Do Not Eat Here!
Submitted Monday, January 28, 2013 - 3:49pm [Dine in]

This rates as one of the worst dining experiences we've ever experienced. (Service was fine, but the food, not so good) We had baby back ribs, they were so dry and over-sauced, not fall off the bone as we had expected. The burnt ends were horrible. Chunks of fat covered in the same sickly sweet bbq sauce ... These were inedible. When our server asked how our meals were, she saw that the pile of burnt ends were basically untouched. We told her that they were unacceptable, and when she told the manager, his reply was "too bad". Well, too bad, because we won't be back.

Won't go back
Submitted Tuesday, July 7, 2009 - 9:58am [Dine in]

Ate at The Point with friends last weekend. Only 6 others in the restaurant, so obviously not busy at 7:30 Sat. night, which isn't a good sign. We shared an mixed appie platter that was supposedly "big enough for 4" - came with 2 mini crab cakes, 4 prawns (frozen, not fresh), a tiny salad, and a few slices of tuna (that was weirdly mushy). Our mains of steaks were all ordered rare to medium rare. All arrived well done. They were 6 oz. filets that had been cut in half into 2 thin pieces. Very odd. The quality of the food was not worth the high prices charged. Our server was nice enough, but not very attentive, considering she only had 2 other tables to look after. We will not go back to this restaurant, as there are many other restaurants in Steveston that are better in all ways.

Gudrun Tasting Room3500 Moncton Street, #150, Richmond
Twice Disappointed
Submitted Saturday, April 4, 2009 - 10:12am [Dine in]

Tried Gudrun when it first opened, and was definitley not impressed. Hoped that it was just opening jitters, so went again last week with a group of friends to see if had improved, as we like to support the Steveston merchants. Nope - still overpriced, limited menu, etc. Steveston is not Gastown - SALT works because of the location and clientele, the great varieties of wine by the glass, and superior charcuterie and imported cheeses. It is a true tasting bar. Gudrun is in the wrong place, wrong price category. Will not go back again. Comments from our group included - "too expensive for what it is", "not enough for dinner, to pricy for a taste", "I'd rather go to Papi's tasting bar - better ambiance, better food". Friends won't return, either.

Disappointing In Every Way
Submitted Saturday, April 4, 2009 - 10:01am [Dine in]

Have been to Brown's 3 times now - always hoping that it will have improved from the last visit ... The first time, the server forgot an entre - 3 of us ate, while one watched and waited. After asking our server at least 4 times, his entre finally came, after the rest of us had finished our meals. The second time, I went with 3 other ladies on a Monday night - the pizzas were on special. Two of us ordered the pizzas, the others, salads. The salads came, no pizzas ... after about 15 minutes we were told that the pizza dough was still frozen, and that it would take 30 minutes more to get our order! AHHH! The last time, (and it will be the last ...), there was a table of rather rowdy, noisy guys who had obviously had a little too much to drink - when we commented that we wanted to move tables, the manager wanted to know why. When we pointed out that we didn't want to sit and listen to the swearing and noise, he told us that maybe this wasn't the place for us - as it served a younger crowd. We are in our early 40's, and eat at Milestones, Earl's, Cactus Club, etc. and have never encountered this type of attitude!

A Change from the Keg!
Submitted Tuesday, February 10, 2009 - 5:04pm [Dine in]

We finally have a steak restaurant other than the Keg in Richmond! Our steaks were cooked to perfection! They were so big, that we ended up taking some home. Our only complaint was our annoying server. He spoke to us as if we had never dined out before - explaining everything in far too much detail. Other than that, everything was great - and we will definitely go back again!

Just so-so ...
Submitted Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 3:47pm [Dine in]

We waited for 40 minutes to be seated after being told -"Only a short wait - maybe 10-15 minutes". They seemed very unorganized and scattered. We were finally seated, but again sat for 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. The floor under our table was sticky with rice - really needed a good wipe. Took forever to get our food - finally my sushi arrived, but my husband's gyoza took another 15 minutes! Our tempura prawns and vegetables finally arrived, and were just luke-warm and the tempura batter was rather soggy. They completely forgot about our chicken teriyaki ... ! From start to finish the whole experience was like a comedy act - no one seemed to be on the ball. Won't be back.

Horrible!
Submitted Saturday, December 13, 2008 - 12:27pm [Dine in]

This place is awful. The decor is from the 70's, and the food is - well - to be polite - just awful. The chicken souvlaki was so dried out that it was inedible - and the greek salad with its little bit of grated feta on the top was mushy and unappetizing. The others at our table had similar experiences - each of us eating only a bite of our meals. When our server inquired "How is everything" - we pointed at our plates and said "Not so good". We never saw him again until he brought us our checks. It was an expensive meat considering we didn't eat anything. When the server brought back the credit cards to be signed, he asked if we wanted our meals wrapped to take home. Our reply - "NO - just put them where they belong - in the garbage ..."

Not very good
Submitted Saturday, December 13, 2008 - 12:21pm [Dine in]

We were not impressed with our dinners at Shady Island. The service was sooooo slow - it took forever to get our drink orders - and they were just beers. The server forgot to bring our appies - and by the time she remembered our main course had arrived. We sent the appies back - but they still appeared on our check. The fish and chips were very expensive, and not worth it for the soggy batter and luke warm fries. The restaurant was only about a quarter full - and it felt old, damp and dingy. Not a place I'll return to.

Outstanding!

This hidden treasure in our neighbourhood of Steveston Village is an absolute gem. Wonderful pasteries that are to die for! We stop by and pick up a few treats for ourselves, or often order a dozen or so for a dinner party. At only $2.50 each - they are a steal - you would pay at least $5.00 for similar (and not nearly as good) at Sweet Obsession in Van. I almost hate to write this review - I don't want my friends to know where I get my delicious desserts, otherwise we'll all be serving them!

Good Greek!
Submitted Saturday, December 13, 2008 - 12:08pm [Dine in]

Being Steveston residents, we tend to eat at Kisamos at least once a month. The food is delicious and very well priced. The roast lamb, at $12.99 is a true bargain, and enough to share with a friend. The fried calamari is crispy and tender, and the salad is big enough for 4. The service is good - the servers have been there for a long time, and know alot of the regulars - so there's lots of kidding and joking around. It's a great neighbourhood spot for good Greek food.

Not So Good
Submitted Saturday, December 13, 2008 - 12:01pm [Dine in]

We waited 30 minutes to be seated, however, since we had been many times before, we knew to expect this. The wait was not worth it! Our party of 4 all ordered eggs benny - and each of us had the same complaint. The bennies were absolutely tastless. The hollendaise sauce was bland - like it had come out of a package. The eggs were bland, and even lots of salt and pepper didn't help. The english muffins tasted like wet cardboard. I don't know what has happened at Crave, but the food has sure gone downhill. Won't be back.

Not impressed!
Submitted Monday, December 8, 2008 - 6:52pm [Dine in]

We were definitely not impressed with our dining experience at Papi's. Service was so-so, and the food was really not very good at all. I wonder if the ingredients used came from cans - as everything tasted salty and truly not the fresh, home-made taste I have come to expect from an exceptional Italian restaurant. I don't know how this restaurant can charge downtown prices, when the quality and ambiance are certainly not worth the prices they charge. The decor is pretty basic - reminds us of a Holiday Inn dining room - very bland and boring. (Surprised that they didn't hire a decorator for the redo after the fire.) We will not go back to Papi's - will take a taxi downtown to sample some of Vancouver's better restaurants.

Excellent!
Submitted Monday, December 8, 2008 - 6:41pm [Dine in]

Tapenade is our favourite Steveston restaurant. Whether we go mid-week for a more casual evening, or on a Sat. night, the food, service and ambiance are wonderful. The new winter menu is delicious, have tried the crab caesar salad (yum!), the pate (the best I've ever had) the short ribs, and the osso buco - sooo good! Great wine list - and not gouging customers with the prices. The patio is great in the summer, and the interior is warm and welcoming anytime. Vince has earned his spot as the best restaurant in Richmond!

Great!
Submitted Sunday, December 7, 2008 - 7:46pm [Dine in]

Have been many times, and each and every time the food, service and views improve! Great burgers, fish and chips, and the new seafood fresh sheet make for delicious dining choices. Good wine list, and mixed drinks are fine! The owner/manager, Jim, makes us feel very welcome. Desserts are yummy - especially the lemon square! This is our favourite casual Steveston restaurant. We love sitting outside in the summer, and like the warm fireplace in the winter!
