Greasy spoon with class
Submitted Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 11:27pm [Dine in]

Went here for breakfast on a Sunday. There were 4 of us and we just missed the rush. We only had to wait five minutes. The service was excellent with full coffees, and just the right amount of checking on things. (Sophie the owner came by to chat a few times too)
The food was very good. the fruit salad was different then most I saw them cutting it up. I had to take half of my breakfast home.

Fresh, tasty, and friendly. with great kitchy things to look at!

This tends to be the chosen restuarant for office parties and going away functions...sadly

The food is overcooked....all tastes the same and is plated like a cafeteria. The vegetables are soaked in butter and very bland.

The price is about 15-20 dollars a plate for an average sized serving with below average quality or flavour.

The decor is old, tired and feels dirty.

I would not reccomend this restaurant ever.

Richmond's HIDDEN restaurant

Once you actually find this restaurant, it is very large and well decorated. It looks clean and formal yet homey. If the sun hasn't set, the large windows give you a nice view of the water. The waiter was outgoing with a lot of suggestions and was very accomodating to food allergies and sharing preferences.

The fish was paired with subtle and tasty sauces. Everything was fresh.

If you want a nice restuarant with good food and pleasant atmosphere. The boathouse is the place.

Affordable lunch
Submitted Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 11:05pm [Dine in]

For five to seven dollars you can eat a nutritious and filling lunch. They have a large selection of items on the menu from pho to salad rolls to subs.

I have eated here twice. the first time we tried the chicken skewers (very tender and the sauce was thick and flavourful) an interesting salad roll with mango and basil which was very fresh and flavourful. The tea and waters were always full and the price was under 7 dollars.

the second time I had the rare beef pho. The broth was oily. it came out hot but was not as fresh as other places.

This place is a good lunch choice but I do not recommend the pho

Great lunch place
Submitted Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 2:13pm [Dine in]

Four co-workers and myself went here for lunch on a friday in November 2008.

We started with a flatbread similar to Naan served with a warm mildly spicy thin curry sauce. The bread was flaky yet soft with a warm buttery flavour.

I had the vegetarian curry with coconut milk and rice. The price was very reasonable. It was 6.95 for a very tasty full meal. It was presented beautifully. It was not too rich. the vegetables were crisp and flavourful, the sauce was rich, mildly spiced and comforting and the rice was sticky and nutty.

In this area with overpriced restaurant lunches, Banana Leaf is a gem.

Home cooking at a Restaurant
Submitted Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 2:06pm [Dine in]

I have been to Cimona's five times in the last three months. It is a cozy cafe setting with a warm yet simple feel. It is a great pace to grab a simple bite to eat when you don't feel like cooking and don't want to get dressed up or spend more than $10 on a meal.

They have very good soups. I have tried their butternut squash soup, pea soup, tomato soup and chicken soup. All of them have tasted very good.

They have everything from deep fried fish sandwiches, to creamy pastas, to veggie burgers and falafel wraps.

The falafel wrap with a side of soup is about $7.00 and very tasty, filling and healthy. All of their burgers, sandwiches and wraps are under $10.00 with a side order and it is tastier, more filling and healthier than fast food.

I will definitely be going here for an inexpensive tasty dinner again.

I go to this restaurant about once a month if I want westernized sushi that is reasonably priced, not greasy and served in a nice portion.

The vegetable soup is very large and only a few dollars. The sushi comes in a large variety including things like spinach! They have a very large variety of options for a little bit of money.

The service is always very slow here so make sure you go with someone who is interesting to talk to or when you have a lot of time for dinner or lunch.

Impressed with quality
Submitted Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 1:51pm [Dine in]

This restaurant has only been open a few weeks. We ordered take-out on a Friday night (January 3/2009)

Three people ordered the special for 8.99 that included terriyaki chicken or beef, miso soup, 3 piece california roll 1 salmon and 1 tuna sushi and a salad.

The california roll was Very large! the three pieces were like 6 pieces. The sushi was extremely fresh. The chicken was crispy and the miso soup was adequate.

The fourth person had three cones (Veggie, spicy tuna and salmon) as well as edamame. The Edamame was okay, simple, steamed with a small amount of salt. The veggie cone was very flavourful and included peppers which i've never seen in sushi. The spicy tuna was fresh and flavourful and the salmon was very fresh as well. The price for this was about 13.00.

The ambiance was quite cute when you walk in it is small with about 10 tables, you are greeted in japanese, they have very nice place settings and chalkboards with the daily specials.

You get 10% off for their grand opening.

I would definitely try this place again for their freshness and quality.

Good place
Submitted Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 1:37pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend and I visited this food court restaurant on Friday January 10 at 130pm.

There was a long line up with people waiting for their orders (about a 20 minute wait per order)

I ordered a small 1/2 moshi terriyaki chicken, 1/2 spicy hanero sausage pizza. It came with a side of shredded seaweed, pizza spice and hot pepper sauce.

The flavour of the terriyaki was a little too sweet for my liking but it was an interesting combination. The crust was nicely cooked, there was an adequate amount of cheese and toppings.

The price was a little high since other places in the food court sell their items for a couple dollars less and you get more.
I would try this place again because it was a fine place for pizza.

terrible service
Submitted Sunday, July 6, 2008 - 11:48am [Dine in]

terrible service! only three out of 4 dishes ever arrived.

1. the food that was served was served cold and overcooked (salmon dish) there were small sampler items served as the chef specialty which were also cold and flavourless with a poor tesxture to the meat.

2. service was very slow and mistakes were put onto the client rather than the servers. entrees came out 20 minutes apart so one person was finished eating dinner by the time the next person got their food. with one person never recieving their order. the manager took no blame or offered any type of solution for the poor service.

3. the food was well priced but it was not very tasty, not well-cooked (over cooked) and arrived at the wrong time at the wrong temperature (cold)

4. the place looks very nice inside. the tables and water glasses are very small and you are squished if there are 4 people at the table.
