. Eventually, everyone arrived and we ordered. The saba was TINY in comparrison to Robson...we asked the waitress why. She couldn't really explain. She then brought out three stone rice bowls and we only ordered two. We told her about this and she tells us we ordered three, as if we wouldn't know how many we ordered. "I don't want to be here" was written all over the servers face. We told her to take it back and she gave us this look as if she didn't want to. Her exact words to us "I'll take it off your bill, I don't really f-cking care" - totally inappropriate. A word of advice, if you're having a bad day..don't show it to your customers

I love THAI

I co-worker of mine told me I needed to check this place out. I went with four other people and we were seated right away. As soon as we sat down, the server brought us water. After we had ordered, the food came extremely quickly. We ordered the usuals such as pad thai and red curry. We also had this plate full of appies - spring rolls, satays. We also ordered the eggplant stuffed with shrimp paste...you all MUST try it! It was absolutely delicious. Overall, the food was AWESOME, but the restaurant did get a little too loud. Also after we had finished, the server cleared out table so fast...it kind of felt like they were trying to rush us out. Then again, they were starting to get busy...I have nothing, but love for this place

what happened!?!?

I usually take out from here once a week, since I live only 10 minutes away. I never eat in for a reason. The service is absolutely HORRIBLE. I ask for water and I never get it. I ask for more tea and I never get it. Sometimes it takes forever to even get your food because the chefs are concentrating on take out orders first. Seriously, your customers dining in need to eat too!

I've come to wonder if they have changed some of their sushi chefs in the last month or so. Everytime I open my take out box all the rolls are near falling a part. The taste is the same, but the quality has changed. I suggest for everyone who wants to eat here to get their order TO GO!

Manyo Sushi Japanese Restaurant180 E 2nd Street, North Vancouver
long established for a reason

I lived on the north shore and have moved to Coquitlam recently, but whenever I'm in the area I always pop in. I'm never disapointed when I walk into Manyo's. The food is always fresh and doesn't have that taste where you feel like the food's been sitting out for hours and re-heated. For all you AYCE'ers, you know what I'm talking about right? If you have the chance, you MUST try the motoyaki!!! The sauce is litterally to DIE for. I always try to get the recipe, but apparently it's a restaurant secret. The restaurant is family run and owned, so I think there is a certain attention to detail. The current owners have told me that the restaurant has been open on the north shore for almost 30 years now. Apparently, the first EVER japanese restaurant on the north shore...WOW
