Worst Coffee I Had in Years
Submitted Saturday, September 27, 2008 - 10:33pm [Dine in]

Desperate for a cup of coffee we came upon this cafe and decided to go in because it look pretty decent and busy.

We just wanted coffee and dessert and the server was pretty friendly and welcoming.

We asked for two mocha's and got one, we wondered where the other one was....that arrived 5 minutes after the first one. Seems like their facilities or staff member can only make one cup of coffee at a time. She wasn't as jolly as the original server thats for sure. When I tried the coffee it was worse than Nescafe Instant, didn't even taste like coffee, really bitter - putting a few sugars in didn't help! Only took a couple of sips and couldn't take any more. I am a bit of a coffee-holic so I know my coffee!

The dessert was ok, nothing outstanding but quite edible. About equal to what you would get in the local supermarket.

There was a huge line for pizza and other lunch items so maybe we should have had that.

I would unlikely go there again.

Cheap and Cheerful

We went into the restaurant because one of us wanted something western, the other asian, so this was a great combination for us.

The menu selection was excellent, both large for western and Japanese. Meal for two people was less than $18.00 and we had the more expensive items.

The food wasn't fantastic. I had the eggs Benedict from their list of "specialties". It seemed a bit tasteless than others I have had but it was ok, enough potatoes to feed 3 people. My partner, who had something from the Japanese menu, has ended up with a rather unpleasant stomache this evening (yes, the bathroom is getting a lot of use) and we've had nothing else today that would cause it. What was a little concerning, looking back now, was the cleanliness in the restaurant...far from being spotless.

My grandmother always used to tell me to judge a restaurant by the state of its toilets. The men's was a little dirty and seemed that the light switch wasn't working, but I have seen worse.

The restaurant had no "charm" which would attract me back to it but certainly would look more at home on a freeway serving lorry drivers who were mega hungry from being on the road for hours without any sign of other eateries to satisfy them.

I would class this restaurants as "posh" as the surroundings are elegant and clean, and the prices in the higher bracket. I think this reflects the type of restaurants in the Kerrisdale area.

As expected in a posher establishment the setting, staff and food are fantastic.

The staff are very welcoming, attentive and will make suggestions.

Despite the food being in the expensive range there is a lot of it, definitely enough to take away at least half of it for a dinner another night. The food is traditional and really good, never had a bad meal here.

Nice Decor Shame About The Food

The restaurant looked really nice. Trying to sit down is very embarrassing - some poor woman there almost went head first down into the available space.

Staff were really miserable, not a smile on any of their faces and seemed quite put out when we asked for anything i.e. the bill.

Food was really awful, most things had a strange taste to it which suggests to me there is something going on in their kitchen I would rather not know about!! It was an all you can eat place but by waiter/ess service - so the poor guy bringing out the food looked ragged and fed up. Portions were small but I hardly ate anything that was bought to me - thanks goodness for KFC in the mall otherwise I would have starved. One of the few restaurants I have been in where I was more hungry when I left than I was when I went in!

The toilets were in an OK shape.

Would never go there again and wish I had read the reviews here before going and wasting our money.
