Expensive for what it was!
Submitted Friday, July 17, 2009 - 10:36pm [Dine in]

Maybe this was a twist on traditional French cuisine but I didn't find it particularly French. There was nothing wrong with the main courses, they were just...ok...but not outstanding. We had Crepe Suzette for dessert and it wasn't great, the crepes were too thick and the sauce almost blew my head off, too sweet by European standards, maybe they were catering to the North American palate!

The service was good for us, the waitress seemed a little bit fed up though. We were asked three times whether we were enjoying the meal, and that was too many times. Other customers didn't get the same treatment as we did, much worse, particularly those who wanted two tables put together.

For those prices I would expect a better food experience. So value for money I marked as the worst.

Ambiance, the place was modern, clean and comfortable. None of the decor reflected a French experience. However these days I am happy for not sharing my table with a family of bugs.

I would not go to this place again mainly bases on the value rating. If the food reflects the price then maybe I will consider going again.

Dim Sum ok...sorta!
Submitted Sunday, July 12, 2009 - 10:32am [Dine in]

We had a range of dim sum here and the only item I really thought was outstanding was the regular dumplings. We also had BBQ Pork Puffs, Shanghai Dumplings and so on which were less than or about average.

The service was good, even though the restaurant was very busy we got seen to straight away, no hanging around, food came out quickly and got our bill quickly too.

The prices seemed quite reasonable by Vancouver standards. Ambiance - well, it was ok, a little dirty, a refresh of paint wouldn't go amis!

So the big question is...would I come back here again? Probably would but wouldn't go out of my way.

We were very hot and needed something cool and saw the sign in the street to this little vendor on Granville Island.

The service was excellent, the people in there were very friendly, jolly and quick.

We had a coke float and a gelato in a cup. Both were excellent and hit the spot. Can't fault them.

Not much to say about the ambiance since it wasn't a restaurant as such but they had done the place up nice and I always like chalk boards for advertising since it makes their design look unique and not part of an ugly chain like Dairy Queen.

Not like homecooked British Food
Submitted Sunday, June 28, 2009 - 5:38pm [Dine in]

We came to this restaurant on a Friday evening when it was quite busy.

The service was quick and friendly throughout the time we were there. The ambiance was good, seemed quite clean and the decor made it have an atmosphere, I suppose they were aiming for British pub style.

Before I review the food I have to say that I am British. The food was nothing similar to what I have had in the UK homecooked, in pub's or restaurants. One of us had Fish and Chips, the fish looked like it came out of a box from the frozen section of Safeway. The Chips were actually quite good but more Canadian style than British. We also had the fillet of salmon, potatoes and vegetables. The salmon wasn't too bad at all. The potatoes looked as though they had a ton of butter in them and beaten to death, and pretty tasteless.

We were looking at what other people were being served. We noticed that the Cornish Pasties were quite small by British standards. The Shepherds Pie's actually looked quite good but served with salad (WTF??) which I have never seen before. The Yorkshire Puddings looks a very interesting shape!! Well, if you really like traditional homecooked British food don't go here!

They had a few items that weren't British like Burgers and they actually looked better than anything else!!

So, I may return here for say a drink because the atmosphere was good but I think I am better off making the British stuff at home - and my cooking ain't really that good but I can do better than that!!

Sorry Cheshire Cheese!

Not worth the money
Submitted Monday, May 18, 2009 - 4:19pm [Dine in]

We came here for dinner. The service was good, seen to straight away, staff always polite and attentive.

Food was ok, nothing really special. The pea shoots were the best but the other items we had were just alright. Nothing original or outstanding. The one item I didn't really like was the lemon chicken, a little too sweet. Portions were too huge and that put me off a little.

This was not good value for money. Most main dishes were at least $15 in price and even though the portions were generous the food was not the quality you would expect for the amount.

I could not fault the decor and cleanliness of the restaurant, everything was spotless and certainly looked a very posh place to dine. I probably would go back.

Good Vietnamese Sandwich
Submitted Tuesday, May 12, 2009 - 10:38pm [Dine in]

Just popped in here to have a quick bite to eat. This placed can be considered a little cafe rather than a restaurant. Decent menu for light snacks.

The Vietnamese were generous and cheap, they tasted very good too. I had a Vietnamese Iced Coffee which was brilliant here.

The ambiance was really non-existant. It was quite a poor maintained cafe, hadn't been decorated in a while, was a little dirty and had boxes of stuff in the main restaurant area. With a little bit of effort this could be improved.

Service was good but I didn't expect any given the size of the place.

Good Service Food...Ok
Submitted Saturday, April 25, 2009 - 8:00pm [Dine in]

We tried this restaurant for the first time today, the day of the Kerrisdale Carnival. It was empty when we went inside but started to get busier later.

We were seen to straight away and our order taken quickly. The food arrived quickly too. Service was good.

I had a bacon and cheese crepe. The crepe's in BC are nothing like the one's in Europe, they are more stoggy, less delicate. The stuffing was ok but nothing special. The food filled a hole but I would only go there again for a quick bit to eat rather than fine dinning.

I had pineapple juice for about $4.00 and there was enough in there for a family of 4. Way too much...but I guess that is North America - too much of everything.

The restaurant was decorated well, it was cosy, nice warm colours. The place was also quite clean.

So, in summary, this place is worth a visit but wouldn't go out of my way.

Wonderful Lunch
Submitted Saturday, February 28, 2009 - 10:57pm [Dine in]

We were recommended this place and can see why.

We were pleased we made a reservation for this place as it was quite crowded. All the waiting staff were amazingly friendly, everyone said hello to us and was very polite. Our waitress was very polite and friendly too giving us great advice, everything came out very quickly.

The food was amazing too, one of the best Xiaolongbao we've had in Canada to date. My other favorite was the pork sesame pockets, we haven't seen these in so many years and this restaurant did them perfectly - the meat was lovely and moist. Other people were ordering them in the restaurant so they might have been a specialty or favorite.

Loved the design of the restaurant, very modern, colors were very relaxing. It was also very clean and loved how you could watch the cooks make the bao's and other food. The waiting staff looked calm and relaxed, unlike many other restaurants in Richmond, so this made me feel unstressed being there. This restaurant looked as though it was for professionals or business people, a great place to bring a client too.

From the looks of the restaurant I was expecting a high price for what we had but it was actually very reasonable indeed.

I would recommend people try this place out at their earliest opportunity.

Allowances Made
Submitted Saturday, February 28, 2009 - 10:44pm [Dine in]

We gave some allowances before going to this restaurant because we knew that the staff were learning.

Greeted at the door by very friendly staff. We were given the lunch rather than dinner menu by mistake. When the waitress served the wine some of it went all over the table, I think she was nervous.

The food was really good and I thought they came up with slightly alternative variations on popular dishes. The pork loin was slightly over done but very nice otherwise. Certainly can't complain about anything else.

The ambiance was very pleasant, clean, tidy and perfect lighting levels. I was thought it would be a little more suit or smart casual crowd but many people were dressing as though they had just come off a building site.

I have to say the price was very good since we got a 2 for 1 deal, we never knew that until we got to the restaurant and it was a pleasant surprise.

I would recommend this restaurant because its great to see potential chefs hard at work, be supportive of them and for simply great food.

Good All Round Experience
Submitted Saturday, February 28, 2009 - 10:34pm [Dine in]

Pass this restaurant a couple of times each day and finally got to try it.

Was greeted by the very jolly owner of the restaurant, really enthusiastic guy who had an amazing communicative talent with the customers.

The food was very good indeed, one of the best Eggs Benedict I have had in ages. One of us also had pizza which was also extremely good. We even got to try a sample of their free dessert which was truly amazing. The ambiance of the restaurant was also very family style and welcoming, warm and cozy.

The only category I would rate them slightly lower is the price, it was quite expensive but probably equal to the quality. I would go back here on a regular basis because of the high price but would enjoy going there every now and again.

Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Standare Fare
Submitted Saturday, December 27, 2008 - 8:12pm [Dine in]

We had been recommended this restaurant by a colleague and it lived up to expectations.

We got a table immediately upon arrival and someone was there to serve us drinks within the minute, very fast.

The trolley service was good with the full variety of Dim Sum coming round frequently.

The food was good, not outstanding. There was a decent variety of items but all standard fare, little original thinking. However, that was OK by us for the occasion that we were there.

I thought the restaurant could do with some re-decoration, it certainly looked ragged round the edges and a bit dirty in places. The bathroom were quite clean but the floor was extremely slippery.

The staff seemed to be extremely quick although I did notice some friction between each of them.

....and the big question....would we go here again? The answer is yes.

Very Decent Small Restaurant
Submitted Saturday, November 29, 2008 - 10:28am [Dine in]

We went to this place thinking it might be bigger, it is just a bit larger than sandwich shop size however we did have a good experience here.

Very friendly person greeted us and asked if we were dining in so I assume they do a take away menu. The menu isn't huge but enough choice for us.

Our food came out quickly, and it was very good indeed. The portions weren't huge but just enough which we liked very much. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee was really good.

The restaurant was half full, they had people coming and going all the time.

The restaurant was "cafe" looking but it was clean and decent looking.

For three people with 3 courses and a starter and coffee the bill came to $30 so quite a bargain for what we had.

Too crazy, food poor
Submitted Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 9:34pm [Dine in]

We have never been in a White Spot before and thought we would give it a go. We wouldn't go back any more.

Got through the front door, very long line to get a table, we waited about 20 minutes - wish we had nipped over to McDonalds over the road.

The staff member on the front desk looked completely frazzled and was snapping at arriving customers. Obviously she was in the wrong job poor dear The waitress who served at our table was very nice, calm and too classy for such an establishment!

Once of us had fish and chips. The fish was bad, the coating was quite good, the chips tasted as though they had been hanging around for a long time. The other one of us had the turkey dinner, the turkey tasted dry, stuff was as hard as rock, potatoes and other items were....less than average to what I have had in a British transport cafe on the grimmest of motorways.

The restaurant I guess looked like every other White Spot, decor looked a bit dated to me but it was clean. Not a calm environment, we were near the kitchen and constantly heard the staff shouting at each other. The restaurant was generally loud anyhow.

We have arrived home and our tastes buds are starting to make a recovery from the shock they experienced at White Spot. Hopefully in a couple of days they will make a full recovery.

Great Food So-So Service
Submitted Friday, November 21, 2008 - 10:32pm [Dine in]

Our first visit here and very surprised to find such a great restaurant close to us.

Got seated straight away, came with tea almost immediately.

The ladies on the next table had problems getting their order taken and we had to get up and ask the waiting staff to help. First time we was ignored. Second time the ladies got their order taken but the guy in there didn't speak English very well so it was a struggle.

Our food came along but it kept being delivered to the wrong table. Luckily we saw the funny side of it but someone going there for a quiet, stress fee night out might have through otherwise.

Food was absolutely outstanding. Great value for money, portion size were perfect for us.

The restaurant look clean and decorated nicely. The door kept slamming close which was a little annoying, the restaurant owners should put a spring hinge on it.

We are looking forward to our next meal there.

Great Dim Sum
Submitted Monday, November 10, 2008 - 10:47pm [Dine in]

We really enjoyed our experience at Imperial Court today.

As soon as we got to our table they came with tea. No waiting round to be helped and everyone was polite and smiling, staff didn't seem pressured as I have seen in many Chinese restaurants in Vancouver.

We ordered 7 varieties of Dim Sum and I have to say it was all very good. My favorite was the Baked BBQ Pork Bun which was the best I have ever had anywhere. The turnip cake and veg roll was....average. The prices were reasonable compared to the size of the portions, if we weren't prepared to take items home we would have wasted a lot of money.

Some reviewers have said this place looks a bit run down. Maybe they have re-decorated since then as we didn't see that with this place at all. It was clean, well maintained and nothing as far as we could see looked as though it was on its last knockings.

We would most definitely come back here again.

Great Dim Sum
Submitted Thursday, October 23, 2008 - 10:58pm [Dine in]

I think this is the sister restaurant to East Vancouver site:
http://www.dinehere.ca/restaurant.asp?r=2678

This is the 2nd time we have been here and on both occasions it has been extremely busy. We had to wait outside for about 15 minutes before getting a table. However, we did expect this so it wasn't a big deal.

We were served drinks immediately on arriving at the table. We had Dim Sum and they were slow in taking our order and had to wave someone down. The food arrived quickly after that though.

All the food we had was very good quality. The portions were of the Dim Sum was medium in size compared to other restaurants, we wouldn't say they were huge. This suited me because it was too large it just puts me off eating it. We ordered Beef Ho Fun and that was very large, for us it was enough for a lunch and dinner for 2 people.

The restaurant was clean and looked nice. The washrooms were above average standard as well.

We would come back here if we were in the area without a doubt.

Really enjoyed this restaurant.

We went in and got greeted with a nice smile and waitress came to us in a couple of minutes to get our drink order.

Thought the menu had some interesting items on it, more so than the usual diner/breakfast place but we ordered something simple.

As other people have reported the servings are incredibly generous and I could only eat half my sandwich. Not only that was very large but also the side salad as well. It was enough for lunch and my dinner tonight!

The decor was really interesting, lots of nic nac's hung on the ceilings and walls, kind of like a walk down memory lane but done in a artistic way. I loved the painting with Mona Lisa with egg on her face, that was cute.

The staff were really friendly and helpful too. No complaints at all about this place.

Good Food Terrible Service
Submitted Sunday, October 19, 2008 - 4:12pm [Dine in]

The restaurant was busy and a line outside. Waited for about 5 minutes before we got a seat.

Not a good start, found it very difficult to get served a drink. We asked some of the waiting staff how we can get some drink and they told us waiting staff would be with us, after 10 minutes of waiting we had to get up and ask. Eventually got some drink. This didn't seem to be a problem for other customers who got served tea as soon as they came in.

The service was by trolley, other people were complaining that the waiting staff didn't stop at their table to offer them food. One couple had to get up and ask one of the managers if the waiting staff could stop by and actually get some food. We didn't find this problem so much but the waiting staff either couldn't or wouldn't speak English in order for an explanation of the dish. We only had 3 dishes as the waiting staff couldn't explain to us what some dishes were.

I saw that other tables were struggling to get their bill and had to get up from the table to find a waiting staff to help them.

I saw one waiting staff push another member of staff aside in anger. Also I saw about 3 waiting staff yawn. They looked tired and aggravated.

The food that we had tasted quite good.

The restaurant looked clean but the decor needed a bit of a refresh.

For 3 x Dim Sum dishes, a Ginger Ale and Tea, the cost was over $18.

Would I go here again? At a restaurant I want to feel relaxed and looked after. I felt stressed and found it difficult to get served. So the answer is NO.

Submitted Friday, October 10, 2008 - 4:35pm [Dine in]

Stopped here on the off chance for a small bite to eat.

Service was good, as soon as we walked in the door we were greeted. The waitresses were attentive throughout our time there.

The Gyoza was just average, had better, had worse, so kind of middle of the road. Ordered a bowl of hot and sour soup for about $5 and it was massive, so much so it kind of put me off just seeing the size of it. Again it was average, had better had worse.

The furniture looked a little bit run down, bit like a cheap eats transport cafe, which I suppose that sums up what it really is. Bathrooms are situated too near the bathrooms in my opinion, as soon as I walked out of the men's toilet I could see a tray of vegetables....I don't know why but that kind of spooked me out.

This branch was similar to the Robson Street one but not so rushed.

I would go there again.

They had a little shop, the duck and BBQ pork actually looked very good so we had some to go.

Submitted Thursday, October 9, 2008 - 10:24pm [Dine in]

We were just in the area and decided on this place for a quick lunch.

We were welcomed with a smile with a very jolly smile and the waitress was as jolly throughout our entire time there. Very attentive and concerned that everything was good. She was also very chatty with the other people, some who were regulars and they knew each other by name. Very warm and friendly feel about it.

I had the Eggs Benedict which was very good indeed. Usually lots of restaurants will stuff your place full of fries but got a decent serving of fried potatoes. My partner had a burger which he thought was extremely good and the fries were perfect. With 2 coffees it all came to $18, not bad at all.

What I would change:
1) the coffee was average, tasted a bit like nescafe (not good)
2) the furniture needed a little updating, when the guy behind me moved (and he moved a lot) it shuffled me about making it uncomfortable for me
3) needed a bit of a paint job

Other than that we would go in there again if we were in the area.
