This Indian/Greek/Italian/North American place doesn't know what it wants to be. As the previous poster said, nothing is very good on the menu... although a few of the curries/sizzlers aren't bad. Make sure the calamari is FRESH!
Seems like there's one woman who owns and usually serves us here, and you get the vibe that she is watching over everything at all times. There's also a slick, hairless waiter who tries waaay too hard. Other than that, I've never seen another server working more than once there... it's got to be a high turnover for a reason.
The patio can be decent in the summer, though, and occasionally there is good live music.
Mmmmm I love going here... at least twice a month. No Korean restaurant in Vancouver that I've been to matches the authentic Korean vibe of this place. There's Korean pop music blasting, it's almost exlusively full of Koreans, it's dimly lit and always packed. They're usually really busy so sometimes service is a bit slow but they work hard. And the food is awesome!!! Try their Haemul Pajeon (seafood pajeon), Kimchi Chigae (kimchi stew) and Kalbi Tang (beef soup). They're open late so it's a good place for late eating/drinking.
I gotta say, I love this place. For me, the atmosphere/vibe and killer views make it great. Food isn't always fabulous but often very good. Servers are usually very good. I had the mussels on the appy menu most recently and they were pretty good. My mom had the Wok veggie stirfry, not outstanding but decent. But to be honest we barely cared, we were overlooking the harbour and drinking wine, and it was just a snack anyway. I agree with the previous poster that it's better here for lunch maybe, or for a summer afternoon drink.
I'm a big fan of Jang Mo Jib mainly because of the food. Korean's my favourite cuisine and these guys nailed it. I have a strange suspicion the other review wasn't from an actual guest. Sounds really fishy to me and just not possible there. The servers I've had there have been super nice. It can be a bit slow if they're busy, and the vibe could be hipper but the food is awesome and the employess are great.
Went there for the first time a few weeks ago and was very impressed with the menu.... took me foreeever to choose because there were just so many things I've never heard of before. Service was good. Really liked the vibe in there, liked the darkness & candles & sexy pics.
I guess my expectations were too high when I walked into this place. I had heard a lot of good things and was really impressed with the look and feel of the place. Our server did not want to be there and forgot my drink order twice. The calamari appy was horrible, worst I've ever had. Extremely tough and totally tasteless. Also had the spinach dip, served barely warm with stale chips and a decent salad. Might give it another chance given the excellent vibe in there though.
This place was a massive disappointment. The service is horrid! We had at least 5 different servers, and they couldn't answer any of my questions about some of the food. It bills itself as a Korean-Japanese restaurant, but there was not much Korean about the Korean dishes I ordered. I had the kimchi-pork stew (one of my favorite dishes in Korea) but the broth was sweet as was the pork; it was horrible. It seemed like the manager and all of the servers are Chinese, which makes this place feel even more like just a mish-mash of Asian food, with none of the dishes being authentic at all.
I eat here quite regularly and have always had a great meal. Sometimes the service isn't outstanding but it's that's due to the fact that there's often only one server on. The servers are all very nice and happy to serve you. Huge portions too. I like the genuine diner feel in there, and in the summer the patio is awesome. Never tried a burger there though; I highly recommend and of the sandwiches, esp. the BLTC and the hot tukey.
